Video Transcript for Feature Breakdown: Hayes/AL-KO Hydraulic Brake Kit

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Hayes/Alko 12 1/4 inch hydraulic drum brake assemblies for 9,000 to 12,000 pound axles, and it's for a quantity of two assemblies. Now, these hydraulic drum brake assemblies are designed for use with surge type trailer brake actuators. These assemblies have the dual servo design, which means it has the dual plunger wheel cylinder here. Delivers the same amount of braking or driving either forward or in reverse. All the mounting hardware is included. The five nuts to install this onto your brake mounting. These parts are made in the USA. Application for these is fits most standard hub and drum assemblies including Dexter, Limpert, and Alko/Hayes.A configuration.

Now, a lot brake assemblies will have a left hand and a right hand side. But in this case, actually these are the same assembly so you can use either one on either side. You just install one on your driver's side, one on your right hand side, and it can be either one. They do not have a direction. The dimensions on the brakes are 12 1/4 inch diameter by three and a half inches wide. And that measurement the diameter would be 12 1/4 measured from this brake shoe to this brake shoe.

So there's your 12 1/4. And then the width would be the width of the pad on the shoe. There's your three and a half inches wide. We had mentioned the mounting flange bolt pattern that this bolts to you can see is a five bolt design. Now the wheel size that will fit on these assemblies is a 16 inch or larger. And again, they are designed for axles rated 9,000 pounds to 12,000 pounds. But that should do it for the review on the Hayes/Alko 12 1/4 hydraulic drum brake assemblies for 9,000 to 12,000 pound axles for a quantity of two..

  • How To Determine Correct Brake Assemblies For A Tandem 10K Axle Gooseneck Trailer
Yes you can absolutely send a couple pictures in, however more importantly you're going to need to know the inside diameter of your hub, and take note of the mounting flange pattern. Since you already know your axles capacity, that takes one variable away, but you'll need to find the other two values as well in order to get the correct assemblies. For instance, the Hayes/AL-KO Hydraulic Brake Kit # K23-524-00-2 are for 9,000 to 12,000lbs axles, measure 12-1/4" x 3-1/2" wide, this would...

  • Trailer Brake Replacement For Hayes 6 Bolt 10k Axle
Based on your picture and my research it appears that you may have a 6 bolt pattern mounting flange but will only use 5 bolts to attach. With that being said, a 12 1/4" diameter, 3 1/2" wide hydraulic brake assembly replacement would be the Hayes/AL-KO Hydraulic Brake Kit - Duo Servo # K23-524-00-2. This will fit a 16" wheels or larger, up to 17 1/2".

  • Recommended Electric Trailer Brakes With Haynes/AL-KO 5 Bolt Brake Mounting Flange Pattern
You are correct that there are two different 5 bolt brake mounting flange bolt patterns, but I recommend re measuring your drums as they should be either 12" or 12'1/4". You will want to measure your current drums according to the included diagram. The Hayes/AL-KO Hydraulic Brake Kit - Duo Servo - 12-1/4" - Left Hand/Right Hand - 9K to 12K # K23-524-00-2 use the larger 5 bolt pattern as shown in the included diagram, but are designed for 9000-12000lb axles and use a 12-1/4" drum. If this...

  • Correct Braking Assemblies for Haynes Axle with 6 Bolts
The larger Haynes Axles did in fact have a 6 bolt brake mounting flange but the braking assemblies actually only uses five bolts to attach. Therefore, the Hayes/AL-KO Hydraulic Brake Assembly part # K23-524-00 is very what you need. That said, you would need to order a quantity of two in order to cover both sides of the axle as the above part is one for one assembly. If you want to buy both you can simply order two of the above or go with the Hayes/AL-KO Hydraulic Brake Kit part # K23-524-00-2. I...

  • Solution for Needing Replacement Brakes/Trailer Hubs for Trailer with Mobile Home Axles
Mobile home axle parts are considered one time use and are not able to be replaced with standard trailer parts so you'd be looking at having to replace the axles. I'd need the distance between the spring centers of your current axle as well as the distance from hub face to hub face and I'd be able to pick out the correct axle for your application. You'll also need the bolt pattern of the wheels you have to pick out which I attached a help article on determining. I also attached a link...

  • Replacement Electric Brakes For A 10,000 Pound Trailer Axle

  • Replacement Braking Assemblies for a 10,000 Lb Trailer Axle
The correct replacement braking assembly for your trailer should be either the Hayes/AL-KO Hydraulic Brake Kit part # K23-524-00-2 or the Dexter Hydraulic Drum Brake Kit part # 23-410-411. If you take a look for a tag on the center of the axle that should tell you the manufacturer and weight capacity. If not you would need to inspect the brake mounting flange and size of the assembly. The Dexter assembly uses a 7 bolt brake mounting flange and is 12-1/4" diameter x 3-3/8" wide (see photo...

  • Can 12 Inch Hub Drums for Electric Brakes Be Used With Hydraulic Brake Assemblies
If they're still in serviceable condition, you can indeed continue to use your existing hub/drums. Assuming you have a 5 bolt brake flange, and the inside diameter and depth of your existing brake drums is 12-1/4 inches and 3-1/2 inches respectively, the Dexter # K23-524-00-2 would work perfectly.

  • Will The Hayes/AL-KO Brakes # K23-524-00-2 Work With A Hydrastar Electric/Hydraulic Actuator
Yes, When installing The Hayes/AL-KO Hydraulic Brake Kit # K23-524-00-2 you can use a hydrastar electric over hydraulic actuator to help operate the brakes. I would recommend The Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Drum Brakes # HBA-12. I recommend this kit over the other kits because it has a faster response time and the trailer brakes are triggered when you apply the brakes in the tow vehicle. I attached a review video link below.

  • Correct Replacement Braking Assemblies for an Older Hayes AL-KO 12K Axle
I am assuming you're looking for a replacement braking assembly for your older Hayes AL-KO axle. If so, you're going to just need the Hayes/AL-KO Hydraulic Brake Kit - Duo Servo - 12-1/4" # K23-524-00-2 or just # K23-524-00 for one assembly. You mention that you have a 6-bolt mounting flange, and while it's true the older Hayes axles had 6-bolt flanges it only actually used 5 to mount. If you're also needing replacement inner/outer bearings as well as an oil seal, you can use # 28580...

  • Can the Hubs Be Reused When Switching from Electric to Hydraulic Brakes On An AL-KO 10K Axle
Generally speaking, you can reuse the hubs when switching from electric to hydraulic brakes or vice versa. There is no difference in the hub but you do need to be sure the braking assemblies are the same size. The Hayes/AL-KO Hydraulic Brake Kit part # K23-524-00-2 is my recommendation for hydraulic drum brakes and should work with your existing hubs no problem just be sure to verify the size of the drum and make sure it's 12-1/4" x 3-1/2". • axle
The problem with mobile home axles is that they are intended for one time use and they don't have replacement parts made for them. So there aren't any options you have to get modern components on your trailer except for an all new axle or have new spindles welded to axle.
