Video Transcript for Curt Chrome Hitch Ball Review

Hey, everybody. Welcome to etrailer.com. I'm Bobby, and today we're taking a look here today at the CURT inch 7/8 ball with chrome plating. Now you are going to have a 3/4 inch shank diameter, so that's the kind of draw bars you guys are going to need to go ahead and get it mounted. Well, we are going to also have a 2000 pound gross trailer, weight capacity with this, which makes it great for things like your class one to class two hitches of course, 'cause it would kind of stay in well within that weight capacity. So of course let's make sure we are checking both our vehicle rating, our hitch rating, of course, and B let's make sure we are getting a good measurement on those trailers to make sure we're not exceeding those.

You guys need a little help with any of those kind of measurements or kind of getting the weights of all those guys, go ahead, peruse around etrailer.com, we got a great little self-help article section to make sure that you are conscious and aware of what you're towing. Since we do have our inch and 7/8 ball here today, we're going to go ahead and utilize our inch and 7/8 template. So I'm going to bring it up, set it right on there. Give it a nice push to make sure it's on there and then took my lock here, can simply press down just like so, there we are nice and locked in. Of course let's make sure we're doing a good job of, of course, using our safety chains to make sure we have a safe towing experience and at this point too, you could go ahead and put your trailer wiring in as well.

Unfortunately for our neighborhood today, they don't have one yet, but other than that, it looks like we're ready to tow. Overall guys, I think this is going to be a great little way of giving yourself a little bit of versatility, right Cause we can go ahead grab our inch and 7/8 ball. We could also grab a 2/4, if we needed 2 inch ball whatever we have at trailer couplers, at home, we can go ahead and get the ball mounts we need to make sure we get it out there. Of course it is going to be dependent on your draw bars as well. So I really do like that we can go ahead and no matter what our rise or drop is with the clutter of all in, or we can go ahead and change our balls out for our varying coupler sizes.

Really, really nice that we have the availability to us. Which is gonna make it really easy to take it on and off. Now again, mounting it takes a little bit of effort. I will give you that, I myself might go ahead and invest in a few tools to go ahead and actually clamp this on. It just is a little bit wider than a lot of those normal wrenches are going to be in a toolbox at home.

ABICE again works really, really well as we saw, but again, not all of us are going to have that at home. So I'll leave that up to you guys to have the wearable thought to go ahead and actually get it on here. But otherwise I think that about does it for our look, here today at the Curt inch and 7/8 ball with chrome plating @etrailer.com. I'm Bobby..

The winch and trailer ball seem to be good quality for the price. I’m happy with this purchase. The five stars are for the service I received and the very fast processing and shipping. I’ll be happy to do more business with etrailer for future needs.

It works well and is as described so it fit perfectly. What more can one want from a hitch ball? lol.

The Curt ball mount was exactly what I ordered and prompt shipping was really appreciated

Received item as advertised in a timely manner. Will certainly do business again as needed in the future. Will certainly recommend.

Easy installation. Helps to have two people, however, I installed it alone with the help of jack stands. I highly recommend the Curt receiver. I have another Curt receiver on my 2011 Honda Accord that I also purchased from etrailer.com. I just finished hauling a load of bush and tree trimmings to the dump with my utility trailer. Attached is a close up photo of the receiver in use.

Works as designed.

Keep up the good worK.

I bought this ball and drawbar to attach to my Polaris Sportsman ATV to pull my trailer around. The drawbar was a perfect fit to raise up the trailer and level it. Well made product, welded nicely to the smaller receiver bar and is perfect for what I needed. I would recommend this product.

This ball is made in China not USA as advertised. Steve did take care of it when I called and said he would have specs changed. All in all a good place to shop hopefully they will get another manufacturer for ball hitches made in USA

All good mon!!!!!

- C40001
by:

The cost was cheaper than I could find elsewhere. No frills easy to install.

- C40001
by:

Nice quality 1-7/8" hitch ball with short shank that is long enough for the ball mount, but does not hang below the nut by much.

- C40001
by:

Shipped and arrived quickly, and appears to be of good quality. A suggestion: like many others, I don't have a socket big enough for the nut, and my torque wrench only goes to 80 ft-lb (the spec calls for 160). I will have to go to a local garage and have them tighten the ball onto the ball mount. I would have been happy to throw eTrailer a couple of bucks or so to have them do this for me when they filled the order. Please consider offering this service.

These folks have great communication, and the best prices I've been able to find for the products I ordered. When I got the items, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. The kits are complete and have everything needed. I'm quite happy with etrailer.com

the whole set up is excellent, the hitch, wiring harness. easy to do.

