Ball mount kit arrived quickly (within a few days) upon placing order online. Parts were shipped loose in box and bottom flap on box was open when received. Fortunately, all the parts were still in box and in good condition. Kit includes ball mount hardware I need to pull trailers with different hitch heights.

by:

I ordered the Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches. My order was delivered fast, but it only came with one ball where two were specified. George and Paula got on it immediately and I received the missing ball in just 3 days. Nice recovery team! I would have given five stars for the product quality, service, and delivery had it been a complete order from the start, but that said, great service!

by:

This is the one thing I ordered with my hitch, wiring harness, etc. that I'm not sure about. Either the balls are slightly too small or the pins are too small for the hitch I have, so when I haul something, it makes an almost rattling noise. Super annoying! I also haven't needed both size drops. But if I ever do, I'm sure I'll be glad I got it.

by:

My experience sucked with this company. I ordered 1 unit but received and was billed for 2 units. I have 1 car with a hitch and would never need 2. I then attempted to get a refund and return the extra unit I was billed for. Unfortunately. the cost to return the unit by ANY method of shipping available was more than the cost of the unit itself.
Will never use this site again.

I installed the draw tite hitch onto my brand new 2018 Subaru outback. I'm 68 years old, not as strong as I was, but proud to say I did the job all by myself in about 4 hours. Here are some tips you may find useful.
Watch the video-it’s pretty good.
I had difficulty getting the exhaust system down and worried about getting it up again from the moment I got it down...read on-help will follow.
I bought a stepup drill bit which worked great for drilling the hole in the chasis.
I clamped the hitch onto a floor jack, then rolled it and raised it into position.
Used metal shears to easily cut out the heat shield as per the video.
Your inclination will be the screw the fishing tool provided all the way up the carriage bolt. That won’t work; just screw it on to the tip of the bolt.
I couln’t get the exhaust hangars in place even after lubricating them with wd-40. I dropped the rubber hangars into undiluted liquid car wash soap which made them much more slippery than the wd-40. After that the rubber hangars slipped into place pretty easily-that’s my best tip.
Finding the electric connection plug for the wiring harness was almost as hard as installing the hitch. I was very happy with how the job came out. Good luck.

by:

I probably overkilled with tis kit, but I am ready for just about anythng now! I was somewhat surprised to find a 250 ft-lb requirement on the ball! Best I could do was use my 18" pipe wrench and stand on the thing- I probably got to 250- or more!

by:

This kit is exactly what I needed. I have two trailers one with a 1 7/8 and the other is 2. This allows me the option of just swapping out hitches. The bag also can hold the 7 pole to flat 4 adapter.

by:

Great products, Fantastic service and very fast shipping. We are already placing another order.

by:

You will not find one of these hitch set ups at a retailer for the price of this kit.

by:

The customer service was polite and knowledgeable in their recommendations. The package delivered complete and without incident and install was a breeze. the only reason for the four stars instead of five is for the competitiveness of their pricing.

Has held up very well and have had no issues at all.

by:

DON'T KNOW IF I WILL NEED THEM BUT I HAVE IT JUST IN CASE AND THE BAG CAME A FEW DAYS LATER. LOOKS LIKE THEY WILL WORK WELL

by:

Good value and having the 2 options saved us because the higher rise ball mount did not work with the accessory bike rack and I was able to go with the lower rise instead.

by:

Superb quality and this accessory completes the trailer hitch by allowing me to haul anything from moving trailers to boats. Will buy from here anytime I need extra accessories. Thank you.

by:

Great product, easy installation, arrived on time, boxed well

by:

I am very pleased with the products I received and the customer service. Everything fit perfectly. I would order again.

by:

Pros
Well built
Cons
Probably
cheaper soemwhere else
Rather pay 80 and it come with a j pin, then e trailer wouldve no doubt be top dog on hitch deals.

by:

I've had my hitch for a year now and have been very happy with it. It is strong and easy to use. Being a young woman it was a little intimidating for me to tow a trailer, but I feel confident in the product and haven't had any issues with it.

by:

The hitches and balls are great. They haven't rusted and they do what they're supposed to do. Plus, having both mounts allowed me to figure out which height was best to go with my receiver/trailer setup.

