This fully welded trailer hitch receiver bolts onto your vehicle's frame with no welding required. Powder coated steel is sturdy and corrosion resistant.First let start off by saying that from the time I ordered the hitch receiver, and the time it arrived at my doorstep was quite timely and much faster than other sites I have ordered parts from. Directions were simple enough to understand and not much of a read. Only problems I came across was the previous holes that were drilled into the frame did not match with the holes on the receiver (previous owner must have had a different style receiver installed). I wasn’t too upset at this as this was something I expected from a truck that is nearly 50 years old; simply fixed this by drilling new holes, which if I remember correctly, was stated to be expected during install. Along with this, I had to remove the exhaust tail pipes as they were in the way, but this shouldn’t be a problem if your vehicle has the exhaust directed out the side instead of straight back like mine. The directions state to use a 1/2 inch drill bit for the holes, but I found this to be too tight. I would recommend using a 5/8 inch bit or shimmying the 1/2 inch bit around while you drill. I would recommend you get a buddy to help, but in a case like mine, simple vice grips sufficed to hold the hitch receiver in place while I drilled. Should take about an hour with help and sharp drill bits. Overall was a good experience.
The quality of the CURT hitch is superb. Installation was s bit strange. One hole on each side lined up. I had to drill the other four. Not a big deal. The weird part is that the center section of the bumper where the license plate goes had to have 3/4 inch cut from the bottom and the license moved up 3/4 inch to clear the receiver.
Someone without a good workshop would not have been able to install this hitch.
This pic is before the license was moved up.
I installed this hitch receiver on m1971 c10, 8 ft. bed truck. The receiver is about an inch narrower than my frame railed. None of the bolt holes lined up. I did not flush the receiver with the license plate because the hooks for the chain would have been under the bumper. It is a sturdy and well receiver. The reason I gave it a 3 was because of the install process.
Installed this on my 69' C-10 LWB about 1yr ago and have had very good success with it. As I recall it was a little more difficult because I set it forward a little more than normal and had to drill a couple holes. It wound up being almost a hidden hitch. Hitch appears to be well built with good looking welds. I have used this to tow 22' Ski boat on numerous occasions without any issues.
Product and hardware are of good quality, only 1 hole on each side of my trucks frame lined up, so I had to drill more holes in the frame and line it up the best I could, also it didn’t clear the license plate frame on the bumper so I had to trim that about an inch, but in the end it looks good and feels secure, so I’m happy, I haven’t towed with it yet but I torqued the bolts up with a breaker bar so I’m sure it will be fine for a small boat.
Installed on my 86 Chevy C10. Had to modify a few things but not terrible. There were some brackets that connected the bumper to the frame that needed to be removed. I took a picture of the bracket loosely attached for reference. Also had to drill out some rivets in a piece of metal that connects the two frame rails. I took a picture of me pointing at the spot where the rivet was. So had to drill 4 holes total. Overall not too difficult and is pretty well hidden under the truck.
Nice hitch. Well built. Installation was straight forward. Even think the spare will fit.
says it was supposed to fit 1988 f-150 but unit is not wide enough to fit my frame rails and bumper is fouling it also. 2 fitment issues.
This is well built for the price. Speaking of price it was about $75 cheaper than other places not to mention free & fast shipping.
I haven't towed with it yet but installation wasn't too bad. 1980 c10 short bed. Factory step bumper. Had to remove bumper reinforcement brackets. Fit nicely under the bumper. Lost spare tire rack under truck. Had to widen middle holes and had to drill front and rear holes on both sides.
I ordered this hitch to install on my 1986 GMC High Sierra truck. Installation was super easy and straightforward. I also ordered the wiring harness from etrailer and it was easy to install. With these two items, I was ready to tow a small trailer. It looks good and ground clearance is not an issue (this was one of my main concerns when buying).
it fit on the frame rails, 2 bolt holes lined up on each rail, i drilled 2 holes on each side, and used all bolts, plates ,washers that came with part
Order arrived undamaged but was short one washer and nut. Hally C got from trailer got the issue quickly corrected and kept me informed. I really appreciate the excellent customer service.
Product is as described. Got perfect on my 1987 Chevy
R/10 short bed 2wd. On my application I had to drill the
two holes closet to the cab. Easy install. Maybe 15 minutes max.
Very fast shipping! Hitch worked perfect for what I was mounting it on! Fit my 56 chevy truck perfect!
very disapointed,Before orderI doublbe checked everything and it said confirm fit for my truck, did not fit then I had to ship back at my exspense, unacceptable
This part did not fit, but etrailer customer service is awesome and I hope to have a replacement part soon.
Quality product shipped in a timely manner completely satisfied !
Received the hitch in a couple of days of ordering, well packed. As the instructions stated, approximately one hour to install. It would not have taken that long, (about 50 minutes), but the old receiver had to be removed first.
Well built, I believe I'll get as long a service out of this one as the last. Reason for replacement, could not remove hitch from old receiver, it was so rusted in, been in the receiver for 30 years, and I needed an adjustable hitch installed.
I'll be sure to keep this one lubed some.
Sorry, unable to post a picture, looks like the advertisement though.
This was my second purchase from etrailer, will not hesitate to buy from again, should I need what they have.
Jim meant that he needed to use an adjustable hitch or ball mount like part # 80412
Ball Mount Adjustable Fits 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver, 6,000 lbs
$107.42. His old ball mount was frozen in the receiver of the hitch on the vehicle. The receiver hitch, the part that mounts to the vehicle, is not going to be adjustable.
Perfect fit and very well made.
Easy installation.
I am very satisfied.Thanks
Hitch fit perfect, easy to install will recommend etrailer to all my friends
Nice high quality, easy to install, fast shipping, would recommend this hitch for 67-72 C10 truck. Exact fit to frame, and even used 2 existing holes. If hitch was made about 1 inch narrower would not even require any drilling. Thank you.
Despite it being listed for a 1996 Ford F150 6 cylinder with a step bumper it did not fit my truck. I am now purchasing a class 4 hitch that was told to me that it will fit on the phone by Preston. My complaint is, I am told that I have to pay for the return. This comes out to a penalty to me and it is not my fault. I would advise any future customers not to trust the computer listing. I am sorry to say that someone must call and get a human on the phone and not to trust the on-line listing.
Works and fit great on my 65 c-10.
I have received it. And installed. Looks very good.
