The DeeMaxx Difference

Close-up image of DeeMaxx disc brake installation

When brakes retain heat, they are more likely to experience brake fade, or loss of braking power. DeeMaxx addresses this problem by incorporating drainage holes in the hat section of each rotor to provide even more ventilation than other brands. Combining these holes with the conventional venting design allows DeeMaxx brakes to disperse heat faster. They're also able to shed moisture better, leading to less internal corrosion. The result is cooler-running, longer-lasting brakes that offer consistent performance.

DeeMaxx brakes are the only trailer brakes to satisfactorily pass the high standards of the SAE J2681 brake test. This test is designed to evaluate the friction performance of automotive brakes, so DeeMaxx's passing grade should tell you just how well made these products are.

Close-up image of DeeMaxx disc brake installation of brackets

The patented design of the caliper mounting bolt and sleeve makes installation easier while ensuring that the sleeves stay in place within the caliper. In addition, the side-support design of the caliper mounting bracket puts all of the weight on the bracket instead of on the bolts. This reduces premature wear and extends the life of the bolts, further ensuring optimal performance.

DeeMaxx brakes perform well even in the most demanding environments, which is one of the many reasons why they are preferred by law enforcement agencies like the Texas State Patrol, U.S. Border Patrol, and U.S. Coast Guard.

Great for Campers and Boat Trailers

If you own a trailer, you know that rust and corrosion will eventually creep up no matter where you tow, especially if your equipment doesn't have any kind of protective coating or plating. But if you tow your camper or trailer in the Midwest during the winter, or if you ever launch your boat in brackish water, you'll need even more protection because of the salt you'll likely encounter.

disc brake with signs of heavy rust and corrosion

The Maxx coating on the rotors, calipers, and brackets in this brake kit helps to ensure that DeeMaxx brakes don't end up looking like the one pictured above. It offers great corrosion protection, even with occasional use in saltwater. Rust-resistant coatings are graded according to a salt spray rating. Basically, this rating shows the amount of time it takes for a material to show signs of corrosion when exposed to pure, continuous salt spray. Zinc plating typically begins to deteriorate after about 100 hours. Dacromet usually lasts for around 300 to 400 hours. DeeMaxx's Maxx coating lasts for more than 1,000 hours in the salt spray test.

The environment this test creates is much harsher than anything you'll ever experience in your journeys, but it provides a testament to how well DeeMaxx brakes resist rust and corrosion.

If you're living the salt life full-time or you live right on the coast, you'll probably want to invest in something that offers even more protection, like DeeMaxx kits that include stainless steel components for the ultimate in corrosion resistance.

Get a Safer, More Comfortable Ride

Say goodbye to the days of your truck being pushed and pulled by your trailer. Disc brakes provide a safer, more comfortable ride than drum brakes. They offer shorter stopping distances and deliver consistent braking - even at highway speeds. So, you won't have to worry about things crashing around in your trailer or camper next time you reach unexpected traffic on the highway or debate if you can actually stop before that yellow light turns red.

Save Time and Money

More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes. Not only do disc brakes provide more controlled braking than drum brakes, but they also save you money by having fewer parts to maintain.

side-by-side comparison of an electric drum brake and a hydraulic disc brake

Unlike drum brakes, which have springs, magnets, and shoes that may need to be continually adjusted or replaced, disc brakes are virtually maintenance-free. There are no springs, cables, or other little components that you'll need to worry about failing.

close-up image of DeeMaxx disc brake caliper parts

The brake pads will naturally wear down, so eventually you'll have to replace them. But these pads are also way easier to replace than drum brake shoes. And the caliper - where the pads are housed - is located on the outside of the brake assembly. This means you just have to remove that one part to replace the brake pads rather than having to remove the entire assembly like you would with drum brakes.

This particular kit can save you time and money over other disc brakes on the market as well. A slip-on rotor may be easier to install initially, but water can find its way between the rotor and your existing hub, causing uneven rotor wear or runout. With a 1-piece hub-and-rotor assembly, water and debris can't get in to cause any corrosion or contamination.

instructions on how to bleed brakes laser etched into the back of a DeeMaxx disc brake caliper

DeeMaxx also has simple instructions for bleeding the brakes laser-etched on the back of the calipers. This convenient time saver means you'll always have the guidance you need on hand when the time comes for maintenance.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

If you want to remount your existing wheels after installing these brakes, you'll need a kit that offers the same bolt pattern. To determine the bolt pattern, count the number of bolt holes (or lug nuts) on your trailer's wheel. This will give you the first number in the pattern. To find the second number, just measure the distance between a bolt hole and the bolt hole across from it.

diagram showing how to measure even bolt pattern

For example, on wheels with an even number of bolt holes: 6 on 5-1/2" means 6 bolt holes with 5-1/2" from the center of 1 hole to the center of the hole across from it.

diagram showing how to measure odd bolt pattern

And with an odd number of bolt holes: 5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" from the center of 1 hole to the farthest edge of one of the 2 farthest bolt holes.

