Everything fit just right wired up just fine takes a little while to break these things in but once they start biting they work really nice I did a little bit more than just replace the brakes I did the shocks, springs and equalizer then re-painted everything underneath too, pretty much rebuilt the entire suspension sure makes a difference. I'm including some before and after pictures here they're probably out of order but them's the berries folks !

I was replacing the 20 year old electric brakes on my utility trailer and choose the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust electric trailer brake kit. The non Dexter brand cost less but after adding shipping and adding the nut kit they were the same as the Dexter brakes with free shipping and the nuts were included with the Dexter kit. This was one the easiest projects I have ever done. I had recently replaced the bearings so getting the brake drum off was a breeze. I used butt connectors with the heat shrink insulation wot connect the power to the bakes. I had thought this would be a two day project but did both sides in about 3 hours. And best of all, the new brakes function as they should, it was like I did not have electric brakes before. Again an easy and well worth it project.

Comments
It has been a year since I installed the Nev-R-Adjust electric trailer brakes and they are still doing a great job. In October Hurricane Michael struck and I have used the utility trailer more than I ever anticipated and have had zero problems from the brakes. Moving equipment & debris became a daily task.

Good product. I'm a mechanic and I purchased these brakes when installing a third axle to our tandem car hauler. Their construction is good, solid quality components. My initial reaction to these automatic adjusting brakes was that they adjust too tight. This means too much drag when not in use and too quick to respond when used. (i.e., "touchy brakes") I've been a mechanic for longer than I'd like to admit and I'm pretty comfortable adjusting trailer brakes, I do it on a daily basis. These were too tight but better that than not tight enough. I don't recall if the tension is adjustable. After a year of hauling of loads of all sizes they're still the tightest of the three axles, the other two are manual. (because after 10 years of spectacular service they only needed magnets and drums which were done at the same time as the third axle) It's not a huge difference, most people wouldn't notice unless they have more than one axle and the other brakes are not the same which you shouldn't do anyway. (yeah, I know.) So for me now that it's time to check everything for annual inspection I will see how the shoe/drum wear compares and decide to upgrade the others or downgrade these. After all, I said I'm good at adjusting brakes, not that I want to. These are good brakes, you won't be disappointed.

These brake assemblies were an exact fit for my Dexter Axle. The kit came with everything needed to change it out, including the bolts to attach the brake backing plate. Very straightforward instructions. Fast shipping. I would recommend E-Trailer for any parts.

I recently removed the brake drums to check the brake pad wear and found the pads to be wearing evenly and no adjustment was needed. Self adjusting brakes are the way to go as an easy upgrade to the brake system.

The Dexter brake assembly is a complete unit, with new mounting hardware. Well worth the money for this unit. The hubs, ordered at the same time, included everything but a new washer for the outside bearing. I was able to use the existing. Only complaint was that both bearings, lock washer, new nut, and ez lube dust cover were loose in the box, with one of the dust covers smashed. I used an old one, but it seems a poor way to ship.

One of the easiest brake jobs you'll have to do. Squirt a little WD40 on old nuts, or something similar, and let sit a while. Disconnect wires, undo nuts, pull assembly off. Put new assembly on, make sure they are on correct side( it matters, watch video). I ordered the nut and lock washer set, just to be sure. These came with just the nut, so you could get the washers separately. Tighten nuts to proper torque, as stated in directions, connect wires, and done. I also ordered the plug kit for adjustment window. You need two per side. These did come with them, but good for me that I ordered more, as one arrived chopped in half. Can't knock points off for that.

I built a utility trailer with my son from a 10K weigh capacity boat trailer and wanted to finish it properly. Bearings, hubs and drums arent an area to skimp on when building a trailer but where does a person find the RIGHT replacement parts. My local hardware and big box stores offer off brand replacement parts but of what quality and I'm still guessing as to proper replacement. I called etrailer and boy am I glad I had a micrometer handy. Their customer service walked me through all measurements and I'm assured the best quality products that will stand the test of time. I am grateful for their expertise and assured of quality. Thank you

Did a complete 4-wheel brake replacement on my 2010 Springdale 26', 5th-wheel. OEM Dexter drums and OEM Dexter Never-Adjust Electric Brake Kit. Spoke with etrailer rep and confirmed correct parts for my rig. Ordering was easy and delivered free in 4 days. Used the 4-days to remove old parts, clean under rig, maintenance to slide-out, etc. much easier with tires out of the way. Parts arrived and about 8 hours of work, it's all back together. Can't tell you if it works because we have not taken a trip yet. COVID19 puts a damper on traveling. But a good time to do deferred maintenance.

I called etrailer with little knowledge of the parts I needed for my project. I changed my boat trailer from old surge hydraulic brakes to electric. With the expert help of Bryan W. Very helpful over the phone ordering the correct break assemblys. The breaks arrived a day early so I was able to install them before I left for work which was nice. OTR Driver! Installing complete assemblys helped make the job faster and knowing I have all new parts vs just break shoes helps to insure me I'll have long life with the breaks on my trailer! The fit was great and new nuts were provided to mount the back plate to the axle! Very happy with the entire process from ordering to completion of the install! When needed will order again from etrailer! Thanks!

Everything was perfect. Should put a reminder under the hubs listing that you need two if you are buying a brake kit. Idiot me didn’t think about that after staring at the brake kit and only ordered one hub.

High quality parts and easy to install. Just follow the instructions on how to set/adjust the brakes after install. It would help greatly if the wires coming out of the brake kit were color-coded.

  • Should I Use 10 or 12 Inch Brakes on a Trailer with 3,500 Pound Axles and 16 Inch Rims
Brakes are designed to fit the hubs that fit the axles not the rims. So you want to stick with 3,500 pound, 10 inch brakes like the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust, part # 23-468-469. Larger 12 inch brakes won't fit your hubs. It is more common to see 15 inch rims on a 3,500 pound axle but a long as your bolt pattern matches and you have the clearance 16 inch rims can work. But even the larger rims use the same size brakes because they're using the same size hubs.

  • Can Parking Brake Be Added To Electric Trailer Brakes Not Equipped With Parking Brake Feature
We do have electric brakes that come with the parking brake. I recommend part # K23-086-00 for the left hand(driver side). For the passenger side you can use part # K23-087-00. A parking brake cannot be added to the # 23-468-469 brake assembly you asked about.
