Video Transcript for Detailed Breakdown of the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball-BWHB94004

Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com and today we're gonna take a brief look at this B&W two and five 16 inch hitch ball. This hitch ball is going to give you a connection point for your trailer's coupler and it has fine threads, actually 12 threads per inch, that's going to give you a tight and strong grip. And this is made here in the USA of heat treated steel, so it's strong and durable. It has a weight capacity of 30,000 pounds and it does have a raw steel finish to it. Now you are going to get this two and five 16 inch hitch ball.

The lock washer and the nut are also included. And if we take a measurement of the shank length from the bottom of the platform to the end of the threads, lining up my ruler there. Looks like we're sitting right at two and a half inches. And then just the threaded portion, we are sitting right at, right about one and three quarters of an inch. And then the shank diameter is going to be right at one and a quarter inches.

Now when installing this, you're just going to place this through the ball hole on your ball mount, followed by the lock washer that goes underneath and then the nut. And then you would just need to torque this down to the specifications listed by your manufacturer. Well, that's gonna conclude our brief look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy.

Thank you for joining me..

Probably need to secure things like the Hitch Ball better. When my package arrived the package was damaged and the ball was missing.
Other than that, I still highly recommend etrailers!

by:

Great product heat treated using high strength alloy & made in the USA!
There are many others that are from American companies, but they are imported and I really don't trust their strength claims.

by:

Heavy duty ball hitch. Heavy enough for anything.

by:

Exactly as ordered, shipped and delivered in a expedient amount of time. Have never been disappointed by etrailer.

by:

This was my second order from your company and tye product was falling out of the shipping container!!!
I even called to ask you to make sure the product was SECURE… but your shipping department failed…AGAIN.
This will likely be my last order from etrailer.

by:

Great pricing fastservice.

by:

Very good heavy duty rating which is what I wanted. Etrailer was great to work with.

by:

I love the product demonstrative videos, and the service is excellent every time!

by:

That is one massive ball. Pulking my 12K toy hauler I'll never need to worry about breaking this thing.

by:

Great selection of parts, great service, quick shipping, and high quality of parts.

by:

This ball is hard as hell.

by:

So far, so good. Just make sure you get yourself a REAL big socket - the nut on this thing is GIGANTIC. My 15" adjustable wrench wouldn't even open far enough. I used a monkey wrench (adjustable plumber's wrench) with a 4' cheater bar on it to tighten. I work on small engines, not diesels, so nothing I had was big enough. Just FYI ...

Put over 10k towing miles on it - still good. Surface rust because its unpainted, but thats going to happen with raw, unpainted steel in the Northeast. I keep the top half greased with Amsoil off-road 2, and all is well.

by:

Great quality. I have no problem paying for Made in USA, and am grateful
to have the option.

by:

This is a great Product

by:

Exactly what I needed for the food trailers we produce!
Heavy tongue weights are now controlled.

by:

Great value. Nothing fancy but as you know….. it’s a Hitch Ball destined for dirty hard work.
Works great. The product you don’t think about as it just works.

by:

Its a trailer ball. Worked with a 13K load no problems after it was greased. It was a good deal for the price.I would purchase another one if I needed one.

by:

This is a very well made tow ball. Fit and finish is nice - oxide finish, no paint or plating, which is fine by me. I like that it is of domestic origin.

Order was processed by eTrailer quickly. It took over 5 days to arrive (I paid for 3-5 day shipping), but I suspect that was UPS / holiday shipping issue.

by:

Working well

by:

B&W makes great American made products! Thank you for selling them. P.S. i don't work for B&W either. Great raw high strength ball. Period

by:

The Best hitch ball available anywhere

by:

Wanted a "Made in USA" product. This was overkill for our needs, but it will last forever. Can develop minor surface rust, but not enough to be a nuisance.

by:

Sure aughta handle my load and then some, real quality material. The biggest part of this transaction is the attention to detail by e-trailer, great people.

by:

Built like a tank, it looks like its milled from one single piece of metal. Really fine smooth threads like I haven't had before on a hitch. High quality.

by:

Good strong ball... highly recommended for heavy trailers

  • How Much Does the TorkLift # TL49YR Weigh?

  • Are there Any Benefits to Using a Higher Rated Hitch Ball With a WDS
Stan, there aren't any benefits to using a higher rated ball like the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # BWHB94004 you were looking at, but there also aren't any disadvantages either. The only thing you'd need to take into consideration is that you're always limited by your lowest rated component. So, if your entire system is only rated for 10,000 lbs then using a ball rated for 30,000 isn't going to give you more capacity, you'd still be topped out at 10,000. As for finishes go, a chrome finish...

  • Will the B and W Hitch part # BWHDRH25132 Fit a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 6 foot Bed
Yes, the B and W Heavy Duty trailer hitch part # BWHDRH25132 that you referenced is a confirmed fit for your 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 6 foot bed that has either a standard or step bumper. For a heavy duty hitch with as much capacity as this hitch has you really aren't going to find a better deal. For a ball mount you would want the part # BWBMHD30010 and then for a 2-5/16 inch ball part # BWHB94004.

  • Will B & W Heat-Treated Hitch Ball Work in Gooseneck Hitch?
When I reached out to B & W regarding your question, they advised me that the product # BWHB94004 is not rated for use with a gooseneck. That product is made more for a hitch ball opening on a bumper and it is a threaded application. I have linked all the Gooseneck hitch balls we have available.

The Curt 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40085 is made overseas, though we do have a similar hitch ball that is made in America, the B&W # BWHB94004. Like the Curt hitch ball, the B&W is 2-5/16", has a 1-1/4" shank and a 30,000 lb towing capacity. The shank on the B&W is 2-1/2" long, which is 1/8" shorter than the shank on the Curt ball.

  • Will a Trailer Hitch Ball with a Raw Finish Last as Long as a Ball with a Chrome Finish
A chrome finish ball is going to look good but it will not be corrosion resistant. A ball with a machine finish like # C40041, is going to have about the same corrosion resistance. In terms of performance they will wear at about the same rate under normal use. The best balls in terms of corrosion are going to be stainless steel followed by zinc coated balls. But in terms of balls that have a 30,000 pound capacity and a 1-1/4 inch shank, ball # BWHB94004 or # C40085 are the only options....

  • What is the Country of Origin for Curt Trailer Hitch Ball # C40030
The Curt trailer hitch balls are all made in China. Many trailer hitch receivers too are made outside the U.S. but Curt does manufacture their hitches stateside. The 2-5/16-inch hitch ball you referenced, Curt # C40030, has a 15K gross trailer weight capacity. For a comparably-rated 2-5/16-inch chrome-plated ball that is made here in the U.S. you can use B&W part # BWHB94004. This is rated for 30,000-lbs. Its shank is 1-1/4-inches in diameter and 2-1/2-inches long.

The 2-1/2 inch shank length on B&W ball # BWHB94004 might be just a bit too short for ball mount # C45458. The recommended ball, # C40008, has a shank length of 2-3/4 inches. Basically the shank has to be long enough for the nut to thread all the way on with about 3 or more threads sticking out past the bottom of the nut.
