Note: When attached to Roadmaster Classic base plates, the crossbar on this tow bar will remain permanently attached to your towed car. If you want to be able to remove the crossbar, you'll need to use either XL or EZ Series base plates, and you will need to purchase Roadmaster's Quick-Disconnect kit (RM-201 - sold separately).

Flat towing can be a much more convenient way to take your car RVing with you than using a trailer or a tow dolly. It'll save you storage space both at home and at the campsite, and it takes less time and hassle to hook up.
To flat tow your vehicle, there are 5 basic components you're going to need: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a flat tow braking system.
For the RV | Between the RV and Towed Car | For the Towed Car |
---|---|---|
Hitch | Tow bar | Base plate |
Wiring plug | Safety cables | Braking system |
Wiring adapter cord | Wiring kit/diodes |
The custom-fit base plate installs on the frame of your toad so you can connect the car to your RV with a tow bar. Hook up safety cables between the vehicles to ensure that the toad does not separate from the motorhome if the tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring syncs your vehicle's signal lights with your motorhome's tail lights, as required by law in most states. Finally, the flat tow braking system - also required in most states - activates the brakes in the toad when you hit the brakes in the RV, making for smoother, safer braking, and preventing wear on your motorhome.

Simple and affordable: without all the bells and whistles, this tow bar is perfect for the occasional traveler. Super-durable with a reinforcing crossbar and arms that are sealed against the elements. Folds down for storage.Tow bar is great. Installation was difficult due to Tracker frame. I got stuck doing install and needed a mechanic friend to help finish the job and even he had trouble with getting nut onto bolt inside the frame tube. Product & company are excellent. Just difficult due to Tracker frame.
I purchased both the parts of the tow system. I just purchase a Jeep Grand Cherokee (99) to pull behind our motorhome for week end trips. We just returned from the first week-end with access to a vehicle to move around the area, and short trips to town. It adds a wonderful dimension to the experience. This system allowed us to pull this vehicle with our motorhome, and I can say it pulled as if there was nothing behind me. It was quick to hook up, and easy to un-hook. My labor time to install was about 2 1/2 Hours, and went smoothly. This is a wonderful product, and works as desired. I have attached photos of the After installation, and the camp-site we stayed at, (proving we made it)
I've used this tow bar for my little Kia Rio5 Toad behind my 32' Itasca Class A motorhome. Reliable, easy to attach and remove, good construction. Had good experience recent trip from Seattle to Death Valley (7 percent grade in places!) and southern Arizona, over 4,000 miles round trip. It passed the acid test: driving I-5 south in Oregon, traffic suddenly came to a screeching halt ahead of us. We stopped with inches to spare from the car ahead of us. The TOAD stayed right behind, no jack knifing, etc. Good product.

Great. Use it for towing all the time. Have a tent trailer and a small flat bed for dump runs and what not. Tip: make sure you pay attention to how the light wiring is supposed to run past the bar. Get some good large zip ties.
Quick "free" ship (24 hours), easy install (once substrate work on vehicle completed, only takes 10 minutes), quality appears excellent.
Still need "hitch up" restraint, safety cables and wiring harness.
Less than 5 miles on the tow-bar at this point, having completed only the "proof of concept" journey around the neighborhood. Simple bar, simple instructions. Keep the toad/dinghy brackets loose until the cross-bar is mounted and snugged - THEN tighten the toad mount brackets.
Ordered base plate/tow bar for s10 blazer. Good quality parts all necessary hardware is included instructions were easy to follow installed on my truck in about 2 hours. Ordering and shipping was fast and followed up by email from etrailer.
Fairly easy to install base plate. Left all bolts / nuts loose, slid tow bar in to align while tightening up. Ready for motorhome.
I HAD A FOLD AWAY SOLD IT.. I HAVE TWO LOCKS TO GO WHERE THE PINS ARE..I WILL PUT THE PINS WHERE IT WILL HOLD IT UP.. THIS WILL STAY ON MY CAR.. I WILL GET A LOT OF USE OUT OF THIS..
Was disappointed that the cross bar isn't easily removable from the base plate. This totally negates the ability to use the twist and lock feature of the base plate to get a clean look on the front of the car when not towing. I will have to unbolt the cross bar every time in order to not have this ugly mess on the front of my toad! I wasn't made aware of this when ordering. Other than that, it tows and functions well.
AS described and functioned as intended.
I already have a "StowMaster" tow bar for my 1999 Chevy Tracker, but found that it interfered with my 4X4's ability to approach and climb steep slopes; It also weighed over 60 pounds, reducing my carrying capacity and producing a harsh ride.
The "Tracker" tow bar weighs less than half as much and increases my approach angle while improving the ride.
etrailer described the "Tracker"bar perfectly, suggested the appropriate quick disconnect kit, offered it for less than anyone else and shipped it quickly!
Whatever my future automotive needs I WILL go to them first (and this comes from a retired professional career mechanic/shop foreman).

