Quick Tip: There's really not a whole lot to getting new drum brakes. If you've confirmed that all of the specs listed above line up with what you need for your trailer, you can be pretty sure these will work for you.
The pads on these trailer brakes are made of the same friction material that you might find on a car's drum brakes. In fact, the material is SAE-N certified. So, not only does it provide high-performance braking, but it's environmentally friendly, too! With these brakes, your trailer will be good to go on any road throughout the United States and Canada.
The superior quality of these pads is also due to the fact that they're bonded to the shoes, not just nailed down. Riveted brake pads will always give you a screeching reminder to replace your brake shoes. That's because the rivets will scrape against your drum as the friction material wears down. You won't have that noisy problem with bonded brake pads. You'll also get a little more friction pad contact because there aren't any cutouts for rivets. And more friction means more stopping power.
These pads are also tapered, which should help to prevent any broken, crumbly bits of material from rotating inside the drum as the pads wear over time. Brakes without these tapers are more likely to create a jarring braking experience that could cause the brakes to stutter and lock up.
The more miles you put on your trailer, the more your brake pads will wear down. As they lose contact with the drum, stopping distances get longer and longer. To keep your brakes working great, it's important to adjust them pretty routinely. For this job, grab a floor jack and either a brake adjustment tool (sold separately) or just a standard flathead screwdriver.
Jack up your trailer enough to get the wheel(s) off the ground. Remove the adjuster plugs from the backing plate on the brake, and insert the flat end of the tool through the back of the assembly.
Push in on the star gear and lift it up. Keep doing this until the brake pads catch on your drum. When you can't spin your wheel by hand anymore, back the gear off by about 10 clicks by pushing down on the star gear. Does the wheel now spin freely (even if it sounds like the brake pads drag slightly on the drum)? Great! Then you're all done with that one and ready to adjust the rest.
A lot of resources have been invested to ensure that these brakes meet the requirements for certification set by the QAI and CSA . Basically, these certifications tell you that these trailer brakes are well built and safe for use on the road. They've been tested for braking performance under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday tower.
After you get these brakes installed and adjusted, you'll need to break them in. First, find a long stretch of road or a big, empty parking lot. Once you're there, set your brake controller to its maximum setting and get moving. Speed up to about 40 mph and brake to slow to about 20 mph. Repeat this 15-30 times. The goal is to get the brake shoes and magnet properly seated into your drum. You'll know you've done that when it feels less jerky (and more consistent) each time you apply the brakes.
Note: The brakes will be very hot after doing this, so after every 10 stops you'll want to wait about 10 minutes to let the brakes cool off before continuing. If you don't, you might cook and crack the pad material.

order arrived packing suxs springs and clips loose within the wrapping paper one brake adjuster was not attached and was loose floating around within the assy. throw away the magnet clips order the clips for the 10" ,dosent come with nuts to attach order 7/16-20 stainless steel nuts not a common thread size.
Brake assemblies seem fine, but they don't come with the mounting nuts! You have to purchase them separately. Others have pointed this out only to have an "e-expert" reply with a link to the mounting hardware and an implied "Duh!" So let me do their job for them, here is what should be in the product description- "BRAKE ASSEMBLIES DO NOT INCLUDE THE 8 FINE THREAD 7/16THS NUTS NEEDED FOR THE PRODUCT TO FUNCTION. YOU HAVE TO PURCHASE A SEPARATE PRODUCT TO HAVE A COMPLETE PRODUCT. UNLESS OF COURSE YOU WANT TO GET ELBOWS DEEP INTO YOUR PROJECT ONLY TO DISCOVER YOU HAVE TO STOP EVERYTHING AND GO TO LOWES TO GET 8 NUTS AND WASHERS."
Good Grief
Did not work for my application, but I was able to return. Easy to return.
I installed a set of these a few months ago and they have worked as good as the OEM set.
Unfortunately, they have not improved the spring & clip design to hold the electromagnet in place. A simple hole drilled into the end of the retaining bar with a cotter pin would keep the magnet properly in place on rough roads.
Purchased electric brakes for a camper. Good price
Easy instructions seem to work fine.
First purchase but not the last. Got them super quick and fit perfectly. Linda was awsome and a true asset for the company. I'd recommend E-Trailer to everyone for any and all trailer needs.
Perfect fit and high quality
Ridiculously horrible packing job resulted in damaged parts. The Post Office tried to salvage the box that was getting pounded apart because the person who "packed' the parts just threw the parts together in a padded envelope and then tossed that in a much larger box with no further packing, so the 9 lb. of parts just banged together and banged the shipping box apart. See photos of what post office did to try and salvage the box.
I replaced the original hydraulic brakes and hubs on a Jayco popup trailer. The electric brake and hub Assemblies are excellent and were an easy install. Haven't used the trailer during the Covid pandemic, but hope to soon.
Fast shipping
Fast response, Excellent products.
These brakes squeal horribly. I have adjusted them, cleaned them, tried heavy force, light force adjusting all the way out and all the way in. They just make the trailer sound horrible. I actually try to not use the brakes because of the way they sound. Bad Bad Bad

