The Apollo's convenient, self-centering arms help to make hookup a snap. Older and more economical tow bars have rigid arms that are essentially locked in place so you have to drive your towed vehicle into the exact position necessary for hookup. But with the Apollo, you can connect from the approximate towing position quickly and easily. Once you have connected the tow bar to your vehicle's base plates, simply drive your RV forward until the tow bar arms fully extend and lock in place. Before hitting the road, be sure to check that the arms are properly latched to avoid damage to your towing setup.
The Apollo's arms are also longer than the arms on the average tow bar. As a result, they provide an improved turning radius, making it easy to maneuver around obstacles and execute sharp turns.
Being unable to unhook your car because of a bind in the tow bar is really frustrating. And the tight spots and uneven terrain at some campsites can put your tow bar into a bind, even if you're careful.
Fortunately, Blue Ox has defeated the age-old problem of binding by creating a tow bar that is just as easy to release as it is to hook up. Simply press down the handles on the tow bar arms until the internal latch disengages. By releasing some of the static pressure from the tow bar, you can move the arms just enough to make disconnecting your car a snap, even if it's not perfectly lined up with your RV.
The Blue Ox base plates on your vehicle are equipped with two tabs each that connect to the brackets on the ends of these tow bar arms. The triple-lug design of the Apollo tow bar creates a tight, stable connection by surrounding both base plate lugs. The result is a sturdy, reinforced connection that is strong and rigid for a safe, dependable towing experience.
Hooking up the Apollo to your base plates is as simple as it is secure. Just line up the triple-lug end of the tow bar arm with the base plate so that the center lug is positioned between the two tabs of the base plate. Then insert the 1/2" keeper pin through all of the lugs and secure it with the included quick pin.
The vinyl-coated safety cables, which have a robust 15,000-lb weight rating, provide added protection should the tow bar ever disconnect during towing. Steel hooks with spring-loaded latches connect each cable to your towed vehicle's base plates and to your motorhome's trailer hitch.
The Apollo can be easily stored on your RV when it's not in use. Once the arms are disconnected from the base plate, just fold them together so they are side by side. Then swing the arms toward your RV, sliding the integrated pin into the bracket located on the shank of the tow bar to secure it in place. Finally, push the arms down so they are parallel with your RV's bumper.
Flat towing your vehicle is much more convenient than using a trailer or a tow dolly. These other options take up much more storage space, leaving you less room both at home and at the campsite. In addition, securing your vehicle to a trailer or tow dolly can be a hassle and more time consuming than hooking up with a tow bar.
There are 5 basic components needed when flat towing a vehicle: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.
The tow bar links your towed car to your motorhome. It attaches to the custom-fit base plates that install on the frame of your towed car. Safety cables ensure that your towed car does not separate from your motorhome in the event that your tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring allows your towed vehicle's signal lights to sync up with your motorhome's tail lights, which is required by law in most states. Finally, the supplemental braking system - also required in most states - brakes your towed car when the brakes in your motorhome are activated, preventing wear on the motorhome and decreasing braking distance for your entire setup.

Hello neighbors, Steven here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at this Blue Ox Apollo non-binding tow bar, and it's a motor home mount, two inch by two inch hitch. Now folks, this tow bar will let you tow your full size pickup truck, SUV car, safely and securely behind your motor home, and it will also allow you to tow your car behind possibly a heavy duty truck, dump truck, those kind of things. It simply slides into the trailer hitch receiver on the RV with the two inch hitch end. There's no ball mount necessary. It just slides in and then the pin and clip go right in.
It is offer a nice low profile handle and everything and provides a nice seamless look whenever it is installed. Now it can swivel and everything, so it can tilt up. Whenever you store it you can put these legs together and close 'em. I'll show you that after a little bit. It can fold down, it can pivot left or right whenever it needs to to make the turns and everything.
So very nice design. The swivel and everything makes it super simple. It also has what's called a self aligned design. You simply hook it up to the base plates on the towed vehicle in, and then you can mount it in there just by twisting things and putting it in there nice and easy. Now the arms do extend into a rigid tow ready position like I've got 'em here and they'll automatically center themselves and lock into place.
So let me show you that real quick. I'm gonna loosen it with this bar first. Push it back in and open it. Alright, you heard a lockout, you see a lockout. So they're both locked into place.
Like I said, you can take both of those, loosen 'em up, and then push the arms back in as well. So I'm gonna go ahead and put the arms in. You also get two safety chain cables. They're very, very heavy duty. They're not gonna fall on you or go anywhere. I'll put them over here to the side so I can spin this around. Alright, bear with me folks. A lot of stuff to work with. So if this was mounted in the RV hitch, then basically this would be facing towards the tow vehicle. Now you've got your mounts here that are gonna match up with your base plates. This will also work with and can adapt with the etrailer base plates, the Roadmaster, and even the Demco ones. I'll pop them numbers on the screen as well for you. Other than those, it does fit and work with all Blue Ox base plates that are out there. It is rated at 12,500 pounds and those safety cables as well, are rated for that as well. Now it's a very simple, easy storage on the back of the RV. Everything folds up and in. And keep in mind there's a lot of pressure on these guys. And then whenever you want to fold 'em up, you can even go further. And this would pretty much be on the back of the RV, possibly something like this. So that kind of gives you an idea. And keep in mind, this thing is 55 pounds folks, and these arms just kind of pivot out. Again, it's a lot easier to do whenever it's inside of an RV or hooked up to a car. But again, nice simple tow bar, extended, the length from the hitch pin hole all the way out is 50 and three quarters inches and retracted like it is right now, everything retracted. It's 41 and three quarters of an inch long. Now there is a couple options here you can do as far as the hitch pin hole and everything, you can gain an additional two inches of length if you use the farthest hitch pin hole on the RV, there's usually two holes in there. Use the farthest one away and that'll give you another two inches. Has a nice three year warranty. And like I said, folks, it is made here in the USA. Again, you're getting the heavy duty safety cables. All the latches and everything are spring loaded. Very nice, simple design. Tried to zoom in there so you can see it a little better. And I'll try to spin this around a little bit since we're closer on the camera angle just to kind of show you. So again, this guy can pivot up and down as needed. And keep in mind, this is a solid shank. Everything's been black powder coated. It's not gonna rust or corrode on you or anything like that. There's those spring loaded arms. So Blue Ox does a real nice job, not just all their finishes and everything, but how they make everything. You've got these rubber boots and everything that cover everything and all your pins and clips and everything. Pretty much every piece on this tow bar is replaceable if you ever need. One thing to remember, never back up whenever you're flat towing. That's a big no-no. So you never wanna back up whenever you're attached. Read your owner manual and those kind of things. Watch our videos on how we install these onto the motor homes. And if you need base plates, we sell those here as well. Well, folks, I think that's gonna wrap it up for our look at this Blue Ox Apollo non-binding tow bar. I'm Steven. Thank you so much for your time. Thanks for watching. I hope the information has been helpful and possibly educational. Have it out there and stay safe.

Blue Ox products are best in class. Went with the Apollo to tow my F250, but the LOA between coach, dinghy and Blue Ox keeps me out of some states, so I have been towing a Grand Cherokee with no problems at all. Wouldn't consider any other tow bar.
Again Etrailer comes through with great customer service! Great place and people to deal with!
