The battery was fully charged when it arrived and still fully charged a couple of months later when I finally got around to installing it. Works as expected. The lanyard for the breakaway switch is pretty long (50",) so I installed it as far back as I could on the trailer frame.

Great. I have not needed the breakaway controller. I have noticed the battery holds a charge for a long time, so even though I don’t use the tailer for months at a time, it stays charged and gets topped off when I use the trailer.

by:

I wired it up to recharge off of the house battery in the trailer, I put the wiring in the old battery box. Now it's easy test, easy re-charge. It took a while to get it but well worth the wait.

by:

This made the brake system rebuild super easy. Great price and shipping is always fast with etrailer

by:

I was pleased that I recieved all the items as stated in the information. It fit on the trailer and all the holes lined up so I did not need to redrill anything. I used a solder heat shrink tubing to make my connections.

by:

It was the oem direct replacement. It comes with everything you need.

by:

Sheila gave me the best customer service experience I’ve ever had. etrailer is a great place to do business. Thanks to each of you.

by:

I bought a used trailer and its breakaway was in rough shape with a dead battery. This kit was easy to install and has been working great.

by:

Exact product that was on my trailer when new.

by:

First off my 20' trailer I bought is only 2 years old, I tried every place in town and no one had a breakawway kit to match mine, all they said it was an old style. Got on computer found etrailer got the best cudtomer service and was able to get full demension, was an exact match, hooked it up and is working great.

by:

Good deal for the price

by:

Fair price shipped quick

First things first. Love your company! Keep up the great work. etrailer has been my go to site for all my trailer needs. As for the break away kit. I got a used inclosed trailer and it had a very large truck battery inside the trailer with a very large hole in the floor for the trailer breakaway system. An eye sore to say the least and very much in my way. I was shopping around etrailer site found the Bright way breakaway system. Watched the review about it. Did not think it would work for my two axle brake system. Ordered it anyway. Installed on outside of trailer. Did all this after installing new brakes. Did a test and I could not get the wheels to turn with trailer off the ground as well as doing a test with the trailer on my truck and the breakaway system worked and held the truck in place. Bottom line is the system does it job for a small battery. Love the system. It is small, can be placed almost anywhere, and again does its job. Only issue I had with it was the two screws that hold the cover closed started to rust after the first time it got wet. I replace them with better ones.

by:

etrailer is great as always. They are my sole source for everything trailer and I have never had a complaint against them.

This product on the other hand, horrible. They apparently have no quality control and make a crap product. When I received it, I took out the two screws holding the lid closed, to charge the battery before installing it on my trailer. When I went to open the lid, the first thing I noticed was the hinge on the lid was broken in two of three places holding the hinge to the lid. (see attached pictures) I immediately contacted etrailer and they sent me a replacement, like I said before they are great.

So I just received the replacement, I gently opened the box and the first thing I did was check the hinge. Wanna guess? Yep it was broken in two of the three places as well. The product packaging was in excellent shape, the shipping boxes were in great shape for both, there are no signs of shipping damage. So this is a lid that is supposed to be mounted to a trailer and survive the elements for years and it can't even make it to the consumer without damage.

NO I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.

by:

ontime thanks

by:

Just what I ordered, thanks

by:

Easy to install and works as designed. It was a good choice foe me

by:

Purchased because this is what my trailer had before and I didnt want to rework the mounting or wiring. This setup is good for about 4-5 years. The labeling and film over the buttons does not stand up to UV rays very well and came off almost immediately, letting water into the enclosure. It seems like the circuitboard for the charger is mostly water resistant and the battery box drains well enough. Serviceable average grade kit.

by:

We've had serious problems with it the biggest problem we've had is it corroded the plug up so bad we could hardly see the terminals. Have no idea what it is or what caused it

The breakaway kit would not have caused corrosive issues. I would follow your 7 way wire up to see where the corrosion starts. Perhaps there is a nick in the wire or other damage. Once corrosion starts on a terminal, without seeing it, it can quickly transfer onto the vehicle side.

by:

Item is as described

by:

Mounted fine and works as intended. Coated terminals on battery with dielectric grease to prevent corrosion because the battery box isn't water tight. Otherwise great product for the price.

by:

Good replacement for Broken or worn out factory breakaway kit

by:

Truly makes installing the brake controller a snap... two snaps actually.

by:

The breakaway box works great and was easy to install. The directions were clear. Shipping was fast. Great product and company!

Good Quality break away kit! Highly rec ommend!

  • Parts Needed To Add Electric Drum Brakes To A Trailer
To determine the correct brakes for your trailer we'll need to first know the axle capacity. The Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-26-27 you were looking at are designed for 3,500lb axles. From there you'll need a hub/drum assembly, which will require knowing your bearing and grease seal numbers and your wheel's bolt pattern. If you can't read the numbers on your bearings and grease seal then you can measure the spindle at points B, C, and D to get the inner diameter so that we can...

Though we do not sell complete conversion kits with all the necessary parts to convert to disc brakes, we do have all the parts to put it together for your 10,000 pound Dexter axle we have a couple options. The first option is the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R1058D11E. This kit is designed for Dexter axles with oil bath hubs that are made after May 2013. The second option is the # K2R1058D11HD. This kit is made for axles prior to 2009. Both systems mentioned are slip-on-over-the-hub rotors....

  • Parts Needed To Add Electric Brakes Onto a 3,500LB Dexter Axle Without Brakes
The Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-26-27 is the correct kit for your Dexter 3,500lb torsion axle studs. This includes both the left and right hand side brakes for one axle. It does not include a hub. I do recommend looking at the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-468-469 instead as the brakes adjust while you drive saving you on having to adjust the breaks as they wear. This also maintains a more constant brake feel with less adjustment required on the vehicle...

I recommend using the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # ASR1THDS03. This system has a upgraded spindle designed for additional strength. It includes a 4" lift spindle for additional ground clearance and will place your hub face for your Jeep wheels 8-1/2" from the frame and the axle centerline 9-5/8" below the bottom of the frame. If this is not far away enough for your Jeep wheels and tires you will need to then use some wheel spacers to push the wheels out further. The Electric...

Hello Darren. Thanks for reaching out, I can definitely help with this. To convert your 2024 Brinkley Z2900 5th wheel over to disc brakes, you will need a disc brake kit, a brake line kit, and electric over hydraulic actuator, and a breakaway kit for the trailer. You will need 4 of the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Assemblies # DE89YR with a Hydrastar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator w/ Line Kit # CAR-HBA16-2. Since you're looking for a relatively easy installation and your camper only has a single 3,500 lb axle, your best option is to add electric brakes.
