Note: Due to the built-in self-locking hitch pin, this ballmount will not work in a 2-1/2" hitch with a reducer sleeve.
This cutaway view of the shank shows the locking mechanism in action. The locking pins extend out from the shank when the key is turned, locking the ball mount into the hitch.
The ball platform locks to the ball mount with an internal lock. When you unlock the platform you can slide it up or down to adjust the ball height. You can also slide the platform off, reverse it, and slide it back on to change ball sizes.

I did notice there was what I thought was an unusual amount of play in the receiver.
I called etrailer and Marcia was so very helpful and very concerned that I may have received the wrong product. She even called the manufacturer and found out what the changes that were made by the manufacturer which made the pictures incorrect. My hat is off to Marcia and all the folks at etrailer

I recently purchased a 2013 GMC 2500 Denali It comes with a 2.5" hitch with and adapter to make it down to a 2" hitch.. Unfortunately this locking device extends out on each side only far enough for the 2" adapter and not into the 2.5" frame hitch. I suppose i will have to find one that has a hole all the way through for a lock..

Hello Andy I have 2014 GMC denali 2500hd and from what I understand is that the locking pins that come out are not long enough to lock into the 2.5 receiver?

All that I expected save one detail...
The hitch has two locks - one for the receiver and one for the adjustable ball assembly. It would be nice if the locks were keyed the same. I always worry about losing my hitch keys. Now I have another key to worry about.

Super investment. Worth the money.
ball mount fits loosely in the receiver so that the pins that extend out from the ball mount shaft through the holes in the receiver don't extend out far enough, for my liking.
This is because since the ball mount shaft has so much play, it will shift to one side. Then, the pin on the other side does not extend all the way out of the hole so that it is not flush. True, i am being paranoid. However, i imagine a case like a crash where enough force could pull the shaft out from the not fully extended pin side to release the trailer to wreak more damage.
I would just feel more secure if the pins went out further through the receiver or the shaft was not so loose.
Otherwise, i really like the product a lot... enough to give it four stars... :o)

the receiver hasnt been used a lot... but so far, it is still working well.
High quality hitch. Very easy to use. I really like that it is one key for the lock and the adjustment. Really good looking hitch. Price is really good when you price out lock/ball/receiver and this one is adjustable with one key for all. This is our second one purchased after we tried the first one out.

We have two of these for our fleet of tow vehicles with 80k miles of towing with all working great.
The sales service was excellent. I would have ordered directly from the web site but I had questions first. Also I had a time constraint. They fulfilled the order with a few days to spare. This hitch looks like a top quality made in the USA product. It arrived in perfect shape, all contents included, no damage. I haven't used it yet, but based on many other reviews I don't expect any problems. If there are, I'll update this. Otherwise, I'll be a happy camper.
This is a very good and versatile hitch. I have 3 trailers which each need a different height, 1 trailer uses a 2 inch ball and the others use a 2.5 inch ball, this hitch makes it very easy to change hitch height and ball size with no tools needed. The hitch feels solid when towing with it. I would highly recommend the purchase of the self locking, adjustable hitch.
The ball mount in itself is awesome. Very solid and heavy and the build quality appears to be excellent. Unfortunately I had to return it and got instead the similar Fastway DTALBM6625-2S - which is for a 2-1/2 inch receiver and also the balls are stainless steel. The reason I had to return it is because I have a 2018 Ford F-250 Super Duty. They come with a 2-1/2" receiver and Ford includes a reducing adapter to get it to 2". The issue was that the lock mechanism on the Fastway does not send the lacking rods out far enough to engage BOTH the adapter sleeve and the 2-1/2 inch hitch - so the entire thing would just slide out. This was not a product flaw, I should have considered better how the locking mechanism worked before ordering. E-trailer was great with the return process, even provided a downloadable return shipping label at a reasonable cost and I got the refund to paypal the same day they received it back. I again got from etrailer their Fastway DTALBM6625-2S which is an absolute BEAST as well and looks great on the truck.
Required a bit of gentle sanding to fit into my receiver. I hated to scuff up the mirror finish. Looks great on my lifted Tacoma. The locking mechanism & reversible slide ball and no rattle design is genius. 4 keys, I like that too.
I wish more things were built this way.

