Quick Tip: There's really not a whole lot to getting new drum brakes. If you've confirmed that all of the specs listed above line up with what you need for your trailer, you can be pretty sure these will work for you.
The more miles you put on your trailer, the more your brake pads will wear down. As they lose contact with the drum, stopping distances get longer and longer. To keep your brakes working great, it's important to adjust them pretty routinely. For this job, grab a floor jack and either a brake adjustment tool (sold separately) or just a standard flathead screwdriver.
Jack up your trailer enough to get the wheel(s) off the ground. Remove the adjuster plugs from the backing plate on the brake, and insert the flat end of the tool through the back of the assembly.
Push in on the star gear and lift it up. Keep doing this until the brake pads catch on your drum. When you can't spin your wheel by hand anymore, back the gear off by about 10 clicks by pushing down on the star gear. Does the wheel now spin freely (even if it sounds like the brake pads drag slightly on the drum)? Great! Then you're all done with that one and ready to adjust the rest.
After you get these brakes installed and adjusted, you'll need to break them in. First, find a long stretch of road or a big, empty parking lot. Once you're there, set your brake controller to its maximum setting and get moving. Speed up to about 40 mph and brake to slow to about 20 mph. Repeat this 15-30 times. The goal is to get the brake shoes and magnet properly seated into your drum. You'll know you've done that when it feels less jerky (and more consistent) each time you apply the brakes.
Note: The brakes will be very hot after doing this, so after every 10 stops you'll want to wait about 10 minutes to let the brakes cool off before continuing. If you don't, you might cook and crack the pad material.

Made in the USA.Unfortunately I am not too happy with these electric brakes. I only get to use this trailer twice a year for an ATV trip. The same failure has happened twice now with these magnets on the brake shoe. Ultimately what happens is the wire which is molded into the magnet breaks. I can’t figure out what exactly is causing the problem. Either there is too much vibration as the brakes come to a final stop or the little clip holding the magnet onto the shoe lever is popping out and allowing the magnet to rotate. First time this happened it was one broken wire connected to the magnet. Now this second time it is both wires going into the magnet are cut clean away at connection point to the magnet. I am not pleased with the situation. I have spent more time driving without the trailer brakes working on each trip than with them actually working. I feel the two weak points with this design are the small weak sizing of the wire and the cheap fidgety clip that hold the magnet in place. I have one more set of spare shoes and magnets left to try get these brakes working correctly. I was afraid this was going to happen and bought spare magnets last year.
etrailer service was great! Very nice staff members and professional. The product I purchased is great quality but appears to not fit my trailer properly. It was my second purchase (first one was a different vendor that sold Dexter parts) but both products did not seem to properly fit itself. It leaves a 1/4” gap exposing the pads to the elements. I relieved as much tension off the pads to slide the drum over the pads but still did not completely enclose.
I believe the overall quality of the products is high. I was very disappointed in the packaging. Upon arrival I opened a large box that contained 2 boxes with a hub assembly in each. There was a piece of cardboard that separated the two boxes and meant to keep the boxes from sliding back and forth in the large box. However that divider was not secured allowing the 2 boxes to slide back and forth and caused damage to several pieces of my order. I would have rated excellent if not for the packaging and now having to wait for replacement items.
etrailer products and service are excellent! With their helpful videos and staff (plus a little help from Curt Manufacturing and our teardrop trailer manufacturer (CampInn)) I was able to install electric brakes on the trailer, and a controller in my vehicle by myself. I had never installed electric brakes before. Everything works perfectly!
Put them on my Triton dual tandem jet ski trailer to provide a little stopping power rather than the constant slam forward and back on the hitch receiver. I have them mounted on the front axle with 13” rims, setup works exactly how I expected.
Thanks brakes work good again off to the woods now!!

So fare the brakes have been working great.thanks for help getting my camper stoped.
A couple minor things to point out but overall I am very satisfied with the form, fit, and function of these brakes: 1) Be aware if you chose to shorten the wires, stripping them is not easy. The insulation appears to be molded over and in-between the wire strands. 2) I installed these onto a Flexiride torsion axle and the new mounting studs are shorter than the ones I was replacing. After installing and torquing the nuts they were barely flush with the studs. Regarless, I recommend using Permatex threadlocker.
Perfect match! The brakes work excellent! Great product. My original brakes were the exact ones and they lasted me eight years with no troubles.