Now, would I get it again? No. Why? Because having the two different drops/rises and ball sizes doesn't matter once you attach them with the cut washer. At that point, they are almost permanently attached, so unless you have 2 trailers that are both different tongue heights and have different ball sizes, it doesn't really matter. (Though I guess in a pinch, one could get you close enough to handle another trailer.)

by:

Could not have been easier. I was able to find what I needed by looking at just the items for my vehicle. Item arrived days ahead of schedule. Items were well packed. Tongues appears to be well constructed, but they were made in China. Sturdy pins and a handy bag with enough room for your wrench besides. Very happy with my purchase and good to do business with a local company, too.

by:

Solid piece of hardware! On my '06 Outback the install was easy and Subaru knew their drivers would want to do this. Stood up to towing canoes in and out of a backcountry trail and I've let friends borrow this set as well. Good product, no complaints so far.

by:

Seems like good quality!

by:

The 2in tube is lighter than a solid bar, but not as strong. I am planning to use it on a lighter vehicle so this is fine for me. But if you are intending to use it for a more stressful application it might not be adequate for your application.

by:

Haven’t used it yet, but looks good. I’m not sure what height offset I need, so this kit gives me several options, plus two ball sizes. Really good value.

by:

Thank you for the informative video instructions as well as helpful / honest reviews to research prior to making the purchase. I do not have anything to add that has not been covered in the reviews. Here is a recap of my experience that has been consistent with others.

1. Box was received with the driver side of the hitch pushed out. Only minor scratches which you can not see when installed and it did not impact the installation. Wrapping each end would probably be a good idea as stated in other reviews.

2. Removing 14 years of rust was the hardest part of the install (from the passenger side holes). Total time was approximately 1 hour as others have experienced. I used the bolts from the factory tie hook to work out the rust using 1/2" round wire brush attached to a cordless drill along with a full can of WD-40.

3. Installation of the hitch took about 30 minutes with assistance of a foot stool.

4. Plug-n-play electrical connector took about 10 minutes after watching the video.

5. Perfect fitment, fast delivery, easy website ordering experience and follow-up status notifications, and I can not be more pleased with the cost being under $200 for a DIY project.

I required this setup to tow a ~1,000 lb motorcycle trailer with a ~1,000 lb motorcycle next week and my Honda has a 3,500 lb towing capacity.

Thank you etrailer.com!

  • Determining Best Ball Mount for 2019 Toyota Tacoma
The etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit # 989900 referenced in your question includes two different ball mounts, one with a 3/4 inch rise or a 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. In order to ensure that one of these units will be sufficient to tow your trailer(s) level will depend on the coupler height of your trailer (in addition to the hitch receiver height on your Tacoma). • How to Pick Out Ball Mount for 2016 Mercedes Benz GLE
I attached an FAQ that details how to pick out the correct ball mount. Picking out the correct ball mount will allow your trailer to sit as level as possible. Basically you will first measure the height from the ground to the top of the receiver opening on the hitch while on level ground. Next, you will measure the coupler height from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler when the trailer is on level ground. Next, you will need to compute the difference. If the hitch height is...

  • Determining Correct Ball Mount to Use for Towing Load Rite Trailer with 2012 Honda Pilot
When determining the needed rise or drop to tow the trailer level with your 2012 Honda Pilot, you will just want to take a couple measurements. First, with the trailer parked on level ground, you will take a measurement from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. I was unable to locate this measurement on your Load Rite trailer in my research, but you should be able to get this information from the dealer since it doesn't sound like you have it on hand yet. • Does Length of Ball Mount Affect Tongue Weight on Hitch Ball
The length of the ball mount used in a trailer hitch does not affect the amount of tongue weight (TW) applied to the hitch ball by the trailer, but it does affect the amount of stress applied to the hitch's receiver tube by the ball mount. A very long ball mount would apply MORE pressure to the hitch tube than a shorter one, much in the same way that adding a cheater bar to a tire iron (to make it longer so you have more leverage) will allow you to put more pressure on the lug nut.