I stand by the 5 star rating, hitch has been with out fault. I miss calculated the and trailer sits at an angle, ocasionally thats a problem. I extended the trailer tonge 3ft. that eased the angle problem. I may sell this one and reorder a correct .
Best looking thing on my truck. Last ball mount was stolen so problem solved.Just hope locking mechinisum does not corrode.

Still very happy with ball mount. Easy to change sizes. No corrosion however I do hit it with WD40 from time to time as preventive measure due to intense saltwater environment.

Unfortunately, the vertical portion of the receiver hangs down too far down for my application and I ended up scraping it on the concrete when backing out of a moderately sloped driveway. The manufacturer does not offer the receiver portion of the hitch as a replacement part so I had to purchase an entirely new hitch with different dimensions. It's a beautiful, sturdy hitch but you need to consider how low the vertical portion of the receiver is in relation to how steep your driveway is.
ordered this for myself. after comparing a lot of hitches decided on this one and I am very happy with it

Overall pretty good. Adjusting the height and locking the pins isn't the smoothest, but it works just fine. If the ball is close to the key hole it makes it hard to lock the pins.
Product was delivered on time and in very good conditions.

MAKES ME WONDER, HOW YOU GET EVERYTHING INTO THOSE 2 PEICES OF SOLID METAL.
HAVING LOCKS BUILT IN WILL SAVE ME ALOT. AS I HAD 2 KEYED LOCKS BEFORE, BUT WHEN YOU LOAN OUT TO FAMILY THEY DONT SOMETIMES GET PUT BACK ON AND GET STOLEN. YEA THANK'S

This is one slick ball mount. Excellent material and functionality. Looks pretty spiffy too on my wife's Grand Cherokee. We have several different trailers and it was always a hassle swapping mounts and flipping heights or drops.
Ordering and delivery were some of the easiest I have had.
Customer service follow up ( where was my package ) was awesome as well.
I am an etrailer customer for life.
I am actually buying this hitch for a second time. We had a friend that needed to use a trailer and had a hitch on his truck way to big for the trailer, extremely heavy and was so hard to take off of his truck. I lent him my hitch which came right off my truck and was easily put on his truck. He liked the hitch so much he bought it from me. So I had to turn around and buy another one.
Great product
The fit in my 2 inch hitch was sloppy at best and in my view unsafe. The hitch rattled and the locking pins did not extend past the holes in the hitch. In fact it appeared to me it could separate from the truck while towing a trailer. I am returning it. Seemed well built and very solid. Extremely disappointed.
This is my second adjustable hitch drop. I've had this same one in both Class 3 & 5. Both are good and very handy. It does sometimes take a little wiggle of the ball assembly as you try to turn the key to get it to lock into place. This is because you can't see if the lock pin is lined up with a hole exactly or not.
This is my second DT self-locking adjustable hitch. In the five years that I have used this product there has been zero problems. If and when I trade trucks again I will buy another one. This is the best and most reliable unit on the market. Thanks e-trailer for the fast shipping and painless purchase.
SatisfiedReceived helpful advice, order was taken efficiently and product arrived as promised. Probably a much nicer mount than I need, but I was 5 hours from my truck, the trailer was being built, and I was not sure how much drop would be needed. This one covers a wide range, is attractive, easy to use, and has a convenient locking feature. May or may not need the smaller ball, but like knowing it's there just in case. And it all looks good pulling a Kubota tractor on a 22' trailer.
Received the hitch recently.....first impressions are that this is a well made product, very well made. Heavy as heck too....which is nice. Mounted it up and locked it in, can't wait to tow with it. Seems well designed as well, the two key holes for locking it in place and adjusting the height have good weather seals as well. Not a lot of play in the moving parts which is nice, no real slop to deal with.
This ball works great. I've had it for a year now and it works perfectly.
I love this product, it's the second one I've bought. I am a landscape contractor so it really suits my situation to have a hitch with the versatility of 2 ball sizes and the height adjustment for all our different trailers.

Good Morning Patrick I just love the hitch for several reasons. It works flawlessly to start with and I am able to adapt to almost any trailer I choose to pull. It is definitely a plus being able to move the hitch to adapt for proper levelling. I have a lot of people just stop and look at the hitch when I am in parking lots, and a time or two they have asked me where I got it. The only downside is the fact that while people see it, so does my back up alarm...
