I cannot use this ball mount because the shaft is too short that goes into hitch receiver on my one ton Dodge truck. It does not allow enough room between truck back bumper and ball to allow any trailer tongue to be put on ball.

COULD NOT USE THE ITEM!!!!!!!

by:

The ball mount was a complete failure even after a lengthy discussion on the phone. I wanted a ball mount that would accept the rocker ball and anti-sway bar. The bar sent to me can't be used this way. An email and phone message to the sales person I ordered with, got no response.

I am sorry the parts didnt work out like you were hoping. I will have our customer service team reach out to you about this quickly!

Purchased this hitch as a companion for our Reese anti sway control. The small ball for the Reese sway control fits in the bracket and the 2” drop on the hitch is exactly what we needed to have our Jayco camper level when towing.

Continues to work perfect in conjunction with my Reese friction sway control

by:

Works great so far, I had some difficulty mounting the ball plate on trailer frame. Make sure to mark holes with a punch and use a new drill bit.

by:

Very prompt service and delivery. Ready to get this on the truck and start pulling the new camper!

by:

My wife is a member of "Sisters On The Fly" with four vintage trailers, so I have been a frequent customer of etrailer. I have never failed to get excellent customer service and top of the line products.

by:

Was exactly what I needed, for a great price, with clear installation instructions.

by:

Works well. Much better than the previous two piece unit. No play between the two parts, so no clunking.

by:

I ordered and received the ball mount and sway bar together. They were received very promptly and in excellent shape. They are very heavy, i.e., heavy duty. The bracket that was fitted to the trailer was about half a screw wider than optimal size for my smallish trailer but did fit. Installation was easy. The self-tapping screws functioned well. All-in-all, a 10 out of 10 experience.

Great. No problems after a year.

by:

Have not yet used it as I just got to install the hitch today.

by:

We have looked for this tow hitch with sway bar ball, then we saw yours. It fit perfect. Will work great with towing our 13 foot camping trailer. I am a happy customer , And for your quick service, that was great. Thank you.

Great product

Fast shipping

by:

This is the package that I received and I was very disappointed in the condition that I received it . But the unit it self was quiet nice and looks like it will work very fine for my use !

by:

This process simply could not have been simpler. It shipped the same day I ordered it and it was in my mailbox a day and a half later The video instructions as well as the print instructions were clear and concise and easy to follow. Both products were quality items, what you'd expect fro etrailer.com, and I would highly recommend this site for quick shipments and high quality products.

Still working hard and performing well. Im very pleased with this purchase. Thanks for the follow-up.

by:

It was delivered quickly. The price was excellent. I've owned this product before and it was stolen off my truck. I use it to pull a ultra lite 21foot trailer. The hitch and stabilizer bar work well together. I really like this product.

by:

Very simple & strong! It’ll work perfect for my new 20’ trailer with sway bar! Love it!

It worked okay, but ultimately I had to go another direction.

by:

The Curt ball mount with sway control bracket appears to be a great quality product. It will not be used until May of 2015 when we pick up our new travel trailer. I am sure it will get the job done.

by:

Meriah also found this ball mount (with sway control plate) that is also rated at 7500lbs to match my class 5 hitch rating - this ball mount simplified attaching sway control from trailer frame

by:

installing parts together very easy.

by:

Worked wonders with the small toyhaler camper I have went into the mountains and even had a blowout on the haler with the sway control tab held up great

by:

This hitch has worked great for the Curt friction sway control for my pop-up camper. I tow with a Honda Ridgeline and this fits perfect and works as it should. I would recommend this to others.

by:

Used this hitch connected to pop-up trailer with single anti-sway bar. Works great, no trailer sway in high winds or 75 mph.

by:

I haven't actually put this product to use, yet, but it seems to be very well made with clean strong welds. Nice and heavy, and arrived looking like it was just made. And it's made in the USA!!! No Chinese steel. This will work perfectly with my sway control bar and hitch.

by:

Great product. Use this with sway bar rather than heavy hitch with load leveler attachments. I don't need levelers with my ultra lite camper. Super quick to ship!!

  • Sway Control Bracket on Both Sides of a Ball Mount
I am sorry, but the Curt Ball Mount with Sway Control Bracket, part # D320, is only offered with the sway control bracket on the right side. We do offer a Sway Control Tab, part # 3442, that you can weld onto a ball mount. Or, we also offer a Sway Control Adapter, Left Side, part # 3475, that can be used with a Round Bar weight distribution head.

  • How to Pick Out the Right Rise/Drop Ball Mount
In order to pick out the correct rise/drop ball mount you need to take a couple measurements and do one simple calculation. It sounds like you may need a different drop ball mount, but to prevent you from ordering the wrong one check out the FAQ article I attached that details how to select the correct height ball mount for your setup.

The distance from the ball hole of the Curt sway control ball mount part # D320 to the pin hole is 7-1/2 inches. I don't see any reason why the length would be an issue with a 2013 Chevy Silverado 1500 using the bumper hitch.

  • Sway Control Bracket Recommendation for a Left Hand Sway Bar
You can use the Curt Ball Mount with Sway Control Bracket, # D320, in the rise position to have the sway control bracket on the left side, but you will want to remember that doing this will raise the height of your trailer tongue by almost 3 inches. This can create additional sway issues even with a sway control bar installed. Another option that you can look into is using a weld on sway control tab like part # 3442. This tab can be welded to the side of your current ball mount to provide...

Due to the length of your R-Pod 179 you would only need one of the Curt Friction Sway Control Units part # 17200. For a ball mount that has a mounting tab for the ball of the # 17200 the part # D320 would work great.

The Pro Series friction sway control unit part # 83660 that you referenced would be what I would go with if I were you. It is essentially the same thing as the other units and is at a much better price. Your trailer is pretty lightweight, but if you are getting any sway when semi trucks pass you or in strong winds this unit will help greatly. • Can a Friction Sway Control Bar be Used with a 3-Ball Ball Mount
You will not be able to use a friction sway bar such as # 83660 with a tri-ball ball mount. There would be no place to attach the sway bar to the vehicle side and you would not be able to use a bracket or weld-on tab for the small ball the sway bar needs. A ball mount such as # D320 would be what you need. I have linked a video review of it for you.

  • Is There A Torque Spec For Trailer Sway Control Hitch Ball
I called my contact at Curt and asked about the torque needed for the ball that the sway control is attached to on the trailer hitch. They told me that there has never been a torque listed but if you would torque it to about 150 ft-lbs it will have no problems. There is no torque value in the installation instructions. You want to periodically check all of the towing components to make sure they are all secure and ready to use.

I called my contact at Curt and they told me that installing the unit and having a 1 inch difference will not affect the performance and will work just fine. We don't have a wider bracket than the # RP26005 for your ball mount so the best option we would have would be a new ball mount that has the bracket already attached like the Curt # D320 which has a drop of 2 inches since you aren't wanting to do any welding.

The sway control tab on the Curt Ball Mount w/ Sway Control Tab for 2" Hitches # D320 you referenced won't hit the trailer frame with sharp turns. There are many factors that go into determining a weight rating for a ball mount. The Bropy Ball Mount # BM20 for instance with having the extra long 13-1/4" ball mount to center pin hole will create more leverage on the receiver tube. The same way you use longer ratchets to make turning a bolt easier. That is one factor that a manufacturer has to consider when developing a ball mount.