Thank you for your review! Regarding the sound coming from your brakes, there are a couple of things that may be the cause that you can check. One thing is to see if your brake pads are worn down, and another thing would be to check the hubs. You said the brakes were clean, but the inside of the hubs can be giving you trouble if they arent cleaned as well. Hopefully this helps you out!

I replaced these brakes with higher quality one from etrailer- new ones are great! These cheaper brakes squeaked from day one. I tried many adjustments all the way in all the way out cleaning nothing helped I replace them with a good quality set the squeaking immediately went away these cheap brakes are junk.
I installed these brakes on my trailer a year ago and they still perform great. I repacked the bearings just now after the first year and observed the brakes still appear in good working order. However there are two items to remain attentive to. First, these brakes were shipped poorly. They were just thwon in a box without packing, so they tossed and banged their whole way here. Second, when you receive these brakes simpley throw away the retaining clip for the magnet. It doesn't hold worth a lick, you can replace the clip with BP19-001 which fits great even though advertised for 10" and 12" brakes. Good luck.
Easy site navigation, straight-forward ordering process, fast shipping.
Package arrived completely destroyed, no packing materials to speak of. Wheel bearing sets were open and rolling around loose in what was left of the box. Electric breaks were damaged and parts of them loose in the box, I have no idea as to why none of the smaller pieces didn't fall out during shipping. I was able to repair the break parts. This company has all the trademarks of a 3rd party drop shipper. I won't waste my time or money returning the items, as they will only send more damaged [cheap] junk. Shipping is extremely slow and tracking data is all over the planet. My money is better spent elsewhere.
As far as the brakes go, they were a one-to-one replacement with what I had mounts for. Like others have said, it requires bolts and washers so don't forget! Time will tell on longevity, but the shipping was a little bit concerning. The brakes were not in packaging, free floating in the box and had been jostled around.
Purchased as part of all parts required to upgrade a 1996 Jayco to electric brakes. Very pleased with quality of parts and results. Battery still fully charged after winter in storage!
Excellent customer service and fast shipping !
I installed these on my 1995 Jayco 1206
The price and quality of the e brakes I purchased are excellent! Great service from E trailer. 5 stars
Brakes were weak, had to run controller on level 12. Lost two of 4 dust caps on first trip. eTrailer would not replace dust caps. Bought replacement caps elsewhere. I would buy name brand next time.

Manually adjusted electric trailer brakes do require an initial adjustment, and need to be readjusted occasionally. To adjust the brakes, use a brake adjustment tool to turn the starwheel on the adjuster to expand the brake shoes until the wheel is very difficult to turn by hand. Then back off the starwheel in the other direction, about 10 clicks until the brakes drag slightly. Make sure all brake assemblies are adjusted in the same manner. Check out the video see link. Beginning at the 4:23 mark, our installer shows how to adjust your trailer brakes.

Brakes arrived ahead of time. They fit perfectly and were easy to install. I saved the old bolts and they worked fine. Wish I had noticed the hardware kit, new is always nice. Easy to order and customer service knew their stuff. Great Job! I'm sold! Wes H.

Brakes are working great, thanks for the fine product and customer support!
The assembly that I originally received, had weak magnets, and burnishing cannot be successfully accomplished.
Etraier was kind enough to send out replacement magnets..
The whole process established a bit of frustration as a second tear down what is required.
