This Weigh Safe ball mount has an easy-to-use, built-in scale that measures your trailer's tongue weight every time you tow. If the scale indicates that your tongue weight is too low or too high, you can adjust it before you head out so that you can complete your journey with the peace of mind that your setup is safe.

What is Tongue Weight?

Tongue weight (TW) refers to the weight that the fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch ball of the tow vehicle. Tongue weight is typically 10 percent - and should not exceed 15 percent - of your gross trailer weight. For example, a 10,000-lb trailer should have a tongue weight between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs. You can adjust the tongue weight of your trailer by removing or adding cargo, or redistributing the load on the trailer. The tongue weight should not exceed the capacity of your tow vehicle, your hitch, or any of your towing components.

Why is Tongue Weight So Important?

Simply put, too little tongue weight can cause trailer sway and too much tongue weight can cause the tow vehicle to perform poorly. You may have difficulty steering, gaining traction, or braking when driving a setup that has too much weight pushing down on the rear of the vehicle. Ultimately, towing with an improper tongue weight can cause you to lose control of your vehicle or cause your trailer to separate from the vehicle.

Built-In Tongue Weight Scale

The Weigh Safe ball mount's built-in scale signals you to adjust your load before you hit the road, resulting in a much safer and enjoyable towing experience. Before this ball mount, gauging your trailer's tongue weight was a hassle. You had to rely on inefficient bathroom scales, make a trip to the weigh station, or purchase a separate tongue weight scale. But with the Weigh Safe's built-in scale, measuring your tongue weight is as easy as coupling your trailer to your ball mount. Simply hook-up your trailer to the Weigh Safe ball mount just as you would any other ball mount. The weight of your trailer will push down on the hitch ball, which in turn pushes down on an internal hydraulic piston that sits on a bed of oil. When the piston drops into the oil, the pressure reading is sent out to the scale.

Easily Adjusts to Fit Your Setup

Adjusting and setting up the Weigh Safe ball mount to work with your specific trailer is easy. First, unlock and pull out the dual pins and remove the platform from the shank. Next, pull out the hitch ball retaining pin from the back of the platform and insert either the 2" or 2-5/16" hitch ball. A 1-7/8" hitch ball (WSB-L - sold separately) is also available. Then reinsert the retaining pin to secure the ball to the platform. Replace the platform and slide it along the shank to the desired height. Insert the dual pins and use one of the included keys to lock the pins in place.

Great hitch. Really needed the full adjustable height to handle the different trailers I own. But I did not want something hanging down below the hitch like you get with a flip over set up that would impact my ability to back up my steep drive if in the lowest position. This hitch was perfect. Plus the integrated locking pins allows me to keep it on all the time without extra locking devices.

I needed a new drop down hitch for my 2020 Ram 2500. I searched several sites and when I found the Weigh Safe hitch I knew my search was over. This hitch looks great on the website, but it was even more impressive when I received it. This hitch is a beast! It will handle anything I will ever ask of it. The ball mount is adjustable to any height - I won't have to worry about unlevel trailers again like I did with my old standard 7" drop down hitch. Outstanding hitch, and well worth the investment.

etrailer.com has EVERYTHING! This hitch is excellent! Towing safety is a must. Knowing your tongue weight is a big key to making sure that your vehicle and your load are in the "sweet spot". Too much tongue weight can cause a lack of steering control. Too little and you can cause the trailer to swing. With this hitch no scale is needed, just hook up, check the dial, make any adjustments and your off.
The etrailer customer service is 2nd to none.

Wanted a Class V adjustable hitch for my F350. The aluminum Weigh Safe 2-1/2" Hitch is just what I needed for my 2 trailers. Easy to adjust the ball height for each trailer. The 12,500 lb towing capacity is 2x over what I normally tow for a comfortable safety margin.

