Note: This Axle-Less system requires crossbeam support. If your trailer frame doesn't have a crossmember in place, you can retrofit it with one, or you can add a support by running a piece of 2" x 2" steel tubing through the square holes cut into these units. You could also add a steel reinforcement bracket to the inside of the trailer frame.

There are many suspension options for your trailer or camper. So, what makes Timbren Axle-Less different?
Axle-Less systems are a definitive upgrade over traditional leaf springs, in part because they allow you to do away with your thru-axle, allowing for maximum clearance. As you've probably noticed, having a leaf spring suspension means that your axle will always hang at least a few inches below your trailer's frame, resulting in limited ground clearance. This may make it difficult to navigate off-road terrain.
In addition, while leaf springs do a great job of supporting an even load, they may cause your trailer to bounce and rattle when it's empty or to bottom out with a heavy load. And they don't offer any type of shock absorption for a smooth ride - unless you have upgrades built in. With Timbren's Axle-Less system, gone are the days of dealing with these annoyances - this suspension is designed for a quiet, balanced ride, whether your trailer's fully loaded or empty.
A torsion axle is a step up in terms of shock absorption, and it provides more clearance than a traditional, leaf spring suspension, but that crossbeam will still hang down some. And if your torsion axle gets damaged in any way, it can't be repaired - you'll have to replace the entire thing with a setup that matches your exact trailer frame width.
With the Axle-Less system from Timbren, you won't have a low-hanging axle beam to get in the way when you want to go off-road. The lift spindles on this setup will also raise your deck height, making navigating off-road terrain way easier. And the rubber springs and independent operation both combine to absorb shock and deliver a smooth, easy ride. In addition, the Axle-Less system can be easily maintained over time, and it will fit any trailer frame width, so you don't have to worry about potentially ordering the wrong size like you might with other systems.
Another suspension upgrade on the market is Timbren's Silent Ride. This setup is a great option to reduce bounce and rattle because it has the same AEON rubber springs as the Axle-Less system. But the Silent Ride still requires an axle, so you won't get the same ground clearance or low deck height as you will with the Axle-Less suspension.
The Timbren Axle-Less suspension is designed with you in mind. All of the parts work together so you can tow your trailer comfortably - regardless of load size.
The first step in installing the Timbren Axle-Less suspension is to make sure that the mounting points for each unit are directly across from each other. The easiest way to measure this is to mark the desired mounting points on your trailer's frame. Then measure the distance between these points and the center of your trailer coupler. These measurements (A and B) need to be within 1/8" to keep your trailer frame square.
Once you have your mounting points lined up, you'll be ready to install the system. Drill 3 holes into your trailer frame at the desired mounting points. Then bolt each unit to the frame with Grade 8, 1/2" bolts (not included).
Because Timbren's Axle-Less system eliminates your trailer's thru-axle, you'll have to find another way to get the crossbeam support that keeps your trailer frame square. You have a few different options to do this depending on your application and how much fabricating you're comfortable doing.
If you're building a trailer, the best option is to begin building with the Timbren Axle-Less in mind and include a crossmember where you want to install the units on your frame. You can also retrofit an existing trailer with a crossmember.
If you don't have a crossmember where you want to install the Axle-Less system (and you don't want to add one), pick up a section of 2" x 2" steel tubing from a nearby weld shop. This tubing will serve as a support to keep your trailer square. It will hang only about an inch down from your trailer frame, providing more clearance than a thru-axle.
After you've mounted both of the units to your frame, you'll need to drill 3 holes into the steel tubing and into the built-in, square holes. Then, insert the tubing through the holes and secure it with 3 bolts (not included) on each side.
The last option is to fabricate a reinforcement bracket that can be attached to the inside of your trailer frame and to the Axle-Less suspension. It may be a little harder to fabricate a compatible bracket than to mount steel tubing, but you may get additional clearance with this method.

The suspension handled 1000 miles of washboard gravel roads and mild rocky offroading with ease. We don't drive gently and had the trailer airborne at one point. The brackets that we opted to fabricate for them were straightforward and simple to install. I especially like the ground clearance under the trailer that you gain due to the lack of a solid traditional axle. The ride quality overall was excellent, especially given where we took it. In hindsight we should have gotten the 4" travel version as it may have been able to soak up deep ruts at 40mph a bit better. Only mild complaint is that the powdercoating on the leading edges had already begun to flake off when we received the suspension. I hit it with a can of spray paint, but I would have hoped it would be more durable. Overall, I will definitely be purchasing this axle-less suspension again for my next trailer build.

