Quick Tip: There's really not a whole lot to getting new drum brakes. If you've confirmed that all of the specs listed above line up with what you need for your trailer, you can be pretty sure these will work for you.
The pads on these trailer brakes are made of the same friction material that you might find on a car's drum brakes. In fact, the material is SAE-N certified. So, not only does it provide high-performance braking, but it's environmentally friendly, too! With these brakes, your trailer will be good to go on any road throughout the United States and Canada.
The superior quality of these pads is also due to the fact that they're bonded to the shoes, not just nailed down. Riveted brake pads will always give you a screeching reminder to replace your brake shoes. That's because the rivets will scrape against your drum as the friction material wears down. You won't have that noisy problem with bonded brake pads. You'll also get a little more friction pad contact because there aren't any cutouts for rivets. And more friction means more stopping power.
These pads are also tapered, which should help to prevent any broken, crumbly bits of material from rotating inside the drum as the pads wear over time. Brakes without these tapers are more likely to create a jarring braking experience that could cause the brakes to stutter and lock up.
With typical electric brake assemblies, you need to manually adjust them every now and then to make sure you're getting the shortest stopping distances every time you tow.
With self-adjusting brakes, though, you'll always have peak stopping power - simple as that! As the brake pads wear over time, a tensioning cable will automatically keep the pads in alignment so they'll consistently make contact with your drum when you brake. You won't have to do tedious manual adjustments anymore.
A lot of resources have been invested to ensure that these brakes meet the requirements for certification set by the QAI and CSA . Basically, these certifications tell you that these trailer brakes are well built and safe for use on the road. They've been tested for braking performance under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday tower.
Once you get these brakes installed, you'll need to break them in. First, find a long stretch of road or a big, empty parking lot. Once you're there, set your brake controller to its maximum setting and get moving. Speed up to about 40 mph and brake to slow to about 20 mph. Repeat this 15-30 times. The goal is to get the brake shoes and magnet properly seated into your drum. You'll know you've done that when it feels less jerky (and more consistent) each time you apply the brakes.
Note: The brakes will be very hot after doing this, so after every 10 stops you'll want to wait about 10 minutes to let the brakes cool off before continuing. If you don't, you might cook and crack the pad material.

I've had them on the trailer for about one year now, still work like brand new. Good quality, they were easy to install. The self adjusting feature is definitely a bonus. Highly recommend.
Easy install as they were an exact replacement. Glad to have found self adjusting brakes as it was difficult crawling under my 5th wheel, raising a wheel off the ground and performing the adjustment procedure. It took several hundred miles for these to burnish in completely. Once they did, my brake controller setting was reduced from 100% to 40%. Our 7 week road trip took us through Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, mountains of Idaho, Washington and Oregon. The brakes were great the entire trip.
Unfortunately after about 4 month of use brake magnet arm was broken half and fails all brakes on the trailer
I am usually not one to buy aftermarket parts, I always prefer “Made in USA”. However these brake assemblies were better then expected and fit perfectly. I’m yet to see the wear factor but they look good.
Again, parts themselves were terrific. No issues. Packaging was horrible. 4 complete brakes with backing plates were shipped in one cardboard box. No dividers between the parts. They had to have been banging together during shipment. Box was ripped. Other parts in the box could easily (and may have) fallen out. Luckily, everything was intact.

The employee assisted me in the selection of the parts I needed. The order was placed and I was given a delivery date. Surprise, the order was delivered a few days ahead of that. I am pleased.
the early arrival of the brakes was a surprise.Thats a +, the - was the packaging was a dissapointment. to put 2 brake kits in a 3' long box with several crumpled pieces of paper that allows the brakes to crash into each other during shipping can cause damage to the parts. either strap them in or use foam to secure them. over all I am satisified with the product. I am replacing the brakes on my 38rl redwood camper.

Had exactly what we needed. Our brakes are not your ordinary 7 hole ours are 4 holes and wider. Etrailer was the only company that carried them and had them in stock. Ordered, shipped, and received within 2 days!

Product was great and box was delivered intact. Quick delivery. A couple of the brakes were bouncing around in the package and some reassembly was required but all the pieces were there and no parts were damaged.

only complaint was that one (2) sets ordered one of the backing plates was wrong - so have to swap parts over to old backing plate but everything worked as should -

Brakes work as they should on my 2004 Elite horse trailer. Easy to install. The break in period is important as when I first installed braking was not good, but after break in period they work excellent.
Way cheaper than original Dexter and came w/ a shield. It's looks exactly the same and performs like Dexter, but you save a lot money. My friend saw these on my trailer and couldn't believe how much I paid. So, he had me order 4 set of them for him. I just torch off old mounting bolts and the brake assembly fit perfectly. My trailer is used mon-fri for work. Now, I have working trailer brakes.
GREAT PRICE AND AWESOME STOPPING POWER! USED THESE UNITS TO CONVERT FROM OLD HYD BRAKES TO ELECTRIC, I PULL OVERSIZE WITH A 28,000 GVW GOOSNECK AND THESE BRAKES SLOW IT DOWN NICE!

Parts where exact fit for dexter 8k axles,great value and appears to be well a manufactured assembly. Order fulfillment customer service was excellent!Items was shipped proto and well packaged. This was first time doing business with etrailer, definitely will be back!
