Quick Tip: There's really not a whole lot to getting new drum brakes. If you've confirmed that all of the specs listed above line up with what you need for your trailer, you can be pretty sure these will work for you.
The pads on these trailer brakes are made of the same friction material that you might find on a car's drum brakes. In fact, the material is SAE-N certified. So, not only does it provide high-performance braking, but it's environmentally friendly, too! With these brakes, your trailer will be good to go on any road throughout the United States and Canada.
The superior quality of these pads is also due to the fact that they're bonded to the shoes, not just nailed down. Riveted brake pads will always give you a screeching reminder to replace your brake shoes. That's because the rivets will scrape against your drum as the friction material wears down. You won't have that noisy problem with bonded brake pads. You'll also get a little more friction pad contact because there aren't any cutouts for rivets. And more friction means more stopping power.
These pads are also tapered, which should help to prevent any broken, crumbly bits of material from rotating inside the drum as the pads wear over time. Brakes without these tapers are more likely to create a jarring braking experience that could cause the brakes to stutter and lock up.
The more miles you put on your trailer, the more your brake pads will wear down. As they lose contact with the drum, stopping distances get longer and longer. To keep your brakes working great, it's important to adjust them pretty routinely. For this job, grab a floor jack and either a brake adjustment tool (sold separately) or just a standard flathead screwdriver.
Jack up your trailer enough to get the wheel(s) off the ground. Remove the adjuster plugs from the backing plate on the brake, and insert the flat end of the tool through the back of the assembly.
Push in on the star gear and lift it up. Keep doing this until the brake pads catch on your drum. When you can't spin your wheel by hand anymore, back the gear off by about 10 clicks by pushing down on the star gear. Does the wheel now spin freely (even if it sounds like the brake pads drag slightly on the drum)? Great! Then you're all done with that one and ready to adjust the rest.
These brake assemblies meet the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. These brake assemblies underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. These brakes have also been tested by QAI for braking performance under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday tower.
After you get these brakes installed and adjusted, you'll need to break them in. First, find a long stretch of road or a big, empty parking lot. Once you're there, set your brake controller to its maximum setting and get moving. Speed up to about 40 mph and brake to slow to about 20 mph. Repeat this 15-30 times. The goal is to get the brake shoes and magnet properly seated into your drum. You'll know you've done that when it feels less jerky (and more consistent) each time you apply the brakes.
Note: The brakes will be very hot after doing this, so after every 10 stops you'll want to wait about 10 minutes to let the brakes cool off before continuing. If you don't, you might cook and crack the pad material.

Product is fine, but they shipped it like crap. Stacked them brake pads together with no padding in between. Only packaging was some paper wrapped poorly around it all. I had to reassemble the units.
One of the left backing plates and one of the right backing plates got messed up in shipping, I think I can repair them but I may be reaching out if I am unable to fix them. the arms that old the magnet fell off and the shoes are not centered on plate
Absolutely great service. I have several trailers, and this will be my first stop for all my trailer needs. I would highly recommend this company to anyone. Highly trained staff very courteous and professional and helpful if you need a little guidance. Product was perfect. Replaced complete prepacked hub assembly and complete electric brake assembly. My trailer is same as new again. Thank you for your help. All my parts worked out great.

Great
The parts were good, price excellent. Unfortunately the parts arrived in a flimsy box (it should have been put into a second box for shipping) that was crushed, the brake actuator was off on one set, both lower adjusters and springs had fallen out and the springs and adjusters were loose in the box and luckily did not fall out.
When I purchased this brake conversion package, I counted on the sales person to ascertain that I had everything needed. I was so disappointed and actually angry when I discovered that the studs on the back side of these brakes did not come with nuts and lock washers and in fact are an odd-ball size & pitch that is quite difficult to find at hardware stores. (7/16"-20) I have a very well stocked shop, containing most common hardware items, but not a single 7/16" bolt or nut...they simply aren't used in the USA to any degree. Hours wasted trying to locate nuts to to fit these studs left me no option but give a 2 star rating.

