good quality latch looks like it will hold up to years of use, works good and looks good , and installed pretty easy. I installed it on my car trailer service door and it fits real nice. I would of rated it 5 star but the back side of the latch on the inside of door does not have a trim ring it would improve the appearance of the installation. I will fabricate my own to cover the ruff edge of the opening.

Hello
I'm very satisfied with my purchase,
i installed the new
lock handle in place of the side door '"swing lock handle"
i'm using the trailer as a camper and by doing this it
makes the door more usable and i can enter the trailer
more easly with this handle, i took pictures as i installed
the new lock handle.
Thanks Larry

Here are some pictures from the horse trailer upgrade. Picture A is the old handle and removal. Picture B is test fitting, installation. I had to remove a little material on the top and some on the end. To transfer the existing hole locations I just drew lines to find the center of each hole with a pencil. Installed the new handle and transferred the lines. Painted the handle silver before installation. Picture C, before and after. Time for install abuot 1.5 hour including paint. Thank you

Great latch with a durable finish. The thicker door allowance on the latch worked perfectly for my application.

by:

We have a 1967 Ford American LaFrance Firetruck with 7 cargo bins and no latches that lock. Makes it pretty useless for storage space. The locks are a perfect match to the old hardware we took off. The first one installed in less than 5 minutes.

The team at etrailer kept us up to date on the order, shipment, delivery, etc., it was a great experience.

by:

The latch worked great! We installed it a year ago and it's still working great!

by:

Does not have the supports for screws to sit in. In other words the solution we were told is to drill holes all the way through which takes away the safety feature. If you buy this it is not the same size bolt as well. Much shorter. In general not a match as advertisied.

This latch is meant to be installed with pop rivets and or screws that would be drilled into the four corners,

Unfortunately, and I am very sad to say, the lock I ordered from you did not fit my Wells Cargo trailer *:( sad. Online, it looked like a perfect fit, but unfortunately in real life there were several things about the new lock I ordered that did not match up to my old one. My old lock is still usable, so I guess I'll have to keep using it.

I hate to return things I order, but in this case it is useless to me. I would like to return it in it's original, perfect condition for a refund, but want to make sure I send it appropriately. Will you give me the instructions I need?

Again, I am sorry it didn't work out as I had hoped, and I appreciated your kind letter. I would still like to give a good review for you, even though the product didn't work for me.

Thank you for trying...
Wayne *:( sad

Good latch. Seems to look and work well enough. Unfortunately I was never able to really use it because the bar on the back wasn't long enough to reach the door frame from the latch pocket where the previous latch was installed in my trailer door. But that's my fault, I should have done a little more measuring before buying.

by:

I bought this lock to replace the original on my Trillium 1300 fiberglass trailer. Although not the exact size as the original I was able to adapt it by use of metal plates. The new latch is simpler and much more robust than the original. A liberal coating of grease on the moving parts makes for a smooth operation.

by:

Replacing old Wells Cargo door latch, local trailer supply houses couldn't match,
this product is correct size and with a few modifications will have door working properly in no time.

by:

Product itself was not bad. Just had to do some minor modifications to make them work on a 1980 trailer. The latch handle pin is a touch long, so make sure you have proper clearance.

by:

Great product at a great price! Very sturdy and well made! After a year of major use traveling all over the state to different rodeos and shows the lock has taken no wear and no failure. Will continue to use this company and their products!

by:

The new door latch was a bit bigger than the old one. I measured it before I ordered and thought it was the same size. I just made the hole bigger and everything worked great. Better bigger than too small. Looks great.

by:

The product was as described and arrived very quickly. The quality is good and worked as intended. Should have loojed a little closer, this model does not have mounting screw posts. My mistake, there is one with mounting posts. I was able to make it work.

by:

good product but the paddle is too short, won't work on my wells cargo trailer

by:

Latch was just what I was looking for. Went o 2 different supply houses, they had no idea where I could find one. Thank you for your service, it is nothing short of fantastic! It was here Monday in the mail, and I believe I ordered on Friday noon. I will be back. Thank you very much. Bob's Ice Fishing.

by:

wrong part I thought I order a front door latch instead I got a cargo latch not to happy I wanted a latch for the front door on a boundry 1986 motorhome

by:

Quality isn't as good as I was hopping for, But for the price I got much better parts than I expected. I am very happy with my purchase, and will be doing a lot more shopping with Etrailer!

by:

would be nice if lip was wider and had pre-drilled holes for mounting....other than that, it works OK

by:

Still works love it on my trailer

by:

Everything through the ordering process was as it should be. Parts arrived, exactly what I ordered. Will continue to use etrailer

by:

  • Replacement Locking Door Latch for 1994 Wells Cargo Trailer
I researched circa-1994 Wells Cargo trailers but I could not find any confirmed specs for the particular door latch they used on their various sizes of trailers. Most do use a flush-mount latch like Redline # L3980 and # L1883. You'll need to remove the old latch and measure the opening to find the correct replacement latch. Part # L1883 mounts in an opening that measures 2-5/8 x 3-3/4 and part # L3980 mounts in a hole that measures 3-3/8 x 4-5/8. For the inside knob you can use part #...

  • Recommended Flush Door Latch for Wells Cargo Trailer
I might have an option for you but we don't offer any flush door latches with an extended striker. However, the Full Size Locking Steel Flush Door Latch part # L3980 matches your door cutout at 4-5/8" long x 3-3/8" so this is our best option. If the striker does not reach the catch plate, I recommend moving the latch closer to the end of the door. I have attached our full list of door latch options for you.

The Full Size Locking Steel Flush Door Latch # L3980 is designed to fit 1-1/16 inch thick doors and mounts in a hole that is 4-5/8 X 3-3/8 inches. • Recommended Hardware to Attach the Full Size Locking Steel Flush Door Latch
The Full Size Locking Steel Flush Door Latch part # L3980 can be mounted with a variety of different types of hardware. As you mentioned, pop rivets or carriage bolts would be the most secure. You could also use something like the Long Black Torx Wall Liner Screw part # WLS100 as torx bits are more of a speciality tool. The correct bit for this screw is part # TX425. If you have a metal door you could weld it on as well.
