Axle Dimensions

Hub Face and Spring Center Measurements on Standard Trailer Axle

There are multiple ways to measure the length of an axle beam, but the hub-face-to-hub-face and spring-center-to-spring-center lengths are the most accurate. Hub face (A) refers to the length of the axle measured from the base of one wheel stud to the base of the wheel stud on the opposite side of the axle (when hubs are mounted on the beam).

The spring center (B) is the approximate width of your trailer. It is measured from the center of the spring seat on one side of the axle to the center of the seat on the other. This axle beam comes with the spring seats welded on.

If you are replacing your trailer's axle, you should be able to figure out which type you need by determining your trailer's capacity, the bolt pattern of your wheels, the brake type and the aforementioned lengths.

etrailer Axles

etrailer axles are made of high-strength steel and come with spindles and spring seats welded on. The spring seats are attached to the underside of the axle so that the leaf springs (sold separately) can mount beneath the axle. The result of this underslung design is a trailer that rides a bit lower for quick and easy loading and unloading.

Each axle is manufactured to create a certain camber angle. This ensures that the angle of the wheels is correct for your towing needs. Because the primary concern when towing is maintaining controlled, in-line movement, each axle is made so that your trailer's tires will run along the pavement evenly, with contact across the width of the tread. The result is excellent straight-line acceleration for steady, in-line tracking. You might notice the bend near the center of the axle; this is what ensures the proper camber angle. Having the center ride a bit higher and the sides of the axle bent lower allows the axle to give just enough to compensate for the load.

The axles that I ordered last year are still working out great. But even better than the parts was the service I got from etrailer. It was so great working with a company who took the time to listen to my project and help me get the right parts I needed, especially coming right off the heels of a terrible experience dealing with bad information and wrong parts from a competitor. Even with some damages in shipping, the returns/ and replacements were no hassle, with most issues being quickly resolved and not even costing me any additional downtime. As a contractor keeping a small fleet rolling, your competency and professionalism have made me a customer for life!! You guys at etrailer will be my first stop for trailer parts.

I have checked all of our stock as well as gotten in contact with the manufacturer and these are most definitely supposed to come with the castle nuts. Let me get you over to our customer service department for them to get you the missing nuts.

I could not find the exact axle for my 2006 Carryall tandem axle trailer. This one was a perfect fit between spring perches but increased the distance between wheels by one inch. Also had to use a wheel seal with a larger ID. This was not a problem at all. I will be replacing the front axle shortly. The originals had a rust issue where the spring gripes (u-bolts) hold the axle. Well built product!

by:

5 very happy.

by:

Received exactly when expected. I realize they where odd shaped items but I think they could’ve been packaged a little better than plastic wrap. The rubber boot over the spindle was a great touch but the flange bolts were unprotected. Other than packaging I was very pleased with my order and they bolted right up.

Welds looked good however the assembler failed to rotationally align the weld on spindle/brake mounts properly. One was about 3 degrees off and the other side was an 9.5 degrees from the 12 oclock position. Not sure about the thickness of the tube. Kind of strange to look at when the top of the brake system is not at 12 oclock. Found this after I removed the spring pads on this 2.1 degree camber axle so I had to jig the tube to fine zero toe to locate the new pads as the 2.1 camber tube changes wheel alignment depending on the bend/ springpad relationship. Not sure the AVG JOE is going to be able to move the spring pads when the brake mounts can't be used as a reliable ref point. If the toe is off from improper pad rotational location. the trailer will eat tires at best or worse cause a loss of controlled tracking and someone could get get killed.

