Disc Brakes are Better Than Drum Brakes

More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Unlike drum brakes, disc brakes deliver consistent braking, even at highway speeds. Disc brakes also offer a substantially shorter stopping distance. Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, so there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged, and fewer parts to have to repair or replace.

Video Transcript for Review of Hydrastar Trailer Brakes - Tandem Axle Disc Brake Kit with Actuator - HYD44VR

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the Hydrastar disc brake kit with the electric over hydraulic brake actuator, and this is for a tandem 6,000-pound trailer axles that have a six on five and a half inch bolt pattern. Now more and more people are switching your trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Unlike your drum brakes, these disc brakes here will deliver consistent braking even at highway speeds. The disc brakes also offer a substantially shorter stopping distance, and the disc brake calipers right here, they basically have only one moving part. So there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged, and fewer parts to have to repair or replace.

This kit here is everything you can see on the table. It's an all-inclusive kit, has everything you need to switch your trailer over to disc brakes for improved performance, greater stopping power. This one will include four disc brake end kits for two axles. The hub and rotor assemblies right here have the half-inch diameter wheel studs, and on the inside, they have the pre-installed bearing braces. This also includes the inner bearings, the outer bearings, all the grease seals you need.

We mentioned the calipers. They'll come with the brake pads and the installation bolts. And if you notice we have 'em attached to the caliper mounting brackets already that are designed to attach to a five bolt brake mounting flange. Now we mentioned there are Dako matte coated finish on 'em and it's on the hub and rotors, the calipers, the caliper mounting brackets, and that Dako matte coating is corrosion resistant, so it makes great for marine applications. Now one thing I do wanna mention is the Hydrastar, this is a Hydrastar electric over hydraulic brake actuator.

This is designed to activate your trailer brakes when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle. It does install on your trailer frame, and you can see it will connect to your trailer's wiring. It does come with the brake lines that you need, and it'll create a nice, smooth even braking with a fast response time, works in most, and it will work with most in-cab brake controllers. Now the brake line kit, we just zoom back out here. You can see it'll include the solid brake lines over here, the flexible brake lines, and all the fittings you need for your tandem axel trailers.

Now we do list on the product page of this product all of the part numbers and information that you might need, that it all are included with this kit. Again, the specs, the application, this is for tandem axel trailers with 6,000 pound axles, bolt pattern of six on five and a half inches, rotor diameter of 12 inches, and as we mentioned, the wheel stud diameter on this is a half an inch. But that should do it for a look at the Hydrastar disc brake kit with the electric over hydraulic brake actuator for tandem 6,000-pound trailer axles.

  • How to Determine if DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit With EOH Actuator is Right For Trailer Axle
Hey Guy, While I can't answer that directly as I don't know what axles you have, I can tell you how to figure out if the right kit for you is the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit w/ Actuator for Tandem Axle Trailers # DE66AR. What it comes down to is knowing the bearing numbers; you will need to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. If you are unable to find them, you...