Looks great! Do you have any issues with the drawbar scraping the ground? How many inches of clearance do you have below it? I have a stock 4x4 F250, with about a 21.5 hitch height, and debating whether to go for the 10 or the 8 . I could use the 10 for a couple of low trailers, but worry about scraping it and weakening it when towing my big trailers that dont need as much . Thanks.

For MotoKrome, I previously owned an F250 and it does not sit as high in the rear, about 3-4 difference. I would suggest going with the 8 . I checked the clearance on a couple of curbs with my F350 and have several inches of clearance. I especially like the tongue weight readout on the hitch.

Ordered the Weigh Safe drop ball mount WS10-25. Product I received looks used. The Weigh Safe sticker was missing and the hitch had gouge marks on the shaft and ball mount. This was probably a return item that was shipped to me. I'm very disappointed. For $309 I expect a new product, not a returned restock or used item in poor quality.

First time buying at etrailer. Most likely my last.

Great product. This hitch was exactly what I needed. We do a lot of off-roading, and I bring different machines depending on what type of trip we are taking. Being able to dial in my tongue weight when I run different set ups on my trailer is worth its weight in gold. It is HEAVY DUTY, quality is top notch, and it looks great. Everyone notices it, and asks about it. Now that I've used for a year, I don't know that I could go back to using a hitch without a scale in it. It is that useful.

I’m not very impressed with this product, the claim to fame here was the built in scale and that failed after about the fourth use, I like the hitch though, so I would recommend buying the model that doesn’t have the scale in it, cheaper and more reliable. Also, corrosion seems to be a problem with this hitch, so you’ll have to keep it lubed up to slow down the process.

i looked at a lot of different ball mounts for my F250 trying to find one as heavy duty as the truck with the correct amount of drop and didn't look like a 60 pound steel anval hanging from the rear bumper when I came across the WS10-25 with 14500# towing capability in stylish aluminum construction 10" drop (which is just what I needed for my enclosed motorcycle trailer) 11" rise reversible so that it stores under the bumper out of the way when not in use and The tongue weight gauge built right in I couldn't wait to get it on my truck!!

Tongue weight scale doesnt work all that well until you get more than 200lbs on it. Fairly quiet hitch though. I like the 90 degree pivot option to get it out of the way when not in use.

I have a 2019 F350 with the stock 2 12 receiver that comes on the truck. The hitch was rocking up and down considerably on the receiver and making a lot of noise so after towing a few times I pulled it out and noticed the bottom side of it was getting pounded and fairly deep groves were forming. I actually did call e trailer and spoke to someone about this and also sent pictures as well. When I got the answer back they said there was nothing wrong with it, which I couldnt believe and told me to buy a rattle clamp if I wanted to solve the problem. I then bought one of the Gen Y anti-rattle clamp which did stop it completely. What upset me was I needed to spend another $XX.00 for a problem with the product. It is obvious that the dimension of the hitch is considerably smaller then the receiver to cause this issue and with it being aluminum it just makes it worse. I cant imagine what it would be like by now if I didnt buy and install the collar. Now I need to leave the hitch in all the time because it is such a pain to deal with the hitch and collar every time, the collar has to be hammered in to stop the rocking and then be locked in by the set screw. If it was a steel one there would not have been a problem. I dont want to disassemble it now to take pictures because I dont want to disturb the collar that is already been seated into the hitch and set screw tightened. Sorry for the long drawn out response but needless to say I was not impressed by the hitch or the way it was handled

I use this with on my 2015 Chevy 2500 with a 4 inch lift. I pull a 7x12 dual axle dump trailer, 16 foot enclosed trailer along with some smaller trailers. The ease of adjustment with this hitch is terrific, I like the weight scale on the side especially when I'm hauling heavy loads, gives me an idea how my load is sitting. It's definitely a heavy duty unit, solid aluminum however fairly light, and i like how the double locking pins allow for NO play at all in the ball on the mount slide. Very well made and I would Highly Recommend it. If I remember when I ordered this from trailer it was delivered within a few days. All in all everything went fine from ordering to the hitch itself.

