  • Gusset Measurements for MaxxTow Adjustable-Height Ball Mount
From the gusset to the very end of the shank measures 7-1/2" on the MaxxTow Adjustable-Height Ball Mount # MT70068. I also measured from the gusset to the center of the hitch pin hole and found that to be 4-3/4" (see attached).

  • Is Weight Capacity Lowered When Using MaxxTow Adjustable-Height Ball Mount MT70068
There is no change in the weight capacity of the MaxxTow Adjustable-Height Ball Mount, part # MT70068 when the height is changed. This ball mount has a 5,000-lb capacity whether it is in the 7-1/2 inch drop or 6-1/4 inch rise position. This ball mount is designed to work with a 2-inch trailer hitch receiver opening.

  • Why Aren't Adjustable Ball Mounts Made for 1-1/4 inch Trailer Hitch
I really wish we did, but we do not have any adjustable ball mounts that fit a 1-1/4 inch hitch like the # MT70068 that you referenced. The added length and leverage of the adjustable ball mounts is why they aren't made for the lighter duty 1-1/4 inch hitch size. You'd have to go with a fixed ball mount with the correct rise/drop. I attached a help article that covers how to pick this out as well.

  • Inside Tube Size of MaxxTow Adjustable-Height Ball Mount MT70068
Both the shank portion and the ball mount portion of the MaxxTow Adjustable-Height Ball Mount # MT70068 measure 2- x 2-inches. I confirmed this by going to our warehouse and measuring both parts for you.

  • Are Adjustable Ball Mounts Available For Class l Hitches With 1-1/4 Inch Receiver Opening
Unfortunately, we do not offer any adjustable ball mounts designed to fit a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening at this time. We do have several ball mounts that have varied rise and drop but none that are adjustable like the Maxxtow # MT70068 you referenced. If you are looking for a mount that has just a couple of height adjustments you can check out the attached product page.

  • Does Longer Shank of MaxxTow Adjustable-Height Ball Mount MT70068 Affect Capacity of Hitch
The MaxxTow Adjustable Ball Mount part # MT70068 does come with a pretty long shank. But the only real thing at risk will be your shins. The added length does put a bit more leverage on the hitch, but it does not negatively affect the capacity of the hitch. In a lot of situations where a short trailer is being towed adding length can make it easier to back up.

  • Long Ball Mount Recommendation for 6-1/2 inches of Rise to Clear Subaru Bumper
Best option will be the MaxxTow Adjustable Ball Mount # MT70068 which will have the clearance and will work well to tow your trailer level. This does not have a reputation as having a wobble problem either. Especially if you were to use it with an anti-rattle device like the part # 63232 which will do a great job keeping it tight to the hitch tube.

  • Choosing a Ball Mount with the Right Drop to Tow a Trailer Level with a 2004 Chevy Tahoe
Since you had them measure to the top of the coupler and not the bottom, the trailer will actually be a little lower than the vehicle by however tall the coupler is from the point they measured it. Those rental trailers are usually fairly low too. But since nothing is certain the best option is an adjustable ball mount such as # MT70068 rated for 5,000 pounds. This ball mount has a maximum rise of 6-1/4 inches, minimum of 1-3/4 inches, and maximum drop of 7-1/2 inches, minimum of 3 inches....

For a Ram 1500, the Buyers Products Adjustable Tri-Ball Mount, # 3371802225, will give you nearly six inches of drop and may work for your vehicle, but you are going to need to measure to make sure. To figure out which rise or drop you will need, first park your Ram and trailer on level ground. From there, measure from the ground to the top of the trailer hitch receiver on the Ram. Then measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler on the trailer. You will need a ball mount with...

  • Adjustable 2-Inch Ball Mount to Allow More Clearance for Garaging Boat Trailer
It sounds like you need a ball mount with more than 3-inches of drop to allow your boat's windshield to clear the bottom of your open garage door as you move the trailer inside. If I understand things correctly it is just the combination of the windshield's height and the driveway's angle that are the issue. I suggest an adjustable 2-inch ball mount. One of these will allow you to lower the ball and therefore also the trailer's tongue when you need to garage the boat and trailer and then...

  • Choosing Correct Ball Mount for Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer Towed by 2016 Lexus RX 450h
The linked article on choosing a ball mount explains the measurement process we use, and you're correct that Yakima references the top of the coupler while we use the bottom. You'll measure from the ground up to the top of the level trailer's coupler, and from the ground to the top of the receiver opening. The difference between these is the amount of rise you need, about 3- inches. You can use fixed ball mount # 4285 for 3-inches of rise along with 2-inch ball # A-90. If you like you...
