The old corroded grease seal seat on the spindle would not hold Grease. This replacement surface for the seal seat and the accompanying slightly larger grease seal solve the problem perfectly, and at no great difficulty. A splendid arrangement!

The etrailer.com website made it easy for me to find exactly the part I needed. The part is non-typical and cannot be found in the big "hardware" and supply stores. The order was filled and shipped within a day. Email communication was excellent and verified each step of the order and ship process. Plus, the website has a video showing how to install the part!

by:

This was for a 2003 triton 16’ boat trailer, 13” wheels. The seals in this kit will work with ez-lube spindles that have the permanent collar ring. Beware of the complete L44649 bearing kits that have the 1.25” seal; make sure you measure your seal first. The rings included were not needed for my application. No one local had the correct size - these seals are about 1 3/8” inside diameter. Ordered late on Fri, had them here Mon. Thank you etrailer!

by:

All is good after a year after the items I purchased. You didn't carry the axle spindle wear sleeve for my boat trailer I found another source for that.
Thank you

by:

Put it on a camper and it is doing its job..

by:

It didn't work on my trailer. The ring inside the sleeve spaced the sleeve too far out and the seal did not ride on the sealing surface. I was leaving the next day on a fishing trip so I just removed the sleeve and seal and purchased standard seals locally..

These Bearing Buddy seals work with spindles that use the L44649 bearing for the inner bearing and use Bearing Buddies with at 1.980 inch hub bore.

by:

Parts came in ahead of scheduled time. Some parts had separated during shipping but the the great people at etrailer specially Tammy D were able to identify the pieces and everything went together great

Still working good as new

by:

There needs to be more information provided in the video that explains the example of a spindle that has a permanent stainless ring installed. 3 customer service reps never mentioned this while trying to work through a correct part application. I only realized this by finding the "note" below the diagram of parts.

Always fast and expert service at ETrailer.com.
I
had a time looking for the right parts for my Yacht Club Trailer to replace wheel bearings and seals. Etrailer had everything I needed and more. I also added grease caps instead of bearing buddy's i have on there. ( Always have a hard time taking the grease gun off the fittings. )
Love the roller bunks i bought last year too.

It's still January, but i will be set to go this spring.
Etrailer is my go to place for all my boat and trailer needs.
Thanks guyz n gallz at Etrailer. I'm one happy camper.

Everything is A-Okay!!! Thanks for the great customer service!!!

Great product, solves the problem of rusty axles eating the seals. I do however put the sleeves on with epoxy.

great product, great price, fast service

Proper size works great

I ordered wheel bearings, grease seals, and Bearing Buddies for my trailer. Delivery was fast, the items were all high-quality, and the videos on etrailer.com helped me install them. I'm especially happy with the grease seals, which include a stainless steel ring to cover the old dinged-up seal surface on my axle and prevent the new seals from wearing out quickly: "Spindle Grease Seal Set for L44649 Inner Bearing and 1.980 Bearing Buddy - BB60005".

by:

Ordered wheel bearings for my trailer and first of all I had no Idea where I would find the help to find the right parts. etrailer helped me and I installed the parts sent and they worked like a charm. Back to full use and working well this past year. Not only did they send the part but also provided tips and techniques to remove the old and replace the new. For an weekend mechanic, they gave me the help I need to do the job quickly and safely.

by:

I've an older small utility trailer with grease seals and seal wear rings that are not commonly available. I looked through trailer parts outlets in Seattle and on the web but ended up on-line with an etrailer customer rep. He knew exactly what I was after and had a kit to support it....for two hubs no less! I ordered on Monday with standard delivery which actually arrived the following Friday. With a Saturday parts installation, I was operational for Monday's yard waste haul. BTW: I had purchased the bearing/races locally but the shop only had 3 so I ordered the 4th from etrailer. Their price was $6.83 vs. $12.90 for the exact manufacture/make/model. If I had not already had the locally purchased races installed and the bearing greased, I wild have returned them and ordered 4 sets. Nuts.

by:

Check your axles before ordering to see if you need to replace the spindle collars . Well made but did not need extra parts Originally contacted etrailer for help with the correct seal size for a 2002 Zieman single axle PWC trailer. Seal dimensions measured were approximately 1.38 inner and 1.980 outer with L44649 inner and outer bearings.
Thought that the collar was a grease deflector/shield. Did not realize that the collar insert was a separate part of the spindle. Just needed the seals, but theses came with a separate ss inner seal collars for the spindles. My old ones were OK with no grooves cut into them so I did not need to replace. New seals appear to be working fine.

by:

I wish this grease seal wear sleeve kit would have worked for my trailer. They seem like a good fix for an annoying problem that many of us have with boat trailers. My issue was with the sleeve installed on the spindle, the hub is pushed out 1/8" from is previous resting place. This pushes the castle nut further out and I cant even come close to installing the cotter pin back in its hole in the spindle threads. Even if I omit the washer behind the nut the hole is still not accessible for the pin. I called customer service and they were sympathetic to the situation but I cant return it because it's used. I'm not too pleased about eating this cost since there was no mention of this potential issue. So if you dont have another 1/8"of play behind the castle nut to work with then you may want to consider another option.