Okay! Its been a year now totalin around 7000 miles, covering 6 western states, on everything from freeways to dirt desert tracks and everything in between. I wouldnt change a single word of my original review. To add: there are no signs of wear or need for repair. Even the paint is still perfect. The most satisfying purchase of the year.Add another star!
1) The unit arrived very quickly.
2) Instructions were not clear as to whether or not the spreader bar was required with the Roadmaster base plate I had previously purchased for the 2003 Explorer. There is no obvious to way for the pieces to attach without extensive drilling. This base plate is the style that allows us to remove the front pieces. But it dosen't seem to be compatible with the Roadmaster tow bar I bought. Clearly the tow bar attaches easily to the base plate but I was concerned about what additional stresses would be on the car frame ( if any ) without the spreader.
3) The clearance at the attachment points seemed a bit large and I expect chatter, but no real problem. My guess is that these points have extra clearance to allow for some twisting as the tow vehicle tilts one way while the towed vehicle tilts another.
4) All in all I expect the unit to work well but this review ( as most are ) was requested immediately. So at this time I have no over the road experiences to evaluate.

During the year since I purchased this tow bar we have towed the explorer from the Canadian border in the Rockies to the Mexican border in the southwest. Hundreds of those miles are over unpacked roads in the mountains. We have had ZERO problems. And would certainly recommend the product.
I purchased both the "Tracker" tow bar and the base plate kit, and had the base plate installed by my local mechanic. I was able to install the tow bar attachment plate to the base myself, using a 1/2" drive torque wrench. We've made several trips, some as long as 1200 miles, through mountains and flatlands, on interstates as well as US highways, State roads, and county roads, and have never had a problem with performance. We are very satisfied.

Still working as designed, a year later. Im satisfied!
Works good after one year..i use bungee cord to hold bar up vertically on my kia car, then try yo line up to motorhome hitch ball. Takes some practice when you are alone, but the price and quality is good.

Still working great, put on kia car yesterday to hookup and head north.
I purchased the tow bar and base plate so we could flat tow our 2017 Ford focus. I was able to install the base plate myself in about 3 days only because I took my time.
Hooking up to our Motorhome is easy and we don't have any problems with the car going down the road.
When we get another vehicle I will get another Roadmaster Base Plate.
This is a very good tow bar, and is the thirdroadmaster bar I have owned. My previous bars
were roadmaster falcon 2 bars. The tracker bar in a pain in the butt to hook up.
Save your sanity and buy a falcon 2, a breeze to hook up.
The Roadmaster Tracker Tow Bar mounts on the Roadmaster Plates very easily and really looks nice on my 2017 Jeep Cherokee limited.
Excellent fitting and strong tow bar that is insures safe and towing behind my RV.

Excellent
Got the hitch and additional parts to connect to the base plate I had already purchased from etrailer. The installation took a little longer than I expected, but regardless, all of the parts were there and it fit perfectly!
Great products - heavy duty - quick shipping - all of the parts were there!
Thanks for making my purchase a great one.
etrailer rocks. Very helpful helping me order what I thought I wanted. Tracker to bar and mounting acc. are very heavy duty and fit well. Thank you etrailer and Towmaster.
Excellent. This is my second one. Use it for driveaway and put alot of miles on the first one. Lasted for 3 1/2 yrs and countless miles.
The package was delivered fine and great timing. Missing four bolts but everything else was there. How in the world would four bolts be missing in something like this. That’s kind of ridiculous. Now I had to buy my own bolts so how does a person get credited for something so frivolous that should have not ever been forgotten .

Let me get you put into the right hands. I have sent your information over to our customer service department for them to get in touch with you about the missing bolts.
Cross Bar measurement was off ("NO" accident/damage to vehicle) it works great, not a problem using over the past year. They made OUTSTANDING effort to get it right, so We were able to take Tow Vehicle on the Trip.
THANK YOU etrailer
Haven't actually used it yet, but will for around 2 weeks in about 10 days. Could be a little awkward getting it lined up on the ball maybe. We'll have to wait & see. Seems strong enough though. It's heavy. Although it doesn't fold & stow on the car, it's easy enough to remove & it will fold flat for easier storing.
Tow about 5K a month , probaly have 40k on it only issue I've had was swing bolt by hitch broke.

Hi.......I read your review of the Roadmaster Tracker tow bar and am considering purchasing this model. I have to admit, a major consideration is the affordability of this model. The RV dealers in my area are quoting me prices in the neighborhood of $4000 to outfit my RV to tow my Honda CRV. Base plate, tow bar, wiring, brake assist,,,,the works. Way over my budget, so am wondering if there is a more economical way to tow my vehicle.I am thinking of asking how much to only install a base plate on the Honda.... then going with this tow bar unit. I can get magnetic lights to use when I tow again, trying to keep the price down. Is this tow bar easy to connect and disconnect? Any feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks....Wayne
