Not to be used with a cushioned ball mount.

Towing can be brutal, especially when your setup is outfitted with standard, metal-on-metal components. Steel and aluminum can only absorb so much vibration and chucking, so every time you hit a bump in the road, that shock gets transferred to the rest of your rig, leaving it vulnerable to wear and tear. Another unfortunate side effect is an uncomfortable ride for you and your passengers.

Protect your truck and trailer from road shock, vibrations, and rattling - and stay comfortable while you drive - with the shock-absorbing Curt RockerBall hitch ball.

Shock Absorbing ShockDrop Technology

Curt RockerBall with SockDrop Technology

The RockerBall hitch ball features Curt's innovative ShockDrop technology, which is engineered to suppress vibrations and rattling while you're towing. When you hit a bump, the ball compresses around the flexible, polyurethane core. This durable material absorbs excess shock at the coupling point so that it doesn't transfer from the truck to your trailer or vice versa. The result is increased control and comfort as you tow, as well as less wear and tear on your towing setup.

Premium Construction

Curt RockerBall Construction

This hitch ball is built to last with its forged steel construction and durable powder coat finish. The flexible, shock-absorbing polyurethane core withstands extreme heat for long-lasting performance, and the chrome-plated ball resists corrosion.

Curt RockerBall Zerk Fitting

The built-in zerk allows you to lubricate the isolator core when necessary, ensuring quiet and trouble-free operation.

  • Does The Curt RockerBall Shock Absorbing Hitch Ball Have More Of A Rise Compared To A Standard Ball
You are correct the Curt RockerBall Shock Absorbing 2" Hitch Ball - 1" Diameter Shank - Chrome - 7.5K part # C40047 does have a rise. On a standard hitch ball it sits flush with the ball mount but the RockerBall has the included height of the shock absorber which makes it about 1-1/2" taller than a standard ball. This is important when choosing a ball mount. You want to choose a ball mount that has an additional 2" of drop if your ball mount is in the drop position. For example if your...

  • What if Grease Zerk Breaks Off Curt RockerBall
The ball must be greased when using the Curt RockerBall Shock Absorbing 2" Hitch Ball # C40047. As you can see by the cut out of the linked instructions, if you don't have adequate lubrication the ball can fail so it is imperative you do. The zerk itself isn't replaceable, you need to to replace the RockerBall. Thankfully it sounds like it is new so the ball is under 1-year warranty.

  • Does Curt RockerBall Shock Absorbing 2 Inch Hitch Ball Fit Channel Style Adjustable Ball Mount
Yes, the RockerBall and channel style ball mount you asked about are absolutely compatible: - Curt RockerBall Shock Absorbing 2" Hitch Ball # C40047 - Curt Channel Style Adjustable Ball Mount # C45901 The reason is, the ball mount accepts a hitch ball with a shank that has a 1" diameter and is at least 2-1/8" long, which is exactly the shank dimensions of the RockerBall. I have added links to video reviews of both parts for you to check out as well.

  • Aluminum Ball Mount and Cushioned Hitch Ball for Use with 2021 Kia Telluride
Two inches of rise would be the ideal amount based on the height differences you mentioned. When you can't get an exact number it's best to go a little taller since there would be some suspension sag from the tongue weight of the trailer. The rise/drop figure of a ball mount like the # DTBM4200 is factored with a standard hitch ball so you would not need to further calculate in a balls height as well unless you went with a taller ball. Now in the case of the Rockerball # C40047 this ball...

  • Will Curt C40047 RockerBall Shock Absorbing Hitch Ball Eliminate Most Hitch Rattling
Going with the # C40047 Curt Rocker Ball will help isolate some of the clattering and banging from the surge coupler, and it will also help dampen some of the road shock you experience. What it won't do is help with the movement of the ball mount in the receiver which is pretty unavoidable. Due to manufacturing tolerances, it isn't possible to get a tight fit between the ball mount and receiver, right out of the box. If the fit was too tight the ball mount would eventually become stuck...

Though the Convert-A-Ball # AMSC2 cushioned ball mount and the Curt RockerBall, like the # C40047, are very nice products and will help with chucking and vibrations, they cannot be used together. You are correct in that they will help with the same issues, but may actually end up causing more problems than counteracting them when used together. With that being said, either of these are great options, but it should be noted that the RockerBall hitch balls will sit 1-1/2" higher than a standard...

The Demco # DM12563 is not made to be adjusted, but what you're experiencing is normal. There should be room for play to allow for the normal movement of the trailer. If it was tight it would not be able to move and pivot as intended. Whether it is pointless or not is dependent on what you are doing or experiencing right now. The cushioning is the same and the difference between these two is the capacity, of course, as well as the shank size. The RockerBall # C94CR has a 3/4" diameter shank (so that's the size ball mount hole they fit) and the # C40047 has a 1" diameter shank. As for # C40047 and 40247, they are exactly the same.
