Video Transcript for Review of Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - 63836

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Draw-Tite 2 5/16 diameter chrome hitch ball, has a 14,000 pound weight capacity. Now, this hitch ball provides a connection point for your trailer's coupler. They do use the fine threads on this to provide an exceptionally tight, strong grip, and it is a durable steel construction. You can see it has a nice corrosion resistant chrome finish to it, and also, if you noticed, the flat sides here, these are built-in wrench flats that make it very easy to hold the ball in place while you're torquing the nut down. Does include the lock washer and the nut, it's all included.

Basically, when you go to install this, you'll put on your lock washer, put on your nut, and then torque it down to the correct specs. Again, the ball diameter is 2 5/16 inches, which is stamped on the top. The weight capacity is 14,000 pounds, which again is stamped on the top. Give you a few dimensions on this, we're gonna measure the shank. Now, this is designed to fit ball mount platforms that are 3/4 of an inch to 1 1/4 inch thick.

So the shank length is gonna be right at 2 3/4 quarter inches long, and the shank diameter is right at 1 1/4 inches. But that should do it for the review on this Draw-Tite 2 5/16 inch chrome hitch ball with the 14,000 pound capacity..

Hitch ball...does what its suppose to.

by:

It's a hitch ball and does the job. Nothing glamorous to report. Retired the previous hitch ball due to its age (25 years).

Its doing fine, expect many years of service

The hitch ball is exactly what I was looking for. It has the wrench flats I wanted to be able to keep the ball from rotating while tightening or loosening the ball. It also has a gross tow rating of 14,000 lbs which was on the higher end of hitch balls with wrench flats. As usual, etrailer was easy to deal with.

Wonderful product! Most importantly their customer service was beyond exceptional. I ordered incompatible items and instead of just shipping them they reached out to better understand my need, and get me the right items. Every person I worked with was phenomenal! Huge shout out to Tyra F she saved my life with this move!

by:

I just received my ball mount receiver and ball. Great looking product. I'm excited to see how the cushion works. Torqueing the ball to 450ft lbs. was fun!!!

by:

Completely Satisfied!!! Thank You!!!

by:

It's a hitch ball. Simple. But you do need a 1 7/8" socket to install it. And the ability to torque it to 450ft lbs.

by:

I purchased this ball for my 10k lb trailer project. Although I haven't been able to use this ball yet, the quality looks to be very nice.

by:

My order of hitch ball, ball mount and pin was delivered on time.

by:

Very solid and fit perfectly in the hitch that I had. Haven't used it to pull the trailer, yet, but will be doing that within the next week or so. I think it will be just perfect.
Thank you for a great site with "how-to's" and for your easy ordering, conscientious follow-up, and quick processing.

by:

Very substantial ball, washer, and bolt. I wish it came with more detailed installation instruction as I wasn't quite sure where the washer needed to go.

by:

fast service! good products !!! would buy from etrailer again.

by:

Good fit. You'll need 2 - 2" wrenches and a big 3ft pipe to crank to 600 ft lbs. Best done when draw bar and head are mounted on vehicle.

by:

Just as shown, good quality, fits well. Not: Requires a 2" wrench or socket and the ability to tighten to 425 ft lbs.

by:

nice ball, works well, needed to have a pro tighten it to the recommended foot lbs of torque(450#). most of us do not own tools this big....that cost me $5.00

by:

this is a great product ! you always have what i need. i will be shopping with you again. thanks

by:

Great ball!!!

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for Aluminum Frame 10,000 lb Trailer
When choosing a weight distribution system, you want to go off the total tongue weight. This total tongue weight includes the loaded weight of the trailer tongue that you stated along with any cargo behind the rear axle of the towing vehicle. As long as your frame is not wider than 2-1/2 inches, I have a system that is compatible. I recommend the Reese Titan Weight Distribution w/out Shank - Trunnion Bar - 17,000 lbs GTW, 1,700 lbs TW # RP66006. This system does not have the integrated...