Using this hitch on a Ram 2500 to pull a 22' closed trailer. Works extremely well- easy to adjust ball size and height. Like the gauge as it gives an indication of tongue weight. Caution - be absolutely positive you have locked the pin holding the ball unit to hitch bar. If not locked, pin will back out, ball assembly drops, and you will lose trailer. I regularly spray pin locking mechanism with lubricant to wash out road grit, sand, etc.

I purchased a Weigh-Safe for my stacker trailer, and found that it was an excellent tool for helping me learn the ideal way to load my trailer to reach the ideal tongue load. I eventually figured out that my 15,000# trailer needed a load distribution hitch, but I still find that the Weigh-Safe is valuable. I will use it when I have a different load, adjust for tongue weight, and then use the load distribution hitch. Quality is excellent, glad I bought it.

I really like this hitch so far. It is really easy to adjust the height and change the ball size. Being all aluminum makes it easy to handle too. The built in scales is a nice feature to see how much tongue weight is on your truck. With all the different adjustments there's more slop then I would've liked but dosent seem to affect towing in any way. I would definitely recommend this hitch to anyone.

I purchased the heavy duty (2 1/2") Weigh Safe drop hitch from etrailer.com to pull my new enclosed 16' dual axle cargo/toy trailer and whatever else I need to give tow too. The confidence that my trailer load is distributed correctly and secure is priceless. The appearance and functionality when mounted on my 2015 Ford F250 King Ranch is great due to the super fit and finish. Someone told me that it looked expensive, my reply: as it should, mounted on a new truck. LOL!. I really like how the ball mount can be positioned under the truck and not be a hazard when not in-use. With the 10" adjustable drop, probably the last hitch I will need.. :-)

For your 2019 F250 I recommend the Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount w/ Built-In Scale with 10" Drop, 11" Rise # WS10-25. It's ideal to have your trailer level when towing, but sometimes that's not easily possible. Having the nose point up too much, can cause the tongue weight to be low enough that the trailer may begin to sway, so nose down is a better option. Has Weight Safe 2 Ball Mount with Built in Scale Been Durability Tested
I spoke with my contact at Weigh Safe and he said the Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount w/ Built-In Scale # WS10-25 has been cycle and fatigue tested and is guaranteed to endure more than 75000 loads. The scale manufacturer guarantees the scale will never be more than 50 lbs off but Weight Safe testing found it was never more than 5 lbs off.

When the scale of the Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount w/ Built-In Scale # WS10-25 was designed they had the type of bumps and changes in load like you mentioned in mind and made it heavy duty enough to handle what you described. As long as you are under the weight capacity of this ball mount (2,200 lbs tongue weight) you would not need to worry about any bumps or rough road conditions damaging the scale. I'd go with the 10 inch drop version of the Weigh Safe part # WS10-25 that you referenced. It's pretty common to see trailer coupler heights around 15 inches and this would get you a drop right at that height. It's possible you wouldn't ever need that much drop but if you are buying an adjustable ball mount to basically cover all possibilities you may as well get one you know is going to work for everything.

We have the Draw Tite ball mount part # 45291 that fits a 2-1/2 inch hitch like what you have and has an 8 inch drop which is the closest fixed ball mount we have to 10 inches of drop. If you went with an adjustable ball mount that had about 8 inches of drop you'd have your bases covered for the most part. Some trailers are as low as 17 inches and some around 20. But it really does just depend on what you plan to tow. The Weigh Safe Ball Mount part # WS10-25 would work if you had a 2-1/2 inch hitch as it has a 10 inch drop, but if you have a 2 inch hitch instead you'd want the # WS8-2 most likely as it instead has a drop of 8 inches and fits a 2 inch hitch.

I spoke with my contact at Weigh Safe regarding the process of removing the seized lock from your existing Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount # WS6-2. She actually sent me an official instructions page that walks through the removal, which I have attached. A center punch (or sturdy screwdriver), hammer, and a table vice to make things easier is all that you should need.
