This Weigh Safe ball mount has an easy-to-use, built-in scale that measures your trailer's tongue weight every time you tow. If the scale indicates that your tongue weight is too low or too high, you can adjust it before you head out so that you can complete your journey with the peace of mind that your setup is safe.
Tongue weight (TW) refers to the weight that the fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch ball of the tow vehicle. Tongue weight is typically 10 percent - and should not exceed 15 percent - of your gross trailer weight. For example, a 10,000-lb trailer should have a tongue weight between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs. You can adjust the tongue weight of your trailer by removing or adding cargo, or redistributing the load on the trailer. The tongue weight should not exceed the capacity of your tow vehicle, your hitch, or any of your towing components.
Simply put, too little tongue weight can cause trailer sway and too much tongue weight can cause the tow vehicle to perform poorly. You may have difficulty steering, gaining traction, or braking when driving a setup that has too much weight pushing down on the rear of the vehicle. Ultimately, towing with an improper tongue weight can cause you to lose control of your vehicle or cause your trailer to separate from the vehicle.
The Weigh Safe ball mount's built-in scale signals you to adjust your load before you hit the road, resulting in a much safer and enjoyable towing experience. Before this ball mount, gauging your trailer's tongue weight was a hassle. You had to rely on inefficient bathroom scales, make a trip to the weigh station, or purchase a separate tongue weight scale. But with the Weigh Safe's built-in scale, measuring your tongue weight is as easy as coupling your trailer to your ball mount. Simply hook-up your trailer to the Weigh Safe ball mount just as you would any other ball mount. The weight of your trailer will push down on the hitch ball, which in turn pushes down on an internal hydraulic piston that sits on a bed of oil. When the piston drops into the oil, the pressure reading is sent out to the scale.
Adjusting and setting up the Weigh Safe ball mount to work with your specific trailer is easy. First, unlock and pull out the dual pins and remove the platform from the shank. Next, pull out the hitch ball retaining pin from the back of the platform and insert either the 2" or 2-5/16" hitch ball. A 1-7/8" hitch ball (WSB-L - sold separately) is also available. Then reinsert the retaining pin to secure the ball to the platform. Replace the platform and slide it along the shank to the desired height. Insert the dual pins and use one of the included keys to lock the pins in place.
The Weigh Safe ball mount can be used in either the drop or rise position to best suit your application.

I spoke to the Weigh Safe company and they told me that the scale reads correctly if the tongue weight is 500lbs or more. So, what good is it if you have a boat or snowmobile trailer that is under 300lbs of tongue weight! I gave it three stars because it is well built but is useless to me to determine my correct tongue weight. The company has to design something for lighter applications or offer different changeable scales.
Jenny N - 02/09/2022Until you see this hitch in person, it's hard to appreciate the high quality look and feel. It looks like it was made for an airplane, forged aluminum, well engineered. I used mine just a few days ago to tow my new tilt trailer home. The scale only showed about 100# or so but the trailer was empty. It was easy to adjust for the correct height and that feature will be handy when we get a different horse trailer. I also bought the locking hitch pin. Wish I had know to get them keyed alike but not a big deal. Tim was a big help in selecting this hitch and locking pin.
Richard - 04/06/2020This hitch work fine as far weighing the trailer tongue weight but it has developed a lot of slack in all the connections and joints. When you stop or start it’s like a freight tran stopping and starting along with all the crashing and banging, very annoying to say the least.
Jenny N - 01/13/2022Slick, and it doesn't leave you guessing what the tongue weight is on any item loaded onto the trailer. Very well built. BTW, George and the folks at Etrailer are superb. I placed an order at night on a weekend, and George was already looking at the order to see if one of the items ordered could be substituted with another product if I didn't want to wait on the original part. These folks ship about as fast as anybody on the web, and I have never received a bad unit/part or anything else.
Murray T - 01/30/2022Looks great, definitely adds a touch of class to what is ordinarily an unsightly part of the vehicle. I'm suspicious about the accuracy of the scale, as the entire range is large and any particular vehicle or trailer is only going to use a small faction of the whole scale, and the indicator doesn't move very much within that range.
Robert - 02/07/2022This seemed like overkill at first, but the ability to easily see the hitch weight and adjust trailer load if needed has provided an additional level of comfort in pulling a larger RV.
Love this hitch. Watching the video on the etrailer site is what sold me on the product and it’s exactly the way it was presented. We have 2 trucks of different heights and 3 trailers that use 2” and 2 5/16” balls. Changing out the different hitch balls takes about 30 seconds... No vise needed, no huge wrenches to torque the nut down. I also purchased the available locking receiver pin, keyed the same as the adjustable hitch pin lock.. I also am very happy to know exactly what my trailer tongue weight is. Easy to use, lightweight, multipurpose, and looks pretty cool, too.
When I switched tow vehicles from a Silverado to a Durango SRT I had to be a lot more conscious of tongue weight. The adjustability in this hitch and the tongue weight scale let me set up each trailer to tow flawlessly behind the Durango SRT.
This is very well made hitch ( that shipped quickly as per usual, thanks etrailer!). The height adjustment is straightforward and the locking mechanism easily manipulated. The only "negative" is that the scale could be more clearly marked- I found it tough to read differences of less than a few hundred pounds.
This product does not disappoint. I just received it today. Fit and finish are superior even to my strict standards. One thing that is different about the unit compared to the published pictures is that the tang that inserts into the receiver is squared off as opposed to angular as shown in the pictures. I prefer this squared look/style much more. I am very anxious/excited to use this hitch. Only time will tell how the scale function will last. Based on the quality machining and fitment, I am betting it will last a long time. AMERICAN MADE!!!!

William - 01/17/2022This is my second purchase of the Weigh Safe hitch. I had to buy a smaller one because I traded trucks and the 3" shaft was too large for the new truck's receiver. The first one I had was used around 3 years and I was 100% satisfied with it so it was an easy decision for this purchase.
Constantly changing trailers and loads this hitch has been fabulous. A quick glance at the meter and I know exactly what my tongue weight is and always pull with the knowledge that the trailer is properly loaded and my tongue weight is appropriate. You will want to add some sort of "anti-clunk" damper as it is a noisy hitch. I use rubber rings and a shim to keep the hitch from shifting in the receiver.
Best receiver and ball assembly on the market! The built-in scale told me immediately that my trailer's tongue weight was fine and not overloaded as I had previously thought. Masterfully built and exacting as if it were for the aircraft industry. Forget what it costs and buy it. You won't be disappointed.
Top of the line hitch system that allows you to pull multiple types of trailers, safely. Trying to estimate your weight balance is a fools mission. This hitch, with the scale tells you immediately how much weight you have on the bar. Best yet, the dual ball hitches eliminated changing hitches. Adjustable positions are a must. Too many people use the same hitch for trailers with out doing the proper drop measurements nor do they check on the tongue weight. DO it right and be safe. I see the resale value of this one to be quite high due to lack of competition and quality of craftsmanship. This is NO PIECE OF CHINESIUM. This is a solid made in the USA product. Absolutely impressed.
Considered buying this for quite some time, should have just done it! Now I know exactly what my trailers tongue weight is and it will be helpful in selecting our next vehicle. Our neighbor has also used it and found he was exceeding his trucks tongue weight, but by moving a few things around in the trailer, he's now way under! Excellent product and VERY nicely constructed!
Mostly the mount is used for personal use with a 20' trailer. This is the most amazing ball mount not only for the ability to adjust the height but also being able to keep the tongue weight down. Probably one of my biggest concerns on trailering a vehicle is how much load is on the ball mount/hitch.

I researched the internet for a versatile (yet reasonably-priced) hitch for my Sierra HD. All searches led back to this Weigh Safe hitch on etrailer.com. The hitch is premium quality with excellent machined surfaces, and the built in scale really helps to balance the load for the safest possible tow. I love the fact that I can invert the ball and attach it on the back side of the hitch to eliminate those "shin-busters" when not in use. I also splurged on the locking hitch pin set to ensure that no one else can borrow my hitch, and I love that both locks are keyed the same to eliminate one extra key on my keychain. Tyler - 08/24/2019This is a great hitch if you want to know your trailer hitch weight. It is a bit bulky but works the way it should. Pretty strait forward as far as setting it up.
This product is truely a work of art. I like the ability to easily change the ball height. It’s also very convenient to be able to see the tongue weight as you load the trailer.
This hitch is very well made and intelligently engineered. I like how easy it is to switch out the balls. We are very happy with out purchase.
This ball mount is awesome. I had no idea what my tongue weights have been over the years pulling a few different size trailers. Now I know I need to adjust my bot trailer for more tongue weight.
This works great. This is when I first got it. I am only polling my trailer with one pallet of concrete. The total weight of the trailer plus load was 4,600 lbs. It was easy to see and set my tung weight. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to know there tung weight, but you don't want the hassle of using scales.
