Today we're going to be taking a look at the Tow Ready Grill and Guard Coupler Lock. We've got two sizes available. The 2" is part number 63228; the 2-5/16" is part number 63227. These trailer coupler locks are great for securing your unattended trailer, preventing anybody from being able to hook up to them. They offer a gorilla guard design, which as you can see is a nice, heavy-duty lip, with structural supports all the way around our lock to prevent any kind of tampering. It has a single action, cylinder style key. Push in, a quarter turn out.
Key is removable. To attach it to your trailer we simply bring it onto our coupler, push up on the lock. As you can see that's all there is to it. Our trailer is secure, we can leave it for a while and don't have to worry about anybody hooking up to it and it getting taken from us. Now that we've gone over the details and you've seen how it works, that will complete today's look at the Tow Ready Gorilla Guard Coupler Locks, part number 63228 in 2" and part number 63227 in 2-5/16". .

Did not fit my trailer . When the lock is placed on the tongue the lock pin cannot be pushed in. It hits on the lip.
Doesn't quit fit! it only goes on far enough to get stuck on the 2-5/16 (Ram) brand coupler. Assuming ram is the brand. Won't go on far enough to lock.
I read a lot of reviews before I bought this lock. Knowing the good and bad. And after getting the lock and trying to fit it on. It didn’t fit. But I understand why it doesn’t fit and why some people return them. I myself didn’t want to return it. This is what found out with mine and my solution. When I looked at the hitch, it wasn’t symmetrical. The ball part looked fine but it was the lip or flange all the way around the hitch that wasn’t the same. The left side of the lip was shorter than the right and the front wasn’t very rounded. There is also a radius from the ball part to the flange that wasn’t quite the same around hitch. Looking at the lock, it was uniformed in and around the whole thing where it supposed to fit the hitch. Fitting the lock on the hitch was hitting the radius that was created from the manufacturer of the hitch. The lock doesn’t have this radius to match the hitch. And I didn’t want to modify the hitch because you want to keep the strength of the hitch for when you pull your trailer. To fix this I started forming a radius on the upper inside of the slot where the flange would fit inside of the lock to match the hitch radius. Started at the corners at the opening. Rounding it little by little with lots of trips back and forth just until the lock portion would fit up inside of the ball opening. Making sure I didn’t go to far to be to loose. I ended up not taking to much off in order for it to slide on. It works and fits great now. Some people don’t have to do this. That’s great. Even though I modified mine a little bit. I’m still giving it a 5 Star. There are pictures of the modification only.
I had the lock before had good luck with it so I had to buy again I had someone try and hacksaw the last one off and they did not any luck in doing so just wish they where made in the good old USA
The Gorilla tongue lock is easy to use and hard to defeat. For me its the best available.
No matter how carefully we evaluated ahead of time, it doesn’t fit. There is more to the fit than trailer ball size. Very disappointing.
Super nice lock I'm very happy with it. Make sure you read thoroughly and measure closely because I see a lot of people complaining about it not fitting or working on there tongue. It fit very tight on mine which is what I wanted so there is zero play. You can't even move it at all which is what I wanted. It looks nice and the locking mechanism seems to be great. Definitely recommend for those trailers it will actually fit on.
This is a decent product. Easy to easy (although the key is sometimes hard to get out of the core). Its not high security...but all that I want is to make my trailer appear harder to steal than the ones next to it.
This did not work for my hitch. The lip of the coupler was too wide to allow the locking pin to slide up into the coupler. Unfortunately I dropped the lock and scratched the finish so I couldn't return it. I did purchase a different model that has worked well for me. Also from etrailer.
Reading the previous reviews on this coupler lock I thought it would be a great fit for my trailer, I was wrong. The lock slides over the lip but thats where the fitment ends, the locking pin doesnt clear the inner portion of the coupler so it will not lock. Trying to get it to fit I scuffed the finish on the lock so I cant return this to get one that fits. Site seems to have large selection of locks but with this experience it might be better to find one locally so you dont have to wait for a product only to find out it doesnt fit. There is a chance that the lip could be modified but why not find a lock that works the way the trailer was built.
Hello etrailer,
My order for the Trailer Coupler Lock (63227) and CIPA Universal Towing Mirrors (7070-2) was deliver on Sunday May 2nd, 2021.
My enclosed trailer made by American Hauler has a 2 5/16” coupler. Unfortunately, the Trailer Coupler Lock (63227) didn’t fit every well on the coupler and the lock pin wouldn’t move up into the coupler ball socket.
I was going to send this back to you, but after reading some of the feedback from other people who purchase this lock had the same problem as me and how they fix it.
So, I decided to modify my trailer coupler and modify the Trailer Coupler Lock (63227). After doing the modification the Coupler Lock fit good.
By doing this, it most likely ended any warranty it may have had.
This Lock does not fit on any of my trailers. All are 2 5/16 couplers or various brands. I tried it on my enclosed trailer (continental enclosed), camper , dump trailer (triple crown) and boat trailer (titan brake coupler) .
Solid product. Easy to install & remove.
works great
Bought this to replaced a damaged one from another manufacturer. Smart design with the keyhole on the underside - not exposed to the elements. Fit perfectly. Feels very secure. Will likely buy additional one for our other trailer.
This is a good and easy lock to use. The only reason why I gave it a 4 star instead of a 5 star is it is actually fairly easy to break into. I have several of these for several different trailers and had lost the keys to one. I had to use the trailer and all I had to do was use a pry bar and the whole unit broke right in half. Other then that though the functionality is great. I have since switched to a more secure lock for some of my more valuable trailers.
The lock didn't fit my trailer. There is a third measurement that is not listed that I didn't take into account. That is the distance on the outside of the ball housing. My hitch was too wide to allow the lock to completely slide on which in turn blocked the locking pin.
Received the coupler lock in good condition and it worked perfectly.
Another job well done by etrailer
Thanks Guys
Great lock
I have purchased similar hitch locks, but have never been able to find a better product then this Gorilla Guard. This will be my go to lock for all of the other trailers in need.
Awesome theft protection
The package was open and the keys missi ng.
Good product. One little problem is that the key wouldn't turn to unlock. Had to use WD40 to loosen the locking pins and break it in. This is my second lock and will buy again if lost or damaged.
I am very happy with my purchase. Shipping on my items was very fast & packaged well. This hitch isn't the only item I purchased. I like all the items I received from you. Everything I purchased was made of very good qaulity material. And competative prices.
I would recommend buying from you to others !
I purchased them but did not use them right away. I should have. One of the locks the keys did not open it and another one you have to wiggle and jiggle the key for several seconds to try to get it to open the lock. I have thrown away both locks since it has been so long and I knew I would never get replacements or my money back. I have many other from this company and they work great. They are several years old and still working just fine.