Michael, My trailer was so light even fully loaded that I didnt see the need for brakes and never missed having them.I stand corrected: We did get the 4 lift, but the non-HD instead of the HD because the specs said that it had a bit more travel. and we didnt need the weight capacity. That being said, Im still happy with how this suspension performs. My trailer is on 31s on a stock Cherokee.
Excellent, helpful customer service sold me this product, and trust me when I say it's worth the price tag. Pulled the old axle and leaf spring off a 60's era Bantam and swapped out for this with a support bar in between. Bumped up tires to 315/75r16 BFG TA/KO's to match my rig and am amazed at how much better this trailer now pulls. Empty it wad bouncing all over the place with the old axle and leaf spring setup. Now I hardly even know it's there. Was very easy to install, took a couple hours but I am happy with how it turned out. A+++ product and customer service!

They are GREAT! I put them on a small offroad trailer that has followed me all over some really rough roads in remote Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. They have performed flawlessly, helped the trailer tow extremely well, and were the single best upgrade I did to that trailer. Very much looking forward to another summer of exploring! Massive upgrade to the stock axle leaf spring combo, and I have had the opportunity to show it off to alot of fellow overlanders. I cant speak high enough of them. I also purchased a set of airbags for my vehicle which unfortunately have not held up terribly well. I have had to field repair one once already, and neither holds air terribly well. Truth be told they seem very underdesigned for the job they perform. From my super secret high tech pocket internet window.
I love these. 30k miles and still going. Almost 1k offroad and they're still holding up. Fully loaded my overlanding trailer weighs 2k lbs, empty 1360 lbs. They did settle a little, but I just raised my fenders a little.
We are high production company . Said it was in stock, took way too long for a instock product to be sent. 3 weeks, we did not know when it would come so we ordered another and it comes in two days.
Havent had them on the road yet but install was pretty easy and they came out of the box more beefy than i was expecting ????
Exellent product, I installed the Timbren axless suspension on my little guy rough rider teardrop trailer, got four inches of lift and no axle hanging down in the way. I can now run 33 inch tires with no problems. These axles have been awesome! I put them on a teardrop camper I built and they are great. I was able to easily adjust the camber and toe once weight was loaded on. They also have very high ground clearance which is great for overlanding.
Timbren axle- less suspension is a great product, this is the second one I have installed on an offroad trailer. Easy to install, pulls great, no axle hop, very easy to service. E-trailer shipped very quickly, arrived in 2 days, would recommend the product and e-trailer to anyone.
There were no instructions included, but not really necessary. Installation is very straight forward. I have not pulled the trailer since installation, but all components fit very well and I am sure it will be an improvement.
Fast service, good informational updates, quality products (the axles look awesome!) reasonable pricing and in time delivery! Very satisfied with the service I recieved from etrailer! I would definately purchase again or refer them to others!

Timbren has fixed the weld issues that were reported in previous reviews. The parts fit together very well now. Still working on getting it installed but so far so good.
I was looking for a low profile axle system for my motorcycle trailer. The primary requirement was to be able to load my motorcycle by myself which required a low-profile trailer. With the 4" drop provided by Timbren, this setup turned out great. I originally intended on using ramps but after I swapped the leaf spring axle out with the Timbren, I found I was able to ride my motorcycle on/off without the need for the ramps.
Originally, I was going to go axle-less but I found when torquing down the assembly to my frame it started to compress the aluminum rail. To take the pressure off the frame I added the 2" bar from axle to axle. Pulls smooth and effortlessly.
I've had several people comment on the trailer height with one wanting to buy the trailer from me. This person worked at the local Honda Dealership. He thought it was a great design and I would imagine he's seen a variety of trailers come through his lot.
The other option I considered was a torsion axle but I was looking for the lowest profile I could get. Therefore, cost was not a key factor. I also like the soft ride the Timbren system provides. Not sure if the torsion design would have been as smooth over bumpy roads. Regardless, I'm pleased with how this project came out.
Be warned! I would not buy from Etrailer ever again. We received our order and Etrailer failed to send the entire trailer axle kit. They did not include one spindle in the kit, rendering our order useless without ordering an additional spindle. Because more than 30 days had elapsed before reporting the issue, Etrailer refused to send the spindle, in addition to insinuating that I was deceiving them. This must be how they increase their revenues…don’t send the entire order, and if the customer does not catch it within 30 days, the customer loses and Etrailer makes more money. Absolutely horrible customer service from the company who failed to fulfill their end of the contract while accusing me of being deceptive. One star is far too generous for Etrailer and their scams.

Ashley, the 4 version doesnt actually give it more travel. Its the same was the standard or the system as far as suspension travel. What the 4 system does it lift the height of the trailer from the ground, depending on what youre doing with the trailer. For an off road trailer I personally would do the 4raise for added ground clearance, just gotta make sure the trailer doesnt get top heavy. The standard system is good for pretty much all uses and the system is for when you need a really low deck height for a lawn mower or go kart for example. I appreciate your review as I am going to be building a small off road campingbug-out trailer to tow behind my lifted FJ cruiser. I havent decided if I am going to go with the standard height or the 4 lift as I am going to be running the same off road tires toyo RT that I have on my FJ on the trailer and I want the trailer to sit around the same height. Did you add brakes to yours? Im planning on either running electric brakes or if available in am going to run surge brakes.