Oh wow, I have not heard of anyone not finding the seven sixteenth by 20 thread size at a local home improvement store. We do also carry them on site as part # BRKH10B.
I’ve had these a year and I’m not real impressed. They are mounted on a drop axle stock trailer and are difficult but not impossible to adjust (adjustment slot sits behind the drop axle) The braking power of these has never been stellar. I can feel them work, but they are not braking as hard as they should.
I need to contact you concerning the order. This was supposed to be a set of 1 left and 1 right electric brake assemblies but I on recieved 1 box with 2 RH electric brake assemblies and no left hand assemblies. someone messed up in yiur shipping or a package has been lost. also i order 2 sets of 1 LH &1 RH assemblies. I will call in on this next week

Oh, no! I will have our customer service team reach out to you about this. I am sorry we sent you the wrong ones, but we will get you taken care of!
The brake assemblies look to be good quality. I ordered them to add brakes to an idler axle on a tandem axle trailer. The axle had a brake mounting flange, so install was simple. I also used the 10" 5 on 5 drum/hub assembly with pre-greased bearings. I did have one assembly arrive in a damaged condition, but etrailer quickly took care of shipping a replacement and providing a call tag to return the damaged item.
The Electric Trailer Brake Kit worked as advertised. With two thousand miles on the trailer I have excellent braking control. I did readjust the brakes after a few hundred miles and this improved the smoothness and braking control while driving through Arkansas backcountry roads.

The kit continues to perform perfectly
The parts looks like good quality… but they came in the box all mangled up and apart. One of the brake assemblies was missing the screw adjuster sleeve.

After a year of service, the brake kits are doing great. Living in the mountains, they get plenty of use, and I am very happy with my purchase.
Excellent help when I placed my order for camper trailer brakes. All questions and concerns were answered. Shipping was very fast, price was good and there was a lot of communication info during the whole process.
The backing plates could come with nuts on the studs
Parts and instructions were great. Shiping department needs to remember 5graid science class were if you put heavy parts in a box with a little paper they don't do well
The staff at etrailer.com helped me choose the correct brake/axle parts and I received them promptly. After using the trailer brakes extensively for the last year, including a trip to southern Baja, I checked the bearings, seals, and brakes and found them all functioning properly and well within wear limits. I will buy from them again!
One brake is broken and the other brake was the wrong part. The brake plates were packed horribly and the spindle was bouncing around in the box with brake plates.
I ordered brakes for my utility trailer. I have not ordered anything from etrailer in a few years but George spotted my order and upgraded delivery to expedite based on my pervious orders. Beyond the quality of their parts, the quality of their people make this my go to place. Best prices are just gravy on the biscuit.

The brakes are still working well after 1 year. Great quality product.
pleased with the product. easy installation.
works perfectly. would buy again.
Product arrived on time, by the estimated delivery time. I feel that the contents should be better packaged, instead of just placed in a box, with no protection to the parts. Like many others in the review section, one of hand assemblies was not fully installed, so I had to wrestle a spring into place. This seems to be a common trend with the product.
etrailer product was excellent - easy installation with all parts included with quick shipping - happy customer here.
Thanks
Going electric on my boat trailer, it's the right move. Thank-you
PRODUCT FIT WELL AND APPEARS TO BE GOOD QUALITY PACKAGING WAS KIND OF SKIMPY AND ONE OF THE UNITS CAME APART BUT NOTHING CAME OUT OF THE BOX. FILLING THE ORDER TOOK QUITE A LONG TIME BUT UPS SHIPPING SEEMED TIMELY
the parts were of good quality and I received them when promised. I especially liked that I was able to talk to a knowledgeable person on the phone. They helped me verify the proper fit and quality before ordering. Much better than a auto parts store. I've used them before and will again.
Disappointed, ordered these and nuts don't come with. Off to the store I go I guess

Yeah, these brake assemblies do not come with the mounting hardware. We do have it as a kit with nuts and lock washers separately as part # BRKH10B.
