2013 Dodge Ram Pickup - Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit

  • Diode Kit
  • Splices into Vehicle Wiring
  • Universal
  • Roadmaster
  • Tail Light Mount

Diode Kit allows you to use your Dodge Ram Pickup's tail lights and wiring system while preventing feedback from your RV. 4-Pole flat loop included to connect RV to towed car.

Features:

  • Connects your RV's tail, brake and turn signal lights to your towed car's lighting system
  • Works with 2-wire and 3-wire lighting systems
    • 2-Wire systems (aka combined) have the stop and turn signal sent along the same wire
    • 3-Wire systems (aka separated) have the stop and turn signals sent along different wires (typically indicated by amber turn signals)
  • Prevents electrical feedback and the damage it can cause to your vehicle's electrical components
  • Kit includes:
    • (4) Hy-Power diodes
    • Molded 4-wire electrical cords - 30' long
    • Power cord - 6' long
    • 4-Way flat wire connectors for both the vehicle and RV
      • If RV has a 3-wire system (and is not already wired for a trailer connector) a converter is required (RM-732 - sold separately)
    • Ring terminal
    • Plastic loom - 3' long

Specs:

  • Max amperage: 85 amps
  • Max voltage: 24 volts

Note: For applications that have separate lighting, this kit will cause your brake lights to function as both brake and turn lights. Wiring converter kit (154-792-118158) can be purchased instead if you want to retain separate turn and brake signals.

Installation instructions were great, no issues or questions. I ran the wire thru the frame, and used split wire loom and tape to protect wiring when outside the tube frame.

by:

Good system, worked fine but you have to be ok at wiring and understand the process. I found another wiring kit (on Etrailer) that is all pre-wired with a wire harness with connectors. Plug and play. No cutting or wiring connectors. Overall this kit works well!

by:
2019 Chevrolet Blazer

Product is very well built and is hidden within the bumper/grille. Installation wasn't too difficult, reinstallation of front bumper requires 2 people.
Pleased with end results.

by:

E Trailer did a great job installing the wiring kit. I can't see where they did anything inside the car and the lights work perfectly.

Jeep Wrangler

I have purchased many items from etrailer and have never been disappointed, with the products being top shelf, delivered on time, and the customer service is top shelf as well. After I get it installed I will send some pictures, to show the quality of the Product . Blue OX backing plate for a Jeep Wrangler. Thanks etrailer for your fast service and free shipping!

2014 Jeep Cherokee

I bought all of my products for flat towing my 2014 Jeep Cherokee for etrailer and I couldn’t be happier. The service was exceptional, the pricing was right, and when I did have a problem, they were right there to take care of it. When I need more goodies for the RV, I will be back!!!!

by:

I used the waiting kit on a 2018 Chevy Silverado; my truck has two tail lights and therefore needed an extra set of diodes which were not included with the initial wiring kit. Therefore I has to order an extra diode in order for my turn and brake lights to work properly.

Comments
This kit will work if your vehicle has combined lights - which means the turn and tail lights use the same bulb - or on separate light systems - where the turn and tail lights use separate bulbs. If used on a separate light system and 4 diodes are used then the stop light will work as both the stope and turn signal. Adding two diodes part # RM-792
Roadmaster Hy-Power Diodes (Qty 2)
$24.06
will allow you to use the turn signals on separate light systems.

Only towed 2000 miles so far, then rear ended and pushed into front vehicle. Hope body shop left brackets in place!!!

Install was easy. thank you

by:

It works great. I use my CRV to be my tow vehicle for my RV and use it to tow my kayak trailer. This kit made the wiring job easy for both and after 1 year it’s been perfect

Comments
Perfect, always works when I need it which is often

Worked great. Not hard to install. Wish the kit came with a fuse disconnect switch.

After a year I would purchase again. Works as stated, and have had no problems.

