SHK35VR DIMENSIONAL DIAGRAM

A Solution for Rough Rides

Have you ever hit a bump while towing and had that road shock jostle and shake you all the way down to your bones? It's a common feeling. Most ball mounts are made almost completely of metal, so there's nothing to help soften the shock when you hit a bump. This results in a bumpy, jerky ride that not only takes a toll on you as you drive, but it beats up your equipment too, leading to premature wear and tear on both your truck and trailer.

Fortunately, the Shocker Hitch HD Air will change all that.

Air Bag and Bumper Stop Shock Absorption Technology

Shocker Hitch Air Bag

Using a built-in air bag and rubber cushions, the Shocker Hitch HD Air acts like a small suspension system between your truck and trailer. The air bag and bumpers help absorb road shock, creating a smoother, more comfortable ride while also protecting your truck and trailer from unnecessary wear and tear on the brakes, chassis, trailer frame, and suspensions.

Shocker Hitch Bumper Cushion

The body of the Shocker Hitch HD Air is designed to pivot back and forth on the shank, kind of like a seesaw or teeter totter, as the air bag, which sits directly beneath your truck's receiver, and the cushioned bumpers take turns absorbing the road shock.

Shocker Hitch Pivot

When you hit a bump and your trailer bounces, the unit pivots so that the air bag can isolate and absorb the energy. When your trailer jerks forward or backward, the 2 cushioned bumper stops help soften the force.

Customize Amount of Shock Absorption

Shocker Hitch Bumper Cushion

Using the easily accessible air valve on the side of the unit, you can adjust the air pressure in the Shocker Hitch Air's air bag to best accommodate your trailer's load. If you're hauling heavy-duty landscaping equipment, for example, you can add air to account for the increased capacity. Once the equipment is unloaded, simply release some air so that your underloaded trailer won't experience a stiff ride.

How to Air Up Shocker Hitch><br class=

Finding the right pressure for your setup is simple. Once you've hooked up your trailer and the tongue weight is pushing down on the hitch ball, there will be a gap between the top of the adjustable channel and bumper.

Image

Shocker Hitch Air Bag PSI><br class=

Inflate the air bag until the bumper rests flush against the top of the hitch. Once the gap is gone, you'll know the air bag has the appropriate amount of air pressure for your load.

If you happen to get stuck in a situation where you're unable to inflate the bag, there's no need to worry; you can still tow your trailer. Without the inflated air bag, you won't get the full benefit of the Shocker Hitch HD Air, but you'll still get some built-in cushion with the bumper stops.

Adjustable Drop Hitch for Towing Different Trailers

How to Adjust Shocker Hitch Height

Adjusting the height of the hitch ball to accommodate for a different trailer takes almost no time at all. Just unclip the adjustment pins and grab the easy-to-grasp handles to remove them. Then slide the ball platform up or down to the desired position. Once you have the correct height, reinsert the pins and secure the clips, and fold back the handles so they're out of the way. Then you're ready to go.

Video Transcript for Review of Shocker Hitch Trailer Hitch Ball Mount - SHK35VR

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com and today we're taking a look at this Shocker HD Air Receiver Hitch with raised ball mount and a two and five, 16 inch ball for a two and 1/2 inch trailer hitch receiver. Now, this heavy duty shock absorbing receiver hitch, provides superior comfort while towing by reducing road shock and chucking using airbag and bumper stop technologies. This hitch features, as you see here, an industrial strength airbag and cushioned bump stops here at the top the dampen chucking and road shock. This hooks your trailer to your tow vehicle with this included raised ball mount and two and five, 16 inch ball. And included with this hitch are these easy to remove pins that have these very large rings that I can fit at least four of my fingers into, to easily grab on to remove and to replace when you're needing to adjust this fall mount. And then on the other side here, we have these large clips.

They're going to make it very easy to remove and to secure your pins. So no more fumbling with small hitch pin heads. And let me go ahead and just give you a brief demonstration of how easy this is to remove these safety clips and these pins to adjust this ball mount. We're gonna rotate this to the other side, by the way, these rings can easily fold back and forth in either direction. If you need to, for whatever reason, move those rings out of your way.