So far performing well. Have not been able to use trailer yet as much as I wanted to, don't use the grease nipples. Its easy to regrease without.

by:

Everything is working perfect with that replacement axle. I have definitely put it to the test a lot of miles with a lot of weight. Very highly recommended.

by:

Very easy installation. Everything fit perfect.

by:

The mounts were 1/2 inch closer than advertised. I was able to persuade the springs inward to compensate. Good price and fast shipping.

by:

Axle arrived fast, was exactly what I ordered and needed. Install went well with no problems.

by:

Worked great on my trailer.
It is a older
trailer and I needed to move the anchor points on the axel but that was not difficult to have done.
Axel works great.
I love the easy grease feature.

by:

The axle was exactly what I ordered and showed up much quicker than I expected. I installed it in about an hour. Good quality. Having the wire for the brakes already ran inside the axle made it very easy to rewrite the brakes, nice feature.

by:

  • Is Trailer Axle Spring Seat Dimension Critical when Picking Out Replacement Axle
Exact measurements are critical when picking out a replacement axle for a trailer. Especially the spring seat to spring seat dimension since that is where the axle attaches and it needs to match to allow the suspension to function. You are very close to the # e93GR though so I would try measuring again or if you have another axle on the trailer that isn't damaged measure that.

  • 7,000 lb Axles & How to Determine Correct Hanger
So all of the parts are just going to depend, meaning it's impossible to give you anything exact. To choose the correct axle you need to measure your current axle's hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center; I have added a link below to a video which walks you through how to measure. For example, if it was 94" hub face to hub face and 79" spring center to spring center you'd use the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles - 94" Long - 7,000 lbs # e93GR. I have added a...

  • Recommended Trailer Axle for Trailer with 93" Long Hub Face Measurement
I do have an option for you but the closest trailer axle we offer for what you're looking for is the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles part # e93GR which measures 94" at the hub face and 79" at the spring center. If used to replace a trailer axle with a 93" hub face then the wheels/tires will stick out a 1/2" more on each side. The spring seats can then be cut and rewelded. The axle has a 7,000 lb capacity. I have attached for you below a video I made to help others pick out...

  • How to Determine Replacement Axle for 7k Dump Trailer
I have a way that you can determine what axle you need. Unfortunately, from your trailer model, I could not find the length specs of your 7k axles. Since you have a 7k axle, the next thing you need to know is the measurement from the left hub face to the right hub face as well as the left spring center to the right spring center. For example, if you have a hub face measurement of 94 inches and a spring center measurement of 79 inches, I recommend the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease...

We currently offer 7,000 lb trailer axles in two different lengths, 94" part # e93GR and 95" part # e88GR which is measured from the face of each hub. The spring centers are set at 79" and 80" respectively but these can always be moved to a degree if needed. If these will work for you then you'll also need to get new springs and u-bolts like the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles part # APUBR-8 but the rest can be reused like your brakes and hubs/drums. I do have another option however, if you're interested. The Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # TASR7KS01 would also work great for you. • Replacement Trailer Axle For 93" Hub Face To Hub Face Measurement
The Trailer Axle Beam # e93GR is the closest axle we have to the 93" hub face to hub face measurement you are looking for. It has a 94" hub face to hub face measurement. While the spring center on this axle is 79" you can have new Spring Seats # TRSS300 welded at the 76" you need. This axle is rated for 7,000lbs but will use the same #42 Spindle # TRU37FR and brake flange as the 6,000lb axle allowing you to use it. I do have one option for you as currently the narrowest 7,000LB Axle # e93GR is 94" from hub to hub. The Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # TASR7KS01 allows you to remove the leaf spring suspension and bolt the assembly to the trailer frame. This system utilizes Timbren Aeon progressive springs for a smoother ride on your trailer. The hub face will sit 6-1/4" from the frame of the trailer with the axle centerline 3-1/2" below the trailer frame. This spindle is the same size used...

As we do not have any axles with the 94" hub face and 80" leaf spring center measurement you are looking for I recommend the Timbren Axle-Less Suspension # ASR5200S01. This particular system will allow you to get rid of your leaf springs and hangers for an progressive rate spring suspension. This helps to cut down on the bouncing you may have with an empty trailer. It also gets rid of the axle tube which gives you better ground clearance. You will need the Electric Trailer Brake Kit #...
