Hey guys, today we're going to take a look at Hopkins GripTrax Traction Plates. Now these are going to be a great tool to keep in your vehicle, it's going to get you out of any sticky situations. Whether you're stuck in the snow, mud, sand, anything like that. We're going to take a closer look at them and then we'll take them outside and show you how to use them. Now that we're in close, we can see all of these raised ridges that are on this wedge right here, that's going to help start your tire by getting the grip you need to get onto the traction plate. And then we have the nice raised ridges and valleys that are going to help get all of the elements accumulated on your tire off and they can drain out through all of those holes. We're also going to have these teeth that are on one side of the plates.
Those are, again, going to help with traction on your tire, so your tire has something to grip while it's pulling itself out.Now here in the back side we'll take another close look. We see that we have those teeth double-sided all the way around. That's because the plate needs to have traction as well, it needs to be stuck on the ground. And we can see the back side of the wedge also has those pointed teeth that are going to help keep the plate in place while you're trying to get unstuck. And also, all of these holes are going to make the traction plate a lot easier to clean.
You can just take a hose to it or a power washer or anything like that. Once they've dried, just put them back in your car and they're ready for use the next time. Now you see I've gotten my car stuck. I just can't get myself out of this with no other traction. And you see that my tires just can't get any traction in this muddy and snowy field. But, don't worry, just grab the traction plates and we'll get to work.
So all we're going to do, just take the wedge part and put it under the front part of our tire. We just want to get it nice and snug under there. Just kind of work it's way in, want to just let it be. Now we're going to get back in our car and see if it can pull us out. Now we're back in our vehicle, we'll put it in drive and just take it slow, let the traction plate do it's job.
Well we're not stuck anymore, so now we can grab our traction plate and get back on the road. And that'll do it for a look at Hopkins GripTrax Traction Plates.

Get some extra traction between your vehicle's tires and the ground with these easy-to-use, easy-to-store traction pads. Perfect when you're stuck in snow, mud or sand.Wasn't expecting a ton of durability from such a light-duty product, but I was disappointed to find these cracked in a couple spots while rattling around with other stuff in my truck bed. They worked as you'd expect during my controlled test at home, but I haven't needed them yet in practice. But their size makes them very convenient to just always have in the car.
The traction plates have come in handle on many occasions in the Minnesota weather! Great customer service too!
I have not used these in the snow yet , but I have a different brand set that has a much lower “nose” profile that allows the traction pad to be pushed under the tire as far as possible when the tires are already spinning. On these pads (again I have yet to actually use them) I wonder how easily they will go under the tire so that the vehicle can begin to grip them.
I used the first set of Hopkins Grip Trax I purchased, and they work flawlessly. So I ordered a second set for my car.
Just got them today. I am ready to use them. We just got 13" of snow and I am still digging out.
Once again, I purchased a product from etrailer for an "off label" use. In this case, I bought the auto traction mats to be used in the making of homemade snowshoes! They can easily be bent into a snowshoe shape using a bit of heat, and you can attach bindings to the perforations to hold onto your boots. Works just as well or better than commercial snowshoes, and the price (especially from etrailer!) can't be beat.
eTrailer carried this excellent product and sold it at a very fair price while managing to ship it promptly and very well packaged. The traction plates will come in handy this winter to help my snowblower equipped tractor climb the 12 degree slope of my 250 foot driveway.
I bought two sets of these, one set for each car. Like snow chains, it is alway a blessing not to have to use them. That said, they are still in the car with the snow chains.
Using this product for traction on gravel. With two of them I'm able to change direction as I walk the TVXL25 Trailer Dolly up a slight incline. Width and length is ideal. Without this product the dolly wheels just spin in the gravel. Great fix at a great price.
These got my car unstuck from melty snow and mud! I rocked it in reverse, neutral, reverse neutral, until i could get onto Trax Plates. I suggest step lightly on gas or you'll scrape up tires. When I eased onto gas pedal, tires came up and over these beauties!! I was using my friend's, so I ordered these for myself. A++
Already had a pair for myself and was looking for a pair for my sisters. Shipping was super fast and price was cheaper than what i paid two years ago. My sisters love them. I hope we don't need them this year. I sure did last year. I have a 2014 Explorer (not AWD) and it was a breeze getting my truck out of the snow. They are very durable.
Bought and put somewhere in the basement. Didn't try them out, because last year was not that much of the snow.
Purchased these traction devices for an upcoming winter travel trip to Lake Tahoe. Hope I don’t have to use them - but just in case.
Exactly as described. Lots easier then getting out and putting chains on when only a little traction will do it. Highly recommend.
Haven’t used these yet, but I’m happy with my purchase through etrailer.
Looking forward to it helping this wint er.
It's been working great for a year, so far.
Best bang for your buck for a small car. At these prices you'd be crazy not to buy 2 sets...also good to have 2 sets because they are small.
Used them one time they bent and broke. Ended up in the next trash can I went by.
I haven't had a chance to use them yet, but I sure do wish I had these when I got stuck in the sand in Utah! Now I'm prepared
Great product. Easy to take along while going on road trips just in case I get stuck in the snow.
Ordering from etrailer was easy, quick, and all products perfectly fit the description. Will order from them again if needed. Thank you!
Got me out of a snow drift while pulling a trailer.
I bought these after having a vehicle stuck in the snow. I haven’t had an opportunity to use them yet. They are just a little short , yet easier to stow than longer ones. So I think they are just about the optimum for any non 4 wheel drive.
I have used these twice to get my van unstuck. The worked both times although spinning tire melted a portion of the pad. They are useful and I would recommended them.

The traction plate just needs to be snug against the front of whichever tire is stuck. If you take it slow, it should work just fine. Please watch this attached video for details:
