This Weigh Safe ball mount has an easy-to-use, built-in scale that measures your trailer's tongue weight every time you tow. If the scale indicates that your tongue weight is too low or too high, you can adjust it before you head out so that you can complete your journey with the peace of mind that your setup is safe.
Tongue weight (TW) refers to the weight that the fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch ball of the tow vehicle. Tongue weight is typically 10 percent - and should not exceed 15 percent - of your gross trailer weight. For example, a 10,000-lb trailer should have a tongue weight between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs. You can adjust the tongue weight of your trailer by removing or adding cargo, or redistributing the load on the trailer. The tongue weight should not exceed the capacity of your tow vehicle, your hitch, or any of your towing components.
Simply put, too little tongue weight can cause trailer sway and too much tongue weight can cause the tow vehicle to perform poorly. You may have difficulty steering, gaining traction, or braking when driving a setup that has too much weight pushing down on the rear of the vehicle. Ultimately, towing with an improper tongue weight can cause you to lose control of your vehicle or cause your trailer to separate from the vehicle.
The Weigh Safe ball mount's built-in scale signals you to adjust your load before you hit the road, resulting in a much safer and enjoyable towing experience. Before this ball mount, gauging your trailer's tongue weight was a hassle. You had to rely on inefficient bathroom scales, make a trip to the weigh station, or purchase a separate tongue weight scale. But with the Weigh Safe's built-in scale, measuring your tongue weight is as easy as coupling your trailer to your ball mount. Simply hook-up your trailer to the Weigh Safe ball mount just as you would any other ball mount. The weight of your trailer will push down on the hitch ball, which in turn pushes down on an internal hydraulic piston that sits on a bed of oil. When the piston drops into the oil, the pressure reading is sent out to the scale.
Adjusting and setting up the Weigh Safe ball mount to work with your specific trailer is easy. First, unlock and pull out the dual pins and remove the platform from the shank. Next, pull out the hitch ball retaining pin from the back of the platform and insert either the 2" or 2-5/16" hitch ball. A 1-7/8" hitch ball (WSB-L - sold separately) is also available. Then reinsert the retaining pin to secure the ball to the platform. Replace the platform and slide it along the shank to the desired height. Insert the dual pins and use one of the included keys to lock the pins in place.
The Weigh Safe ball mount can be used in either the drop or rise position to best suit your application.

I've really enjoyed this hitch. I like this because if I set it at the lowest setting I don't worry about snapping the other ball like I would with some of the competitor's options. I have a few trailers, that are widely different in heights need. One is set at all the way to the top, the others are close to the bottom. for my travel trailer I've loved it because I can easily see the weight and have the ability have a good understanding of the weight of the trailer. I also love this for my enclosed trailer for the same reason.
It's easier to adjust the trailer with the "Single" pin. This makes it quicker to adjust height. The ability to adjust balls is a little longer, but that isn't a big enough concern to bring the value of the hitch down.
The one thing that I don't like about this is I have the Rock Tamer Mud Flap, and I love it, but because this is Aluminum it's not my favorite combination. This is not that fault of this hitch. I do kind of wish that I had the steel one for that reason. Overall I'm happy with this purchase. I've towed thousands of miles with it, and it's a dream.

I appreciate the craftsmanship, machining, strength, and security it provides, and that it will not look rusty after a few months of use.
Overall excellent hitch. We pull various trailers and is super easy to change height and ball sizes.

Harvey J - 04/14/2022I haven't done a ton of hauling, but weigh safe gives me peace of mind that my load is balanced and that I have 15% of my trailer's gross weight on my hitch. It didn't come with a locking hitch pin so make sure you order one separately.
Product is very well made. Came in a nice box with foam cut out for each piece. I like that it's adjustable and tells you the tongue weight. Those were the main reasons I went with it.
I cannot say enough about this hitch. It looks great, but performs better. It is capable of handling everything my truck can pull (3500 Duramax). It is configured fast and I dont just mean height, but ball size also. I change from 2 to 2 5/16 constantly and with the one key you can adjust size and height in just a minute or two; literally. I get a lot of compliments from rental trailer folks to heavy equipment renters. I fully endorse this to everyone I talk to. You cannot go wrong with this hitch.

Been use this for a year now tow my 7000 lb boat that with the tongue weight indicator that works just wonderfully also towd my flatbed trailer which has a 2-inch ball and a super simple to switch between ball sizes would highly recommend this product
TIM N - 11/24/2018After reading many reviews, I purchased the Weigh Safe 14.5K 2-Ball Mount with the built-in scale. The mount has worked flawlessly, and being able to check the tongue weight provides a measure of relief that everything is loaded within specifications. Although this wouldn't have mattered two years ago, having broken a rear shock mount on my previous truck from incorrect trailer loading (and the laziness aspect of not re-arranging things) a little over a year ago, I'm a firm believer in knowing things are right now. The second best part of this purchase was the advice given by Diana H. She confidently assured me that what I was ordering was right for my truck (I'd just purchased the truck, and the height/measurement was a concern). I'm glad I got her on the phone, and glad I trusted her experience! Shipping was easy, on-time, and the whole experience with etrailer was very positive. I will buy from them again if/when the need arises.