Excellent! I use my trailer all the time, the brakes work awesome.
I purchased the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit, the Drum assembly, a Draw Tite controller, and the install kit. An upgrade to my newly purchased camper which came with no brakes. All parts were of high quality, well packaged and arrived in excellent condition. Customer support was first class, taking me through the purchase process item by item assuring I had all items necessary for this task.
Instructions were good, but I recommend checking the etrailer.com online version for more detail. No issues at all installing the new equipment. High marks for etrailer.com. Performance is very good.

After one year and over 2000 miles of use, no problems at all. Again, high marks.
Perfect fit
Perfect fit for my 1995 Rockwood pop up camper.
I specifically asked the customer service rep through etrailers chat program if there were 4 sets in this package. I was told there were. I only received two. If etrailer saves the chat records they will see I am correct. Extremely dissatisfied.

Gosh, that is frustrating. I have already sent your information along to our customer service team to get this straightened out. Thanks for letting us know so that we have a chance to make it right!
Great quality and easy to install , I would recommend these replacement brakes to anyone needing to replace their trailer brakes and did I mention low price for made in the USA !

Easy to install and works great , would buy again !
I installed this equipment on my pop up camper to resolve a brake rumble problem. It turns out my old parts did not include a double lip seal. When I would grease the bearings through the EZ lube axle, the grease got past the seal and into the brake drum, causing the rumbling when I would hit the brakes. The double lip seal from etrailer solved that problem. A double lip seal is highly recommended with an EZ lube axle. Thanks etrailer!
I had these ordered from another supplier that did not have inventory and did not know when their shipment would arrive. I had a trailer torn apart and needed to finish it. etrailer had the parts, shipped them immediately, and the job is complete and the customer is happy. Thanks etrailer!!

Great. I was redoing a 4 place snowmobile trailer. New lights, wiring, brakes and hubs. Trailer is like new thanks to your parts.
The service you guys provided is great. Dexter brakes can use improvement though. I'm sure I'm not the first one to notice. The drum/ bearings/ seal package had the seal bent some from the way it was packaged using plastic wrap. I straightened it out and used it - it will be fine. Hopefully the brakes will work well. Thank you and God bless.
I have a Triton ATV trailer and a hunting cabin in the mountains of WVA. Years of travel to the area did a number on the brakes because we cross a creek several times on the way in. Your replacement brakes were a great product, easy to install, work great , and were very reasonably priced. I'm very satisfied with the product.
On the first order for trailer brakes, I did not consult the etrailer professsionls, and had order the wrong size brake assemblies. They arrived quickly, it soon became obviously that I had messed up. I called etrailer, talked with a representative about returning part, got a shipping lablel out in email to mail the parts back for a refund. Talk with a sales person to order and get the size that is needed for my trailer with about a week turnaround time. Pleasant service, timely delivery, and good selection of parts at reasonable prices.
Excellent service and product! Placed order around noon and it showed delivery in about 5 days, which was good. Got notified that evening it was processed and SHIPPED! Received it exactly 48 hours after I placed the order. Now that’s what you call service! Ordered electric brakes and drums for a 2000lb axle, on a 1994 Jayco King pop-up trailer. Converting it from a hydraulic to electric brake system. The parts fit perfectly. Thank you for the service. Loved your videos on installing and pairing the brake units and drums to use, very helpful. I will definitely be ordering from eTrailer in the future.
Factory Dexter parts for my snowmobile traile that include the backing plate nuts/ lock washers and rubber plugs. Shipment was received in a few days. Price was significantly cheaper than from other companies (which don't include the fasteners).
After receiving the correct parts for my trailer ( ordered the wrong parts and contacted customer service that did an excellent job helping me out!!! Got the correct parts) over all experiences, installation is straight forward, customer service is excellent and professional!!
Kits were fairly easy to install and seem to work fine so far.

No issues. Brakes are working fine.
Everything is good
First shipment had a poorly assembled RH Brake assembly. After making a call and sending some pics, customer service promptly sent out a replacement. No complaints from me. Manufacturing defects happen. Customer service was awesome!
Product description and dimensions were as described. Easy to install and adjust. Appreciated the labeling of right and left side. Interior packaging of parts was also helpful.

It is unusual that this is happening with the brakes. I would like to ask a question before I reach out to the manufacturer. How tight are the wires when attached to the trailer wires? The brake and the ground wires. Have you notice the brake clip being out of place when you look at the brakes?
