Disc Brakes

More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Disc brakes deliver consistent braking - even at highway speeds - unlike drum brakes, which often show a substantial drop in braking torque at higher speeds. In addition, disc brakes offer a substantially shorter stopping distance than drum brakes. Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, rather than the many found in drum brakes. This means that there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged and fewer parts to have to repair or replace, thus reducing maintenance costs.

Over-the-Hub Rotors for Easy Replacement

Slip-on, cast iron rotor makes it easy to convert an idler axle to a disc brake axle. Simply place the rotor over your hub. It is most often wheel bolt piloted for a loose fit and then held in place by the wheel itself. With a separate rotor and hub, you can easily repair or replace one element of your brake system without having to junk the whole thing.

The rotor is made from cast iron, matching SAE specifications. Cast iron is ideal for high-temperature operations and offers a favorable friction coefficient to ensure adequate stopping power. Rotors are vented to effectively dissipate heat, dramatically reducing the incidence of heat-related damage.

  • How To Add Disc Brakes To a High-Tech Marine Triple Axle Trailer
The HydraStar Disc Brake Kit w/ Actuator for Triple Axle Trailers part # HSE7K-TR1SO is an excellent option to add disc brakes to a triple axle trailer. The 14125A outer bearing tells me you have a 5,200 lb to 7,000 lb axle so the above kit should work just fine. That said, in order to prevent any potential issues with the hub lining up with the rotor, the part # HSE7K-TR1 would be a safer bet.

  • Triple Axle Disc Brake Conversion Kit
The HydraStar Disc Brake Kit item # HSE7K-TR1SO is designed for trailers with 7K axles and an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern. This conversion kit would work great on your 42 1/2 foot travel trailer. If you need new hubs with the brake kit you will want the HydraStar Disc Brake Kit with Actuator for Triple Axle Trailers - 13" Hub/Rotor # HSE7K-TR1. This kit comes with bearings, races, and seals so you won't be needing to purchase those separately.

  • What is the Difference Between the HSE7K-TRI and HSE7K-TR1SO
The difference between these two kits is that the # HSE7K-TR1 comes with a complete hub and rotor that replaces your existing hub, where the # HSE7K-TR1SO is only the rotor which slips over your existing hubs. The hub that is included with the # HSE7K-TR1 requires that your current hubs use inner bearing # 25580 and outer bearing # 14125A, so if your hubs have different bearings using the rotor only kit would be the best option. You will want to confirm that you've already got idler hubs...

  • Parts to Convert 2017 Grand Design Momentum 376TH to Electric Over Hydraulic Disc Brake
Thanks for the picture of your axle sticker. From that I can tell that your 2017 Grand Design Momentum 376TH has 7k axles which is exactly what the HydraStar Disc brake kit part # HSE7K-TR1 was designed to fit so it would work great on your trailer and with your 2016 Ford F-350 brake controller that has hydraulic mode.

  • Hanger Kit to Be Used with Triple Axle Dexter EZ Flex K71-657-00
Yes the hanger kit part # APTT5 would work well with the Dexter EZ Flex part # K71-657-00 that you mentioned as well. The 3-1/4 inch height of all of the equalizers would work great without any issue.

  • Correct HydraStar Disc Brake Kit for 50' Kaufman Car Hauler Trailer
The HydraStar Disc Brake Kit is designed for trailers with 7K axles and an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern so if this is what you have it will work well. That said, if you have hub/drums now you'll also need new idler hubs, the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly part # 8-231-9UC1-EZ.

  • Electric Over Hydualic Disc Brake Setup for 2020 Grand Design Momentum 376THS
The HydraStar Disc Brake Kit w/ Actuator for Triple Axle Trailers - 13" Rotor - 8 on 6-1/2 - 7K # HSE7K-TR1SO will work great on your 2020 Grand Design Momentum 376THS with 7k triple axles but this is a slip on kit so you will need idler hubs as well and then you'd be set. For a grease hub you'd just need 6 of the part # 8-231-9UC1-EZ and you'd be set. The Hydrastar rotors will slip right over these hubs.

  • Determining Which HydraStar Disc Brake Kit Fits 2017 Grand Design Momentum W/ Triple Axles
I would be happy to help you determine which disc brake kits fits your 2017 Grand Design Momentum M399TH Toy Hauler but you will need to first confirm your bearing combination. The easiest way to do this is by removing one of your current hub assemblies and checking the face of both the inner and outer bearings for a stamped bearing number as shown in the included picture of the # L44649. If your bearings are worn to the point that you cannot read the bearing numbers then you will need...

  • Difference Between HydraStar Disc Brake Kit HSE7K-TR1 & HSE7K-TR1SO for 7K Triple-Axles
The difference between the two HydraStar Disc Brake Kits with Actuator for Triple Axle Trailers is that one comes with a complete hub-and-rotor assembly while the other is just the slip-on rotors without the hubs. What that means is that if you need new hubs with the brake kit you will want the HydraStar Disc Brake Kit with Actuator for Triple Axle Trailers - 13" Hub/Rotor # HSE7K-TR1. If your hubs are in fine shape and you just want the kit with the slip-on rotors you will want the HydraStar...

The D100G axles on your 2016 Diamond C trailer are 10,000 lb axles. Based on the manufacture date you need the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 11" Rotor - 8 on 6-1/2 - E-Coat Finish - Leaf Spring - 10,000-lb Dexter # K2R1058D11E which fits the # 008-430-03 hub made after May 2013.