2019 Jeep Wrangler

Great product and thanks to etrailer.com for the excellent videos detailing how to install the Demco Stay-In-Play Duo braking system. As a result of watching all of the available videos, I learned that there where a couple of different ways to install the system in our Jeep Wranglers. The first installation I did was in our 2019 Wrangler and that was super easy following the one video on your website. The second installation of the system was not as easy because our 2021 Wrangler has a manual transmission and required having to drill a hole in the firewall/floor board to run the wiring and vacuum tube from the passenger compartment to the engine area. If etrailer.com ever has an installation on a Jeep Wrangler with a manual transmission to perform, hopefully they will video tape that installation to guide customers with Jeeps with manual transmissions. I think etrailer.com's idea of mounting the control box on the fuse box is by far the cleanest and easiest way to install the Demco braking system.
I also followed etrailer.com's videos for installing the brake light system and the base plate on both our Wranglers and could not be happier with them. Thanks etrailer for all you offer.

I have ordered from etrailer for years and why I come back is I know from experience the type of service they provide!

For the installation the instructions were good, but watching some videos made it much easier to take apart a brand new car. All went well. Installed on a 2020 Chevy Equinox 2.0

2001 Jeep Cherokee

This is the third time I have order base plates and electrical hook ups from etrailer and love this company. We have a 1979 MCI Bus conversion and it is difficult at time finding things for towing etc for it because of age. Not with etrailer, they have it all. We have towed a 96 S-19 chevy, a 98 Jeep was next and this year we got a 2001 Jeep Cherokee which we got the electrical kit for from etrailer.com and the base plates are still on the way. Everything fits nicely and if you are unsure of how it all goes together just watch their video''s on the etrailer website which are very informational.
Thank You etrailer.com for being there when we need you. See you all down the road....

by:

This was a fairly easy kit to install. The video was quite helpful. The hardest part was crawling around on the ground to run the wire from the from to the back. If you have access to a life it would make it a LOT simpler.

2006 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Looks easy to do, but have not had time to install this yet! Packaged well and all the parts are there. Video tutorial was exceptional descriptive and should help this install go flawlessly. Price was good and delivery was quick as stated when ordering.

by:

The RM-154 wiring kit was a snap to install. The etrailer instructional videos were all I needed. I didn't even open the installation instructions that came with the kit. I am always impressed with etrailer. The employees are very knowledgeable and eager to help. I have used etrailer for several RV and trailer projects over the past few years and they have been a pleasure to do business with. They are the best.

by:

Easy to install, following instructions and taking appropriate time. It is used often and functions very well. All lighting works properly when vehicle is in tow behind motorhome.

by:

worked out pretty good, doesn't allow for different blinker brake and running, 3 wires, but made it work for the most part. definitely universal.

by:

E Trailer is an awesome place to do business with on items required to tow your vehicles behind a RV. My order was shipped immediately and very well packaged. I absolutely love the online instructions which simplify the installs. A+++++

  • Troubleshooting Installation of Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154
The Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154 that you referenced should not have a jumper wire between the diodes in the turn signal circuit. This jumper wire runs between the diodes for the tail and/or brake light diodes depending on the nature of the wiring in your motor home. I suggest having your installer complete the installation exactly as described by the manufacturer and as shown on the linked page for this item. I also included a video showing this kit used on...

  • Installation Instructions for Installing a Diode Kit for Tow Bar Wiring
Sounds like you are trying to use a diode kit like the Roadmaster Diode kit part # RM-154 to install tow bar wiring on a vehicle with separate function taillights. Running the wiring kit to the front turn signal of the tow vehicle wouldn't work because it would only cause the front blinkers to illuminate. This would be pointless since it's the back lights you want to illuminate. The diodes of this kit prevent backfeeding, so the front lights would illuminate but not the back. To see how...

The colors of the wires aren't what you need to pay attention to. You need to test the wires for voltage when the brake lights are on, and then when the taillights are on.