by:

Bought this set for my boat trailer to use in conjunction with my SS Bearing buddies.
They work as promised. As others have pointed you may have to file down the grove in your castle nut to get your cotter pin back in ...not a big deal. This is my second set in 2 years as I am in the habit of repacking my bearings on that schedule...so naturally its pretty hard to remove the seal without damaging it. Just remember to order the right set to fit your spindle..,they have a few different ones..

by:

WHILE THIS KIT MAY BE GREAT FOR THE CORRECT AXLE SPINDLE CONFIGURATION IT WAS OF LIMITED USE FOR ME. THE ONLY USABLE ITEMS FOR MY CONFIGURATION WERE THE GREASE SEALS. THE GREASE SEALS WORKED FINE.
THE DOWN SIDE. THIS ENDED UP BEING A RATHER EXPENSIVE OPTION FOR TWO GREASE SEALS. THE PLUS SIDE. THIS WAS THE ONLY OPTION I COULD FIND THAT PROVIDED THE 1.375 ID / 1.980 OD GREASE SEALS. APPARENTLY THIS IS A POORLY SUPPORTED SPINDLE CONFIGURATION. MY RATING IS BASED ON THE LIMTED USE FOR MY PARTICULAR AXLE, NOT THE QUALITY OR ETRAILER'S PRICE OF THE PRODUCT. AS A SIDE NOTE, AT A RETAIL PRICE OF $xx.xx THIS PRODUCT WOULD BE A TOTAL RIPOFF. AT $xx.xx IT IS NOT GREAT BUT BEARABLE.
IF I EVER NEED TO REPLACE THE AXLE I AM GOING TO MAKE SURE THE NEW ONE IS WELL SUPPORTED.
ETRAILER, ANY CHANCE YOU CAN ALSO CARRY JUST THE 1.375 ID / 1.980 OD GREASE SEALS?

by:

Nothing wrong with the product. it deserves 5 stars. I gave it 4 stars because it wasn't part of a spindle set, i.e. I bought two spindle sets with smaller seals because the bearing and race sizes were what i needed but the seal in the spindle kit was not the size I needed so I had to throw away the seals that came with the spindle set and buy these. I knew that when placing the order. I would like etrailer to have a spindle set that includes this size seal.

by:

These things work great for rehabbing worn grease seal surfaces on older axles. I use them whenever I can, especially when worn, pitted, or damaged grease seal surfaces would otherwise prevent reusing an axle that is fine in every other way. It really helps to clean up where the new grease seal o-ring will seat on the spindle with emory cloth before installing. I've used them on some pretty rough axles and never had a leak since.

by:

Being no handyman I had to enlist my son's help, who's a mechanic. But he was too busy to call and order these parts himself, so I had to do it--and I really had no idea what I was supposed to order other than they were grease seals for my 17-foot trailer wheel-hubs... Luckily, upon calling I got to speak to Kathy who, with immense patience, guided me through until I understood where and what to look for. Even then I pretty much flipped a coin... The parts arrived sooner than expected (less than the 3-day shipping mode chosen) and were a perfect match. Thank you etrailer.com!

by:

this did fix my spindle/leaking grease seal issue, however I had to modify the spindle a little to make it work. The directions tell you #1 and #5 model seal kits sometimes don't fit some axles as intended based on axle/spindle design. I have an old 87' axle and this was the only product I could find that would work. Took a test drive and so far no more leaking grease seal. This worked when a regular grease seal would not have worked for me as my seal surface was old and damaged and worn.

by:

i ordered this part thinking all my troubles with grease leakage at inner seal would be cured. but when i received parts , there was a note on package that i may have to alter my retaining nut by shaving off the backside to make it thinner or by cutting the grooves where the cotter pin slips through a little deeper in order to get the hub on and secured. the stainless steel ring will not let my hub slide on deep enough to use original nut and pin. i wish this "NOTE" was listed on here and explained before i purchased....wasted money here! and still need a rear seal.

by:

Easy to install, the stainless steel surface seals MUCH better than the original pitted surface on my spindles. Much less expensive than a new axle!

Easy to install, but it will push the bearings out slightly (less than 1/8") so the spindle nut needed some modification.

  • Can Bearing Buddy Grease Seal Sets Be Used With BTR EZ Lube Spindles?
Since the Bearing Buddy Grease Seal Set # BB60005 will direct grease outside the hub you will not be able to use the EZ-Lube spindle. Instead you will need to use a set of the Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors # BB1980A-SS to fill your hubs with grease. You will need to remove the grease zerk on the end of the spindle before installing the Bearing Buddy caps.
