Quick Tip: There's really not a whole lot to getting new drum brakes. If you've confirmed that all of the specs listed above line up with what you need for your trailer, you can be pretty sure these will work for you.
With standard electric brake assemblies, you need to manually adjust them every now and then to make sure you're getting the shortest stopping distance every time you tow.
With self-adjusting brakes, though, you'll always have peak stopping power - simple as that! As the brake pads wear over time, a tensioning cable will automatically keep the pads in alignment so they'll consistently make contact with your drum when you brake. You won't have to do tedious manual adjustments anymore.
Dexter invests a lot of resources to ensure that these brakes meet the requirements for certification set by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). Basically, a CSA certification tells you that these trailer brakes are well-built and safe for use on the road.
Once you get these brakes installed, you'll need to break them in. First, find a long stretch of road or a big, empty parking lot. Once you're there, set your brake controller to its maximum setting and get moving. Speed up to about 40 mph and brake to slow to about 20 mph. Repeat this 15-30 times. The goal is to get the brake shoes and magnet properly seated into your drum. You'll know you've done that when it feels less jerky (and more consistent) each time you apply the brakes.
Note: The brakes will be very hot after doing this, so after every 10 stops you'll want to wait about 10 minutes to let the brakes cool off before continuing. If you don't, you might cook and crack the pad material.

Everything fit properly and installation went smoothly. All needed parts were included, which was nice. The self-adjust worked well and break-in was quick.
I've only put about 1500 miles on the trailer since install, so I can't speak to longevity.
I'd buy them again though.
Quality is top notch. Instructions were clear and installation went without a hitch. Delivery was actually a day early which was great.

Great no issues putting it on trailer
Ordered new Dexter brakes and hubs for my 5th wheel trailer. Kurt provided exceptional customer service, working with me to ensure I was ordering the correct parts. Everything arrived on time and fit perfectly. Very pleased with the assistance, service and follow up by etrailer.
I have been running these brake assemblies in my 14' dump trailer for a year now. I've logged somewhere close to 5K miles on the trailer carrying loads that sometimes had me thinking I'm glad to have G-rated tires on there!. I have not had to adjust them manually in any way and they have performed flawlessly. I won't even think about putting anything else on my trailers.
Came right when they said it would and the install was supper easy. Hardest part was getting the old parts off. No issues whatsoever, I highly recommend using the Dexter Self-adjusting brakes. See the before and after photos. Etrailer is the place to buy your products.

Parts arrived well packaged and sooner than expected. Easy install and quality parts. Break in was a little tough to get done by manufacture steps but completed and the new brakes seem fine. Little pricy but seem ok right now.

They were very easy to install and are working great. I have about 50,000 miles on them now and will need to recheck soon.

After one year the brakes are working as expected. I really like the way they self adjust.

Good product. Had to reset a couple assemblies that may have come apart during shipping. The big box of loose heavy parts doesn’t work well. All else is great.
Also, I paid for early 3 day shipping and they arrived in 7 days. Will ask for refund of extra shipping costs.

Very easy to swap these new assemblies onto the trailer. Remove the five nuts, pull-off old assembly assembly and you're ready to install new brakes. Not having to pull the individual components off as is done on a car makes this a snap. Looking forward to see how well self-adjustment feature really works.
Best replacement brake assembly for dexter 7k axles! Never thought my mammoth trailer could stop so well.

I wanted genuine Dexter made in the USA parts that were the same as on my RV, Never-Adjust, and that is what I got. Little disappointed they were back ordered from etrailer, but ordered another set through [online store] and got them in a few days. etrailer I had to wait 2 weeks. Now I have spares in case I need them on short notice.

Update 1024. We did a 7k mile trip this summer and the brakes were trouble free. Probably about 10k since install now. Id buy them again.