At first I loved it. The scale is SUPER convenient. What i dont like is the enormous amount of slop in the hitch. i had to put shimes in to fix. It was excessive when 10,000 lbs is on it.
I am also not to thrilled about the 2 aluminum pins that ALL of the weight is sitting on. Also the aluminum hitch showed some maring after one 8,000lbs load and one 10,000 lbs load....the very first 2 loads i used it for. More maring than i am comfortable with.
I will still use it being i spent over $300 for this setup :(
Outstanding product, this is my 2nd one. The only problem is that with the 2 1/2" mount is that you can't use any of the better hitch mounted mud flaps like Rock Tamers or Rock Stars without extensive modifications to the mud flap mounts, (at least on the last 2 generations of GM HD trucks.)
I had to add .040 " of shim between hitch box and top of hitch and added .015" to bottom of the Ball attachment housing to reduce movement. I had read reviews before I purchased and was aware I might have to adjust for wiggle when not pulling a trailer. Happy with purchase. No failures and has performed to my expectation.

My only complaint is that the item received was evidently a returned item. It was not packages as well as I’m sure it was from the factory. Due to poor packaging the finish of the unit was dull and marked up from sliding around in the card board box. The previous owner wrote in the paperwork of the unit the date they originally purchased it. Was several months prior to me purchasing it. Didn’t appear to be used.
Buffing wheel cleaned it up nicely.
I purchased the eight inch drop hitch last year and was very happy with the versatility of switching heights and ball size, since I have 4 trailers with different adjustments and ball sizes. Unfortunately, winter happened, and the salt and sand of Central New York roads caused corrosion to infiltrate the inter workings of the hitch so it was frozen in position and the versatility is gone. We are still working to free it up, but in the meantime, I ordered, and received a new ball mount, just like the other one. In order to keep the full use of the hitch it will require maintaining and protecting throughout the changing seasons and road conditions.
I have not used the hitch yet that's why I only gave it 4 stars but so far but it seems very well made and strong enough to to do what ever I need it to do. Fits perfectly of my 2017 RAM 2500 with no issues. The 8" drop looks to be enough since this truck sits pretty high from the factory. I plan to tow my boat and my at some with this. I can't wait to use it. Very easy to use. Very impressed. Don't waste your time with any other hitch.
Complete garbage. Rattles, scale broke, the aluminum became compressed and slops around. There are three points that move on this hitch and they all clunk. When pulling out and stopping. This crap hitch moved so much it would pulsate my surge brakes on my boat trailer. I am surprised someone has not crashed a surge brake trailer with this rig. Warranty is worthless. Buy 2 steel hitches for a third of the price and have them ever.
Great product. A year later and I'm still happy with the scale and how easy and fast it is to change ball sizes and make height adjustments. The scale really helps take the guess work out of tongue weight when hauling with different trailers and varying loads. The lock still works fine even after all the road salt this winter. Just needs a shot of oil once a year. Highly recommended product.
Very happy with the drop hitch. Received the product within a couple of day from when I placed the order. Beautiful finish on the hitch. Hitch was in great condition.
All components were very well packaged for shipping and there was no damage to the product. Very happy with it so far. Big test will be when I pick up my new travel trailer and put it to the test.

Very satisfied with product, customer service and the supplier. A piece was missing in the box when I received it. I called customer service they in turn contacted the supplier. Whit in 5 minutes the supplier had agreed to overnight the missing part. I received it less than 24 hours from my initial to customer service. The quality and craftsmanship of the product are second to none. And ease of use is very good.
I bought the ball mount for my 2016 Ram 3500, the 8" drop is perfect for the trailers I have. It was delivered in early November, and I have left it on the truck since installation.
I love the mount and the built in tongue weight scale.
I have a couple words of advice.
One, If you have a trailer with smaller tires, under 16" you may want to opt for the 10" drop to keep the trailer level.
Two, the ball may get frozen in to the socket. Mine happened to get stuck, instead of banging on it, I just brought it into the house for 5 minutes and that took care of it.
Lastly, if you are using the mount during the winter, I would recommend removing the ball and socket and keeping it in the cab after use. The lock on mine didn't care for the salt and sand an became stuck, after a bit of fiddling and WD-40 I was able to get the key to turn the lock again, with the help of a pair of pliers. Since then I keep those in the cab and have had no problems since.
I would recommend this to anyone that has a 2.5" receiver.
I've had this for a year and I really like it, I'll never haul without it from now on. I find it amazing how overloaded some guys run their hitches on a regular basis. I rent equipment frequently and just a few days ago they loaded up a dumpbed and skid steer and there was 2500 pounds on my scale, I saw that he had been hauling it with a system that was rated far less than my commercial duty setup (another great purchase from etrailer).
I love the ease of use and the looks and function. The only issues I have are the shank gets pretty beat up in the receiver and I wish they would offer a matching hitch lock so I don't need 2 keys.
Excellent product. Offers the flexibility to match our divers towing needs and the weight scale is so helpful in setting up the trailers in those different situations.