- C40001

It is a ball. Nice and shiny. To torque it, install it on the drawbar, put the drawbar into a hitch, and torque.

- C40001
by:

Just fine, shipped with the rest of the order and was on time.

- C40001

Value and selection. Thanks ETrailer.

- C40001

I have had this ball for a year and it still works great. I would definitely buy from etrailer.com again.

- C40001
by:

The ball started to rust pretty quickly, even though I put a bit of grease on the ball and hitch before I ever used it. Functionally it is still a round hunk of metal that does it's job...it just doesn't look very good.

  • How Tall is the Ball Part Only for Curt 1-7/8 Inch Ball 40001
I went out to the warehouse and pulled Curt ball # C40001 to measure it for you. The height of the ball from the ball mount platform to the top of the ball is 2.619 inches which is just a hair under 2-5/8 inches.

  • How to Install Curt Trailer Hitch Ball 40001 in a Ball Mount
To install hitch ball # C40001 you will need a wrench wide enough to fit around the wrench flats on the ball, a torque wrench good for up to 160 foot pounds and a socket for the nut. You could also use a bench vise if you do not have a wrench large enough. You can also put the ball mount in the hitch receiver side ways and then use the wrench and torque wrench to tighten it. If you do not have a torque wrench or socket large enough, many auto parts stores can loan out tools.

  • Hitch Ball Option for a Trailer with a 1-3/4 inch Hitch Ball Coupler
We do not carry any 1-3/4 inch hitch balls. The only option I could recommend for you would be to upgrade the coupler on your trailer to work with the modern ball sizes of 1-7/8, 2, or 2-5/16 inch balls. I attached a page that has all of the couplers we offer plus a page that has all of the hitch balls we carry. I would recommend you check out the couplers and find one that will fit your trailer style and has enough capacity and then find a ball designed to fit that coupler that is also...

  • Is There an Adapter to go From 1-1/4 inch Hitch Size to 2 inch Hitch Size
We do have adapters that are designed to go from a 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch to a 2 inch hitch like the Hitch Adapter part # HTAD. You should note that the tongue weight capacity of your hitch gets cut in half if you use this adapter.

  • Availability of 1-7/8 Inch Hitch Ball With a 1/2 Inch Diameter Shank
We can get you pretty close. The closest thing we offer would be the # C40095 ball from Curt that is a 1-7/8 inch ball with a 5/8 inch shank. If it's possible to enlarge that eye from 1/2 inch to 5/8, I'd recommend going that route. Since you'd only be increasing the hole size by about an 1/8 of an inch, you wouldn't need to worry about removing too much material from the pull bar.

  • Trailer Ball Recommendation for Swagman Trailhead Towing Bike Rack
We do offer some 1-7/8 inch trailer balls with a 3/4 inch diameter threaded shank, but we don't offer one with an exactly-3000 lb weight capacity. We do however offer a 2000 lb capacity ball as part # C40001 which would work well for light-duty towing up to 2000 lbs.

  • What Size Ball Hole do Ball Mounts that Fit 1-1/4 inch Hitches Have
All of the Class II ball mounts out there have a 3/4 inch diameter ball hole. It might be the best solution for you to replace the ball you have with one that will fit that ball hole size like what comes with the # 36065 that you mentioned. For a 2 inch ball you'd need the # C40018 or for a 1-7/8 inch ball # C40001 and you'd be set.

There isn't a specific length ball shank required for ball mount # 36078. It just has to be long enough to have 3 threads or more exposed beyond the nut when tight. If you need a 2 inch ball # C40018 is a popular option. For a 1-7/8 inch ball # C40001 is a popular option.

  • Drawbar Will Not Fit Trailer Hitch On 2004 John Deere Buck ATV
The problem you probably are facing is that you have to use a Class l ball mount in the hitch receiver on your John Deere ATV. The shank on a Class ll ball mount is inserted in the receiver more than on a 1-1/4 inch receiver and the holes will not line up. I went to the warehouse and measured the Curt Class l Drawbar, part # C45021. The distance from the end of the shank that goes in the receiver to the center of the hitch pin hole is 1-1/2 inches. The only hitch we offer for your 2007 Altima is a Class I hitch, which has a 2000 lb towing/ 200 lb tongue weight (the maximum amount of weight that can be suspended from the hitch) capacity. Using an adapter would lower the tongue weight capacity by half. It's a matter of the structure of the vehicle where the hitch attaches not being strong enough.
