Manual-Adjust Brakes

With repeated use of these brake assemblies, the brake shoes may move out of alignment, causing less efficient braking performance. To keep the brake shoes aligned and the brake assemblies performing correctly, you should perform routine maintenance.

These brake assemblies should be adjusted after installation and then as needed for the life of the brakes. To adjust the brakes, use a brake adjustment screw tool (sold separately) to turn the adjustment gear on the inside of the assemblies. Continue to turn the gear until the drum surrounding the brake catches on the brake pads enough so that the hub can no longer be turned easily by hand. Then reverse the gear by about 10 clicks. A properly adjusted brake should drag slightly on the brake drum.

Thoroughly Tested for Safety

These brake assemblies meet the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. These brake assemblies underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. These brakes have also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Automotive-Grade Friction Material

Each shoe on these brake assemblies is lined with automotive-grade friction material for improved stopping performance and longevity. The friction material is fully bonded onto the surface of the brake shoe. This lining is custom-molded for a perfect fit. The edges are tapered to ensure long-lasting performance. This taper, along with the circular grinding that the lining undergoes, helps to prevent cracking and crumbling. This durability helps to prevent mechanical lockup, which can occur when brake shoes are excessively worn or broken.

The friction material is also SAE-N certified, which means that it is an environmentally safe product that complies with California and Washington regulations regarding the composition of brake pads. As a result, this material not only provides high-performance braking that can endure the test of time, but it is also environmentally friendly and safe for use throughout the United States and Canada.

I did not get a chance to try the brakes because of the condition they arrived in. the brakes where thrown in to a box raw, there was no individual packaging and no padding. The brakes banged around in the box and chipped the brake lining, making them useless. the banging around broke free the springs and pieces where lost through holes in the poorly boxed package. VERY disappointed.

Oh my goodness! I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you.

Brakes look great, but they were packeged by a four year old, resulting in the box being punctured, and the brake parts rattling around, to the extent that two of the four pair arrived missing parts. The springs rattled off, the adjusters rattled out, and parts fell out of the box. To their credit, a return label was issued promptly, and replacements sent right away. But still. Don't they ship items like this every day, hundreds of times a day?

Finally got the brake assemblies installed as part of an overhaul. Went beautifully, beats screwing around with shoes and hardware.

Brakes are working good. Install was easy. Its all good.

@Russell Awesome, we're glad to hear that your # AKEBRK-6 trailer brakes are still working well!

Great affordable brakes. Adjusted them and tested them out and they work great. Using a trailer brake controller in the truck as well and have no complaints yet. Towed about 5k miles on this system so far. I saw a ton of those advertisements for wires that have heat shrink and are waterproof and you don't need to solder. Saying when you apply heat to them, it melts the solder. Tested them out and they actually work great and are waterproof.

It took me a while to get to this project. The parts came much sooner than I expected. I was able to completely overhaul my trailer brakes in about 8 hours or, maybe less. The parts all worked great. The staff was SO very helpful in making sure I got the right parts. I really cant wait to use them again!!!

My order came damaged. I feel you should not have to wait 22 minutes on hold to talk to a customer service person. I have tried calling many times and the wait time is almost the same. I do not have the time to wait. I guess I am going to buy local since the cost wasn’t too different. I guess it is only about the money. There’s no such thing as quality anymore.

I am sorry your order arrive damaged. Customer Service will email you.

First, your representation of the price of the Brake Kit is completely deceptive. The kits for my 2016 Keystone Cougar were represented to be approximately $[XX]. There was no mention or indication that this price was a per axle price. I ordered the kits thinking I would get enough kits for my tandem axle trailer, and only got to kits enough for one axle. That is, to me, deceptive and predatory priceing. If you advertise that these are the kits for a specific trailer, then you should price and ship enough kits to complete the job. Again, I consider your representation of the kits price as deceptive and predatory. I ordered a second set of kits simply because I was in a hurry to complete my brake job...not because I was satisfied. In the future I hope your price reflects to other consumers that the price is per axle, and not enough for specific trailers as I found out.

Second, when I talked with your representative Kate, who was very courteous, she said my order would be delivered on a Wednesday. When I received the email order and shipping confirmation, the delivery date changed to Thursday. When I received the second set of kits, the box was damaged and almost falling apart. Your shipping people did not put padding on both upper and lower parts in the box. As a result, when I received the kits, the adjusting bolt and spring were off of the one set. Had the box opened a little more, the parts would have been lost. The other fact is that I had to personally reinstall the adjuster and spring on to the shoes. More care in packing would have elimited this problem.

Third, I will not purchase anything else from E-brake Co., and I will warn my friends of my problems with you and your predatory pricing structure. My project should have been completed over a week sooner that it is going to be.

The brake kits seem to be of a very good quality. Your business qualities, to me, are not.

Brake kit was cracked and chipped all over. Poor packaging
Wheel hubs were bent.
Tires were good.

I am sorry that the brakes and hubs arrived damaged. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you.