So let me go ahead and remove my pins. I'm just gonna go ahead and lower this a little bit, light up my holes. All right, we're good to go. Now you will get a maximum rise of two inches and then a maximum drop of one inch with this hitch and raised ball Mount is gonna replace my safety clips here. All right, so we are secure and ready to go.

The inside width of this channel is gonna be three and three quarters inches across. And then the distance between the vertical adjustment holes is one inch in between each of those holes. So this is also gonna be compatible with the sharper hitch two inch ball, the sway bar, Mount the raised ball, the clevis mounts, the combination ball, the cushioned drawbar and standard drawbar. All of those attachments of course are sold separately, but can be found under the related products section of this product page. Now this air hitch works like a teeter-totter with the airbag on one end and your trailer coupler on the other end.

And as your trailer exerts force downward, the unit pivots and the airbag absorbs the energy. And when your trailer jerks backward or pushes forward, the two cushioned bump stops, reduce the force for a smoother ride. Now this airbag is easily adjustable for heavier loads you will add more air. For lighter loads, you will let air out and you can do that with this air valve that is here and it comes with this included cap and to determine the correct amount of air to use in the airbag. You just hook your trailer up to your shocker hitch and then load the trailer the way that you are going to tow it, then you will add air until these bump stops begin to compress. And once they begin to compress, then you should have the right amount of air in the airbag for your a mode and you'll be ready to go. On the opposite side there is this grease zerk fitting that is going to allow simple maintenance of this pivot point. Just grease it as you need to. And this is a grade 50 steel plate construction and a cold rolled steel shank. That's gonna provide you maximum durability. The gross towing weight is 16,000 pounds and the tonne weight is 1600 pounds and it's also shot blasted and powder coated, the hitch and the ball mount are. So that's going to prevent rust. The ball, however, is zinc plated to resist that rust and corrosion. So again, this is going to fit two and a half inch trailer hitch receivers. The hitch pin hole diameter is five eighths of an inch. This does not come with a pin and clip to secure this to your hitch receiver of your vehicle. So that would be a separate purchase. However, I would recommend checking out the infinite rule, locking pins for shocker hitch ball Mount for two inch and two and a half inch hitches. You'll get three of those locking pins. One pin will lock and secure your shocker hitch to your hitch receiver of your. at the rear of your vehicle. And then the other two locking pins will replace these pins to lock and secure your attachment to your Shocker hitch. It's a great way to secure your investment in this hitch. You can find those locking pins on our website using item number I R three nine F R. Speaking of those hitch pin holes, the distance from the first hitch pin hole to the center of our ball is gonna be about 10 and a quarter inches. And then the distance from the second hitch pin hole to the center of our ball is gonna be about 11 and a quarter inches. The distance below the receiver tube is gonna be about five inches from the bottom of that receiver tube and just some additional installation tips. This does require a minimum of seven inches clearance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rear most portion of your vehicle. And the receiver opening should be flush with the bumper or protruding from the rear of the vehicle for the best fit. Finally, a two inch shocker air receiver will not fit a two and a half inch hitch. Even with the reducer sleeve as trucks with a two and a half inch hitch have deeper frames. A two and a half inch shocker air receiver as we have here will fit a three inch hitch with a reducer sleeve. Well, that's gonna conclude our look today. I hope it was helpful for you again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me..

  • Will The Rock Tamers Mud Flap System Fit On A Shocker Hitch HD Ball Mount
While your Rock Tamers Heavy-Duty, Adjustable Mud Flap System for 2-1/2" Hitches - Matte Black # ERT00110 will physically fit the shank of the Shocker Hitch HD Ball Mount # SHK35VR, it will also interfere with the design of the shock absorber. As you can see in the attached picture the hub for the Rock Tamers comes into contact with the sidewalls of the mount, preventing it from flexing back and forth to absorb road shock.
