Axle Dimensions

Hub Face and Spring Center Measurements on Standard Trailer Axle

There are multiple ways to measure the length of an axle beam, but the hub-face-to-hub-face and spring-center-to-spring-center lengths are the most accurate. Hub face (A) refers to the length of the axle measured from the base of one wheel stud to the base of the wheel stud on the opposite side of the axle (when hubs are mounted on the beam).

The spring center (B) is the approximate width of your trailer. It is measured from the center of the spring seat on one side of the axle to the center of the seat on the other. This axle beam comes with the spring seats welded on.

If you are replacing your trailer's axle, you should be able to figure out which type you need by determining your trailer's capacity, the bolt pattern of your wheels, the brake type and the aforementioned lengths.

etrailer Axles

etrailer axles are made of high-strength steel and come with spindles and spring seats welded on. The spring seats are attached to the underside of the axle so that the leaf springs (sold separately) can mount beneath the axle. The result of this underslung design is a trailer that rides a bit lower for quick and easy loading and unloading.

Each axle is manufactured to create a certain camber angle. This ensures that the angle of the wheels is correct for your towing needs. Because the primary concern when towing is maintaining controlled, in-line movement, each axle is made so that your trailer's tires will run along the pavement evenly, with contact across the width of the tread. The result is excellent straight-line acceleration for steady, in-line tracking. You might notice the bend near the center of the axle; this is what ensures the proper camber angle. Having the center ride a bit higher and the sides of the axle bent lower allows the axle to give just enough to compensate for the load.

Exactly as described. I had to relocate the exit holes for the brake wires as they were too close to springs.

Number one quality parts. Had to replace the axle due to lack of lubrication of the wheel bearings. Love the concept and ease of keeping the wheel bearings supplied with fresh grease on the e-z lube axles.

Review from a similar etrailer Axle Beam in Trailer Axles

Received exactly when expected. I realize they where odd shaped items but I think they could’ve been packaged a little better than plastic wrap. The rubber boot over the spindle was a great touch but the flange bolts were unprotected. Other than packaging I was very pleased with my order and they bolted right up.

  • Replacement Axle for My Sail Boat Trailer
We do have the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles - 89" Long - 3,500 lbs # e38GR available as a lighter replacement axle for your sail boat trailer. The # e38GR has a weight capacity of 3500 lbs while the # e45GR has a weight capacity of 5200 lbs. The one other difference is the # e38GR is 2 1/2" longer than the # e45GR. There are no 5 bolt idler hubs to work with the # e45GR.

  • Replacement Dexter D52 Trailer Axle with 86.5" Hub Face Length
It sounds like you're looking for the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam part # 8327816 which is 86.5" long at the hub face and has a 5,200 lb weight capacity. The spring seats however will need to be moved in for your application which requires tack welding so bear this in mind, you'll likely want part # TRSS300 to go with as removing the old ones cleanly is difficult. If you're looking to save some cash we do have this same axle through our in-house brand as part # e45GR.

  • What are Grease Seal Dimensions for etrailer Axle # e45GR
You are correct the seal dimensions the trailer axle # e45GR uses are 2.25 inch by 3.375 inch and for a replacement would be # RG06-070.

  • Replacement Idler Hub for 5200 lb Axle
Unfortunately, we don't offer an idler hub with a 5 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern that's compatible. Given the ID of the bearings you provided, you have a 5200 lb axle. If you can switch to a hub with a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern, the # 8-213-5UC1 would be compatible if the surface of the spindle where the grease seal rides is 2.125 inches in diameter. The hub includes the 25580 inner and LM67048 outer bearings, the corresponding races, the grease seal, dust cap and the lug nuts.

  • Which Idler Hubs Will Work the Trailer Axle Beam # e45GR
Depending on the size of your wheel and the bolt pattern we do have some different options for an idler hub for the Trailer Axle Beam # e45GR. If your wheel size is 14" - 16 1/2" and the bolt pattern is 6 on 5 1/2", you can use an idler hub like the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 5,200-lb Axles - 6 on 5-1/2" # 8-213-5UC1. If your wheels are 16" - 17 1/2" and the bolt pattern is 8 on 6 1/2", you can use an idler hub like the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly - 5,200-lb, 6,000-lb and...

  • Replacement Axle for 4,400 Pound Axle on 2019 Dutchmen Aspen Trail 3210BHDS
What you have is an 85" long axle with a 4,400 lb capacity. Since 4,400 lb axles are no longer being produced, you will need an axle with a higher capacity for a replacement. There are also no 4,400 lb spindles available. For a replacement I recommend the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles - 86-1/2" Long - 5,200 lbs # e45GR. This axle is 86-1/2" long so it will stick out an additional 3/4" on each side but that won't be a problem. The spring seat measurement is also different....

  • 86 Inch Axle With Hub and Electric Brakes For Enclosed Trailer
The closest we have to that is an 86-1/2 inch hub-face to hub-face axle with springs seats that are 71-1/2 inches center to center. So what you would need to do is get new springs seats and have them welded on the axle at the correct length. You also need to make sure the axle is properly rated for your enclosed trailer; the two axle capacities we offer that are 86-1/2 inches long are 5,200 lb and 6,000 lb capacity. For the axles, spring seats, hubs, and brakes you can use the following: -...

  • Solution for Custom Axle Replacement on REMEQ Boat Trailer
I do have a solution for a replacement, but we do not create custom axles here at etrailer. For your REMEQ boat trailer I recommend using the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System. This system fits any frame width so you would not have to worry about the axle length for a replacement. Assuming you need a 5,200 lb axle like the # e45GR you were looking at, we have the # TASR5200S05. We have other options as well like the # ASR3500S05 for replacing a 3,500 lb axle or the # ASR2KHDS01...

  • Recommended Axle To Replace 86-1/2" Long Dexter Mobile Home Axle
I reached out to my contact at Dexter and based on the part number you provided you have an older mobile home axle that has an 86-1/2" hub face to hub face measurement, and 75-1/2" spring center to spring center measurement. They were unable to find the exact weight rating of the axle. Based on the hub face length you need for a replacement we have the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles - 86-1/2" Long # e45GR which has a 5200lb axle rating which would be a great choice. • Recommended 5200lb Axle With 86-1/2" Hub Face Measurement For 2013 Keystone Cougar 325SRX TH
I do have an option for your 2013 Keystone Cougar 325SRX TH. We have the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles # e45GR which has the 5200lb rating you need, along with the 86-1/2" hub face measurement you are needing, and then a local welder can remove the current spring seats that are 71-1/2" apart and move them to 68-1/2" apart. This axle uses the standard 5200lb bearing combination so if your current brakes and hub and drum assemblies are in good shape they can be reused or you...

  • Replacement Axles, Leaf Springs, and Equalizers for 2010 Keystone Cougar 26BHSWE
From what I have found, you have 4,400 lb axles on your 2010 Keystone Cougar 26BHSWE. Your axles have a hub face measurement of 85" and a 68-1/2" spring center. Unfortunately, 4,400 lb axles are no longer being made so you will also be replacing the hubs and drums. When choosing a replacement axle you typically want to match the hub face measurement. You will also need a higher capacity axle (5,200 lb) since moving down in capacity wouldn't be enough for your 7,800 lb GVWR. I recommend...