I ordered these to replace the original brakes on my trailer after I started having problems with mine (see details below if interested). They are good quality and were easy to mount and assemble. They definitely made a difference in how well my trailer is braking. I definitely recommend these if they are what you need.

However, I will say that the shipping was delayed by about 4 days. This may not be etrailer's fault, but they use UPS and I've been having horrible luck with UPS's shipping service lately. Everything has been delayed. So just be aware that if you order with the standard ground with UPS these will most likely not arrive on time.

The second problem that I had was that I ordered a set of drum/hub combos to go with these on a separate order. After 2 days of seeing no progress on my order I had to email and call to find out that the order was delayed. There was no update from etrailer without me asking. I ended up having to cancel that order and purchase through a local supplier whom I will likely start using from now on.

To detail the braking problems, I purchased my 2008 Toy Hauler about two months ago. We've towed about 1,200 miles with it so far and I noticed from day one that the brakes weren't as responsive as they should be. As we were entering our neighborhood from our last trip my Tekonsha Prodigy 3 started flashing red and reading that there was a shortage and that I had a brake overload and that there were no brakes. This was fairly spiritic but eventually became constant. Based off of information I found from posts on this site, it seemed like it might be one of the magnets not making sufficient contact with the drum. It seems like this was the case. During my repair, I found that one of my grease seals had blown and grease had gotten into one of the brake assemblies and it looked like that entire hub/assembly/etc. had stopped working properly. After replacing the entire brake assembly, drum/hub, bearings and seals on all four wheels everything is working great! I probably only needed to replace the brake assemblies, but decided that for another $350 I would have peace of mind knowing that everything is at it's best!

Thanks etrailer for the helpful information and quality parts!

The order arrived promptly and in good condition. Unfortunately, after being installed by a professional and adjusted three consecutive times in a row the fifth wheel did not only not improve, but it’s stopping distance increased. We can’t figure out what’s going on but in no way, blame it on etrailer or its products.

The assemblies appear to be of excellent quality parts. However, as I have discussed with Kate, your presentation of the product in your cataloge is deceptive. If the assemblies are for a specific trailer, then the product should reveal wheather or not the assemblies shipped are enough to fully do the job. I thought that if the assemblies are advertised for a tandem axle trailer, then I should receive four assemblies. I received two assemblies, and had to order two more to complete the job. This was very deceptive advertiseing. You should point out in your cataloge, if this price is per axle so people would know to order two sets.

I ordered all 4 electric breaks, had a problem with one of them. A brief phone call later they were sending a new one out. Very good customer service.

Great brakes. Fit was perfect! Shipping was fast. Customer service was awesome! Great to know there is a company out there that cares & is full of information. This is my new “go to” for all my future trailer needs. I dont normally write reviews but felt i had no choice in this case.

Awesome Kit! Fit perfect. 7K axles on equipment trailer

The service from etrailer was excellent. I was told when I ordered that they wouldn't arrive until June but,I received them on 4 May. I haven't installed them yet so I can't review the actual brakes.

The item itself is good, however when the two sets arrived I had three right-hand assemblies and one left. When I inquired with etrailer, I was told that they would ship out an expedited replacement left-hand assembly, however once it shipped it took four business days to arrive and I ended up buying the assembly elsewhere to finish the project on time.

These were exact fit, easy to replace and would definitely recommend. Definitely invest in the brake spoon tool ( bought one with my order) for adjusting these after the wheel is back on. Definitely worth it and etrailer nailed it again. In the photo, the axle on the right is the new brake assembly and the one on the left..... well that is the reason I bought four new brake assemblies!!!!! Thanks.

Still working well. Have not had any issues to date .... knock on wood

Installed the brakes and the magnets were junk from the start have to get new ones and swap them out very very. Cheaply bulit

Where I received the the package. I had to fix the brakes .The adjuster was off and the spring was missing. I have to use the.spring off the old brakes.

Ordered complete brakes and bearings for 8 wheel 16 ton trailer. All mounted up very nicely and I am very pleased with the result. In addition to bearings and brakes I also replaced the lights and added a new 7 pin plug incl a new battery and emergency trailer brake and wirebox. I had never done any of these repairs before, but followed the tutorial videos on e-trailers site. Very happy with result and will recommend e-trailers to anyone that need trailer stuff. Keep up the good work. Thanks.

Good quality good price.

Excellent products were put together well good shape good quality no complaints definitely will be going back there for all my trailer needs!

I'm ecstatic so far. Shipping faster than [online vendor]! Haven't tried to install yet due to weather, but am looking forward to bolting them on and get back in business.
Price seems low for the quality.
I'll let you know.

Good Brakes. Were the proper replacement brakes for my travel trailer. Reasonable to install.

I haven't installed them yet butg the communication was GREAT every step of the way! Thank you. I have purchased from you before and I certainly w9ill again. I will also sing your praises to my friends that have trailers. Thanks you. Bob

Bought new left and right hand drum brake assemblies to replace the ones on my tandem axle 28ft toyhauler that were ruined due to axle grease blowing out the backside. Pleased to see they were Axletek assemblies. Install was easy, put new bearings and Dexter Wet bolt kit.