  • Does the Titan Ball Mount # 45123 Have the Same Weight Capacity when Used in the Rise Position
The Titan Ball Mount you referenced, part # 45123 can certainly be used in the rise position. The ball mount has a 3-1/2 inch rise, and has the same 12000 lb towing/ 1200 lb tongue weight capacity when used in the rise position. This ball mount requires a trailer ball with a 1-1/4 inch diameter shank like the # A-90 2 inch ball or the # 63836 2-5/16 inch ball. This ball mount is not compatible with the Ford Super Duty OEM 2-1/2 inch receiver.

  • Weight Distribution Recommendation for a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 pulling a 26 ft 4900 lb trailer
Based on the numbers you gave me it would not be required that you use a weight distribution hitch on your 2006 Dodge Ram 1500, but it would greatly improve the ride of your towing setup and overall towing experience by leveling out your vehicle and trailer, increasing your steering, brake performance, increasing traction and decreasing sway. If you are planning on using the trailer frequently a weight distribution system would be a good investment, especially since it would decrease the...

  • Ball Shank Diameter Required for Reese Weight Distribution Systems
You will need to get a ball with a medium size shank to go with the Replacement Head # RP58167 that you referenced. Medium shank balls have a diameter of 1-1/4 inches. If you need a ball with a 2-5/16 inch diameter you would want a Hitch Ball # 63836. If you need a ball with a 2 inch diameter you will want a Hitch Ball # A-90.

The High Performance Reese Weight Distribution System, item # 66557, is designed to use a medium shank hitch ball with a length between 2-5/8 inches and 2-3/4 inches. I have listed 3 recommended balls below. Hitch Ball with 2-5/16 Inch Diameter and Medium Shank, 12,000 lbs GTW # 19286 Hitch Ball with 2 Inch Diameter and Medium Shank, 8,000 lbs GTW # A-90 Hitch Ball with 2-5/16 Inch Diameter and Medium Shank, 14,000 lbs GTW # 63836

  • Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Trailer with 1,500 lbs Tongue Weight
For a weight distribution system for a tongue weight that is 1,500 lbs when loaded and sometimes 900 lbs you would want the Reese part # RP66131 but you would have to verify that your tongue weight would not exceed 1,500 lbs when loaded. Basically you would be at the edges of this systems range that is 800 to 1,500 lbs. For a shank you would then want the part # RP54970. For either tongue weight you would have to basically set the system up totally different. Easiest way to go between...

  • Weight Distribution System That Will Work With a 1,400 Lbs Tongue Weight
When deciding on a weight distribution system you will need to know the total tongue weight of your towing rig. This includes the loaded ready to tow trailer plus any cargo you might be carrying behind the rear axle of the toing vehicle. I can give you a general recommendation on a system based on the information that you provided. Lets say your trailer's tongue weight is 1,400 lbs loaded and you plan to carry 100 lbs of cargo, then your total tongue weight would be 1,500 lbs. When choosing...

  • Weight Distribution System Recommendation for a 8,500 lb Boat Trailer with Surge Brakes
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow, this figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. Typically tongue weight is 10-15 percent of the total trailer weight. At your total trailer weight of 8,500 lbs you will most likely have a tongue weight range of 850-1,275...

  • Best Ball Mount for 5-1/2 Inch Rise in 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
Since there isn't a ball mount with exactly 5-1/2 inches of rise, you'll need one with 5 inches of rise (being within a half-inch of level is perfectly acceptable), and the best ball mount that will give you 5 inches of rise is easily the Flash Self-Locking, Aluminum Ball Mount # DTLBM9600. The Flash is the best for a number of reasons, starting with its innovative built-on lock so you don't have to purchase one separately. This allows the mount to be secured to your hitch, protecting...

The closest thing that we have is the Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Ball Set # 906b which you could use with the Curt Reducer Bushing for Ball Mounts # F-2. This would only get you to 10,000 lbs max towing capacity though. If you let me know what you are towing and what you're towing it with (including the type of ball mount being used) I can see if we happen to have any alternative options for your application. This hitch ball carries the same 14K weight rating as the Stedi-Flex to ensure that you never exceed the weight capacity of a single component. • Weight Distribution System for 2008 Ford F-250 Towing 12,000 lb
Hitch reducers like the Reese Titan sleeve part # 58102 that you referenced do not reduce the weight capacity of the hitch they are installed in. The only type of hitch size adapter that does reduce capacity are ones that go from a smaller size to a bigger size.
