Hello everybody, this is Jeff here at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this CURT deep drop adjustable two ball mount for a 2 1/2 inch hitch. Has a 20,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now one note is for this video, if you notice, I do have it installed in this 2 1/2 inch hitch display just so we can demonstrate how this operates. Now basically this ball mount has a dual ball platform so to let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank right here you can see is what'll slide into the 2 1/2 inch hitch receiver and the balls will provide the connection point for your trailer coupler.
If you notice on the ball mount shank here, it has multiple holes in it. That'll give you an adjustable height so to let you tow trailers of different heights with the same vehicle. The distance between those adjustment holes center to center is 1 1/4 inches. Now if we put this ball mount in the very lowest position and then measured from the top here to the ball platform, it's gonna give you a maximum drop of 11 3/4 inches. Now this is the drop position.
This is not intended to be used in the rise position. Basically you can slide this ball mount up or down along the shank, secure it in place with the included pins and the vibration resistant clip, and you're all ready to go. Basically this clip is designed to install on both pins and I did want to demonstrate that 'cause it is a little tricky if you're not familiar seeing this before. But basically what you'll do is you can see how it's installed on the top and hooks around the bottom. To release it, you just pull back on it and then just you can slide the clip right off the top pin and then your clips are moved.
And then you got your two pins here that you can slide right out and then move your ball mount, switch to ball size or move it up and down for whatever height you need. And then when you go to reinstall the vibration resistant clip, all you gotta do is hook it onto the top pin just like that, pull it all the way, push it down there and then just put a little force on it until it clips into place. And you can see it's got a nice tension on it to keep those bolts from rattling. Now this does offer a nice deep drop so it is ideal for larger lifted trucks and SUV. We did mention the two different size hitch balls that will let you tow trailers with different coupler sizes.
As you can see now, the one in the up position is the two-inch diameter ball. If you flipped it over, you could use the 2 5/16 diameter ball. And to switch them it's pretty easy 'cause it's the same way. Remove your clip like we did before. Once you got your clip out, what I'm gonna do, slide out the bottom pin, slide out the top pin, and look that out. You can see the ball mount is released and then you could just flip it over, put it back in there, use the larger ball or put it in what height you need for your application. So it's very easy to switch around. Now the ball mount by itself can be used as also a weight distribution shank. Now this does offer an anti-rattle design to help reduce the towing noise. And the way they do that is if you look on the inside of the ball mount here, you'll see a rubber bumper. It's a rubber dampener. So when you go to put this on, let's go back to reinstall this, and we'll go ahead and line it up, put our pin through. And then you'll notice when you push down, there's a little that rubber dampener. You push down to put that second pin and it gives you a rubber contact in there. So it's not metal to metal. It gives you a rubber dampener there to help eliminate some of the noise also. And then again, we'll just take our clip, pull it down there, and you're all ready to go. Simple as that. This is a high strength Ford Steel construction. Has a durable carbide powder coat finish on the ball mount. And the balls themselves are a yellow zinc plated finish to help resist rust and corrosion. Now up here, if you notice I do have the pin and clip in there that's holding it in place. Now that pin and clip is not included. You would have to supply that. It's a standard 5/8 inch diameter pinning clip. Or you could even use a hitch lock for extra security. But again, they're not included. We do sell those separately. Application again fits a 2 1/2 inch by 2 1/2 inch trailer hitch receiver. Now the gross towing weight capacity is gonna vary depending on the ball size you use. If you use the smaller two-inch ball, 10,000 pound gross towing weight capacity, 1000 pound towing weight capacity. If you flip it over, use the larger 2 5/16 diameter ball, 20,000 pound gross towing weight, 2000 pound towing weight. And then the last thing I want to show you is if we can just move this around a little bit, if we measure from the center of this hitch pinhole to the center of the ball is gonna be 14 1/4 inches. But that's gonna do it for a review on this CURT deep drop adjustable two ball mount for a 2 1/2 inch hitch. Has a 20,000 pound gross towing weight capacity.

This steel, adjustable ball mount lets you tow up to 10,000 lbs with the 2" ball or 20,000 lbs with the 2-5/16" ball. Can be positioned in up to a 11-3/4" drop position. Fits 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" hitch receivers.I haven't used it yet, but fits as expected. Enough drop for anything I might tow with my 2500HD ZR2, including an 1-7/8 utility trailer (with an convert-a-ball ordered separately), or bolting on the W/D head I already own.
Shipping and packaging was great. The hitch was overcoated so the locking pins I bought from you wouldn’t fit. I had to sand the holes for the pins would go through to hold the balls. Then the 2.5 receiver end was too small for the third pin. I was under the assumption that three pins all keyed the same would be one to attach to the truck and two for the ball attachment. So I had to buy aggressive sanding disks and another locking pin that would fit the receiver section to the truck due to the hitch diameter being to small. These products (hitch& pins) should have been a simple 5 minute installation and it was a few hours and phone to ask for direction
Exactly what I needed. Just as described. Built solid! Made the mistake of trying to install ball attachment pins on the floor. The anti rattle bumper has to compress alot before pins will fit. I slid the hitch into the receiver for more leverage and they went in no problem! Thanks etrailer.
This hitch is exactly what I wanted and is a nice chunck of forged steel. It was well packaged and arrived with no damage. It was easy to attached the hitch ball and lowered it enough to fit my utility trailer. The instructions for measuring how much drop I needed was right on the money.
Heavy duty
It is perfect - just what we were searching for!
This drop hitch is a beast! Fits good and all holes line up. Seems to be made very well.
