Today we're going to review part number BWHB94050, this is the BMW 2 5/16 hitch ball. This is a long shank design, has a nice chrome finish with a 16,000 pound weight capacity. This chrome plated hitch ball will provide a connection point for your trailer's coupler. The threads on the shank are a fine thread, which is 12 threads per inch, helps provide a tight, strong grip. The chrome plated finish helps as a chrome plated steel finish, which will help resist corrosion. It does include the lock washer and the 1 7/8 inch size nut.
As you can see, 1 7/8 inch wrench is needed to tighten this down. The ball diameter itself is 2 5/16. The shank dimensions, let me show you the measurement on that. The length of the shank, from right here to the very bottom of the mount is 2 1/2 inches. The diameter of the shank is 1 1/4, and again the weight capacity, which is stamped on the very top of this ball, is 16,000 pounds. Basically when you go to install this, you just put this onto your ball mount, put your washer on and then go ahead and tighten down your nut, using a 1 7/8 inch size wrench.

Designed for heavy-duty towing.The B&W 2 5/16" ball is of a high quality build, just what I would expect. My only concern is that the base of the ball has no flat grab sides for a wrench to hold it still while the nut is being tightened. Once I got it as tight as I could, both the nut, shank and ball rotated as one. I did not want to use a pipe wrench to hold the base of the ball and gouge tool marks into the metal and finish. Something with this much weight rating, I think, should be able to be tightened down to a recommended torque spec, which was absent from the mounting instructions. I tightened it as much as I could and put a torque stripe along the mount, nut and threads... So far, it has not moved. Other than that, I think its great.

I selected this ball to equip a heavy-duty W/D hitch system that I was buying for my new truck. I didn't actually need equipment with this much capacity given that our current trailer only weighs ~5200 lbs loaded, but I didn't want to have to replace anything if we upgrade to a much heavier trailer since the truck can easily handle anything that I'd ever dare to tow. This ball is still in perfect condition (I keep it clean & greased), and the only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is that it was impossible to tighten fully to spec since it didn't have opposing "flats" on the base to put a wrench on and keep it from turning while torqueing the nut down.

Weve been using this hitch ball for over a year now, and its still in like new condition. Keeping all of the contact surfaces wiped clean and covered lightly with moly grease certainly helps, but the high-grade steel alloy and durable chrome plating probably deserves most of the credit for its excellent performance thus far.

Just what I needed
Rachel B was awesome to deal with. I ordered this hitch ball and received it quickly through UPS. When I tried to install it the threads were burred that caused the nut to seize and not fully tighten. I called eTrailer and talked to Rachel B who promptly addressed the issue and sent me out a new ball which works flawlessly. The ball is of very high quality and very well made. Worth every penny. It's rated for 16,000 pounds versus China made Reese Tow Ready balls are only rated 10,000??? I also purchased this ball because it's made in the USA!!!! Will purchase again soon from eTrailer!
I wanted to purchase a ball and mount for hauling up to 14000# and wanted them made in the US. Etrailer had exactly what I wanted, communication was great and shipping was fast. I've used the Convert-a-Ball cushioned mount before on a smaller trailer, but I couldn't believe how great it worked with a heavier trailer. I'm really happy with my purchase. Thanks.

This ball hitch is extremely well made and durable. Handles my towing needs readily. Rated 4 stars only, as it would be a HUGE improvement to have flat-sided base to be able to get a wrench on for installation.
Nice product. Wrench flats would be handy but I don't plan on removing it. A friend with a big truck repair shop is handy. Not everybody has a torque wrench that will do 415 ft lbs.
Great USA-made quality. That's what I was looking for. Very happy with this ball. The only reason I gave 4 stars is the fact that I would have really liked a way to put a wrench on the flange but since it is rounded I can't. Other than that - great!

Very nice, heavy duty and worth the extra couple of bucks, plus Made in USA.
There is no method of securing the ball while tightening the nut (i.e. no flat spots on the base). I am unable to tighten the nut to have at least one thread show, let alone to the proper torque. I will probably have to mangle the ball just trying to remove it so that it can be replaced (in a hurry) with a suitable ball before this weekend.
High quality product, I have worked it hard and it is hold up very well!

Our installers typically wrap the trailer ball with a rag or towel so that they can get a good grip on the ball but not damage the finish.
