Axle Dimensions

Hub Face and Spring Center Measurements on Standard Trailer Axle

There are multiple ways to measure the length of an axle beam, but the hub-face-to-hub-face and spring-center-to-spring-center lengths are the most accurate. Hub face (A) refers to the length of the axle measured from the base of one wheel stud to the base of the wheel stud on the opposite side of the axle (when hubs are mounted on the beam).

The spring center (B) is the approximate width of your trailer. It is measured from the center of the spring seat on one side of the axle to the center of the seat on the other. This axle beam comes with the spring seats welded on.

If you are replacing your trailer's axle, you should be able to figure out which type you need by determining your trailer's capacity, the bolt pattern of your wheels, the brake type and the aforementioned lengths.

etrailer Axles

etrailer axles are made of high-strength steel and come with spindles and spring seats welded on. The spring seats are attached to the underside of the axle so that the leaf springs (sold separately) can mount beneath the axle. The result of this underslung design is a trailer that rides a bit lower for quick and easy loading and unloading.

Each axle is manufactured to create a certain camber angle. This ensures that the angle of the wheels is correct for your towing needs. Because the primary concern when towing is maintaining controlled, in-line movement, each axle is made so that your trailer's tires will run along the pavement evenly, with contact across the width of the tread. The result is excellent straight-line acceleration for steady, in-line tracking. You might notice the bend near the center of the axle; this is what ensures the proper camber angle. Having the center ride a bit higher and the sides of the axle bent lower allows the axle to give just enough to compensate for the load.

With the purcahase of additional spring seats, I was able to get more clearance to the bottom of the trailer. Easy grease, where have you been all my life.

by:

The axles that I ordered last year are still working out great. But even better than the parts was the service I got from etrailer. It was so great working with a company who took the time to listen to my project and help me get the right parts I needed, especially coming right off the heels of a terrible experience dealing with bad information and wrong parts from a competitor. Even with some damages in shipping, the returns/ and replacements were no hassle, with most issues being quickly resolved and not even costing me any additional downtime. As a contractor keeping a small fleet rolling, your competency and professionalism have made me a customer for life!! You guys at etrailer will be my first stop for trailer parts.

by:

I would have gave you five but when I contacted to about the missing bolt and no shalf protector on the one end. Bolt was missing on the brake plate.

Welds looked good however the assembler failed to rotationally align the weld on spindle/brake mounts properly. One was about 3 degrees off and the other side was an 9.5 degrees from the 12 oclock position. Not sure about the thickness of the tube. Kind of strange to look at when the top of the brake system is not at 12 oclock. Found this after I removed the spring pads on this 2.1 degree camber axle so I had to jig the tube to fine zero toe to locate the new pads as the 2.1 camber tube changes wheel alignment depending on the bend/ springpad relationship. Not sure the AVG JOE is going to be able to move the spring pads when the brake mounts can't be used as a reliable ref point. If the toe is off from improper pad rotational location. the trailer will eat tires at best or worse cause a loss of controlled tracking and someone could get get killed.

by:

Replaced the old axles with these on my 7x16’ equipment trailer, been nothing but amazing since I’ve installed them. Hauled thousands of pounds since and with minor greasing and normal maintenance they’ve been great.

by:

So far performing well. Have not been able to use trailer yet as much as I wanted to, don't use the grease nipples. Its easy to regrease without.

by:

Good product and good service

by:

No issues with the bearings

by:

Everything is working perfect with that replacement axle. I have definitely put it to the test a lot of miles with a lot of weight. Very highly recommended.

by:

Very easy installation. Everything fit perfect.

  • What's Needed To Upgrade From 5,200 Lb to 7,000 Lb Trailer Axles
We currently offer 7,000 lb trailer axles in two different lengths, 94" part # e93GR and 95" part # e88GR which is measured from the face of each hub. The spring centers are set at 79" and 80" respectively but these can always be moved to a degree if needed. If these will work for you then you'll also need to get new springs and u-bolts like the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles part # APUBR-8 but the rest can be reused like your brakes and hubs/drums. I...

  • How to Choose Replacement 7,000 lb Trailer Axle
I couldn't find any reference to a Rigid Hitch TA-2750, though to choose the correct 7,000 lb trailer axle, you just need a couple measurements. You'll just need to know the dimensions of your current axle's hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center; I have added a help article below which shows you exactly how to measure. For example, the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles # e88GR measures 95 inches from hub face to hub face and 80 inches from spring center to spring...

  • Availability Of 8,000 lb Axle Beam
Hello Steve. I am sorry to say that we do not stock any 8,000 lb axles here. The highest rated axle we offer is a 7K like part # e88GR. This axle will use the standard 12" x 2" brake shoes. On top of that, we do not measure our axles in the manner you described. We only have the hub face measurement and spring center distance which for this axle are 95" and 80" respectively. If you are in need of an 8K axle I recommend you contact an axle manufacturer like Dexter. They may even be able...

  • Replacement Axle With A 95 Inch Hub Face
The correct replacement for you 95 inch hub face measurement is The Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles - 95 inch Long - 7,000 pounds # e88GR. The spring centers are 80 inches apart so you will have to remove them and weld new spring seats to the locations that you measured using The Spring Seat # TRSS300. The spring center is measured from the center of each seat. I attached a review video link below.

  • Is it Safe to Tow 25,000 Pound Trailer With 5th Wheel Hitch Rated for 24,000 Pounds
You will always be limited by the lowest rated component of your setup. Since the PullRite 5th wheel hitch you have now is rated for 24,000 lbs that would be the most you could tow. I recommend checking the GVWR and axle rating of your trailer so you know what your trailer is capable of. Trailer axles may seem underrated at times when compared to the trailer weight but you need to account for the pin weight which won't be on the axles when towing. Also, you can still tow your trailer...