Good product. Great service. Some damage occurred during shipping, but replacement parts were shipped free of charge.

I purchased this to replace what the OEM had on my trailer. Easy install, but had a probem with it after install. etrailer could not help determine how to fix the issue, but gave me the number to the manufacturer. After several calls to DeeMaxx with no reponse I figured it out.

I previously purchased Deemax rotors, calipers with pads and wouldn’t fit my mounting brackets on my venture trailer. I called Stacy at customer service at etrailer and she worked with me and my issues to return the previous shipment (awaiting credit) . She had me buy 2 sets of the brake kits by Deemax which is for 4 wheels of rotors, calipers with pads and mounting brackets and they are great . The brakes and rotors on my trailer were shot, rusted beyond repair and I’ve started to tear them out and replace them all , the rusted bolts are they worst I’ve dealt with- see the photo for the look of the new rotors , bracket and still installing calipers.

by:

The parts themselves are great, but the packaging was AWFUL. A big box with two rotors in it, with loose calipers and pads banging around inside with no additional packaging material to cushion these parts. Disappointed in the etrailer customer service team, who passed the blame to the shippers. I'm sorry, but the shippers didn't package these...etrailer did.

by:

Product was as expected, good quality braking system, installed easily in about 1-2 hours per wheel. Shipping and ordering was quick and easy. Time will tell more after installing on my fresh water boat trailer.
Unfortunately, it did not clear my 15” wheels properly, as indicated in the product description. I found by adding a 1/4” wheel spacer, that was just enough to get the clearance needed to prevent the calipers from rubbing on my 15” rims. (I have also seen others say that they used a grinder to take about 1/4” off the caliper body to get them to clear). This is the only reason for 4/5 stars.

by:

rapid delivery, boxed well and brakes look of good quality. E trailer is so easy to order from and responsive.

by:

Heavy duty mounting brackets and calipers. Very high quality.

by:

Excellent brakes for my boat trailer.

by:

WOrks very good. Fit on a 15" rim were not good. The site said any 15, 16 or larger. The calibers drag on the inside of rims. I had to choose to go larger size rims but did not want to go larger because the hight I was at lauching boat now. Called tech support, they worked wirh manufacture and was told to grind dowm edge or caliber. It has extra metal from mold at factory. I did about 1/4 inch end to end and all is good with about 1/8 clearaance now.

by:

The package fit my boat trailer perfectly. Installation was fairly easy and I am ver pleased with the product. thanks

Everything about this order went extremely well. Rotors and brakes are a major improvement of the standard equipment that came with Venture trailer. Simple to install and time will tell on longevity.

DeeMaxx parts seem to last longer in our saltwater than the Kodiak. I had both until the Kodiaks locked up. I bought this set to replace the Kodiaks that were a couple years newer than the Deemaxx.

  • Replacement Bearing Kit and Brakes for a 2003 Boat Trailer with 3,500 lb Axles
Thanks for the information and photo, Kenneth! It looks like your trailer is equipped with 3,500 lb axles so to replace your bearings and seals you need the kit # BK2-100, but it also looks like you have an older disc brake kit with a design that I've never seen. I know we don't have any replacement parts for that and you'll likely be hard-pressed to find anything unless your boat trailer manufacturer still has parts available. What I recommend doing is replacing your disc brakes entirely...

  • Recommended Replacement 10" Disc Brake Kit for a Coyote Trailer for Saltwater Application
Thanks for reaching out, Sam! The Kodiak Disc Brakes # KOD59FR with the Dacromet/KodaGuard are definitely a solid choice, but the hub-rotors and brackets only have a 300- to 400-hour salt spray rating and the calipers have a 500- to 600-hour salt spray rating. At the very least I recommend using the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit # DE66YR because everything has the Maxx Coating that has over 1,000 hours salt spray rating. If you want the best of the best then the part # DE46YR is the same kit...

Hey Brandon, Based on the information you've provided I recommend the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit # DE66YR. This disc brake kit has a corrosion-resistant "Maxx" coating finish on the hub/rotors, calipers, and brackets for a salt spray rating over 1,000 hours. It uses the same bearing sizes and and has the same wheel bolt pattern at 5 on 4-1/2. The brake lines should connect to the inlet on the caliper but they do sit a little lower than the original calipers. I've attached a video below where...

  • Replacing Knott Brand Brake Calipers And Rotors On A Coyote Boat Trailer With 3,500 lb Axles
We do have some options for replacing the Knott calipers and rotors on your Coyote Boat Trailer. We really do not have any info or specs on the Knott brand brakes, but since it is all for a 3,500 lb axle the sizing should be standard. Standard meaning the axle uses the standard 4-bolt brake flange (holes 2-7/8" apart on center), and the hub uses the # L68149 (1.378" inner diameter) inner bearing, and the # L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) outer bearing. Trailer brake actuators like the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX56FR you're looking at are rated more for the brake type and not necessarily a specific amount of axles since it has to do with the amount of pressure the actuator pushes into the brake lines.
