2006 Honda CR-V

I was happy that the package arrived a day earlier then expected, although the box was damaged all the part were there and nothing inside was damaged. the directions were clear and concise with with minor help from a friend and a scissor jack the install was fairly quick easy. The only down side was there wasn't an invoice with the package and the wiring harness didn't include directions to run the wiring to the outside of the vehicle.

Installed on our 2002 CRV. etrailer's customer service is excellent. The map-graphic on their package tracking is one of the best I've seen. Packaging was superb and my hitch (shipped to Alaska) arrived in great condition. The instructional videos were great and I installed the hitch in 3 hours with a brief hand from my wife (about 5 minutes holding up one end). I'd do business with etrailer again in a heartbeat.

After 1 year our hitch is working fine. Installed on our 2002 CRV we use it to pull our 14 skifftrailer.

2004 Subaru Outback Wagon

This is my third 4th trailer hitch purchase from eTrailer over the past decade, and very satisfied with each one -- 1982 Jetta; 2004 Camry; 2003 CR-V; and my sister got one for her 6-8 year old Outback. My 'repair guy' had no trouble installing them. The service contact people at eTrailer gave me good guidance on my questions. Now if they could just convince my wife to go tent camping . . . . . .

Paint is still looking new 1 year later and couldn’t be happier! Thank you etrailer for making the purchase streamlined by doing the legwork and telling me what was needed to start towing! Directions and wires needed to install were a BIG plus!

I rarely give a 5-star rating. However, in this case it's necessary! I attempted to install my new etrailer Hitch Receiver but eventually discovered the mounting holes did not align due to shipping damage. I called the customer service group and rather than doubt my story, they immediately shipped me a new part AND sent a shipping label for the bad one! The new receiver went in easy-peezy just like the one I did years before on a different vehicle. Well done to the folks at

2003 Honda CR-V

Was easy to install after watching the videos. The fish wire was a really helpful trick! Fit perfectly on my 2003 CRV

It’s the 1 year anniversary of my hitch apparently! This bad boy has been used exclusively to carry a hitch mounted 3 bike carrier on my CR-V, and it’s done a great job at that. My bikes are bae and they’ve been safe and secure alllll over the country the past year. I also fondly recall the easy install: Only took about 45 minutes, a beer, and a ( now ex-) boyfriend to help hold up one side . Didn’t get surprised by needing any specialty tools or anything, just what I already had in my standard box. 10/10.

2006 Honda CR-V

This hitch was exactly as advertised and fit my CRV perfectly!!! Used spray bottle with soap & water to lube the two upper muffler rear hangers and they slid off with little prying needed (did not need to remove the lower hanger in front of muffler). etrailer's installation videos for installing both this hitch and corresponding 118336 wiring harness were spot-on and very helpful (also a good video on the Curt website). Took my time tightening the hitch bolts to specs which was a bit awkward until I thought to use my ratchet extension bars. Maybe the easiest "car repair" I've ever done, and probably saved a lot of $$$ doing it myself. If you can change your oil, you can do this installation no problem!
Also, etrailer promptly shipped this product for free (thanks, guys!) and it got here a day early. GREAT COMPANY! When I save up enough to buy roof rack rails in the near future, I'll be back...

2006 Honda CR-V

This hitch was a nice addition to my 2006 Honda CRV - it fit perfectly and I was able to install myself, saving me approx 150.00. The videos were the perfect teaching aid for the hitch and the wiring I installed, they left no questions unanswered and are very well done. I was mindful not to push the bolts back up into the holes while raising up the hitch, the center U support was a perfect help, as was resting the hitch on the muffler and getting started on the drivers side. The install came off as well as I could expect and am very satisfied with the fit and finish of this hitch. I highly recommend this hitch - I would recommend having two people to install - it would just make it easier.

2006 Honda CR-V

Great product. Excellent powder coated finish.

Installation was fairly easy. I thought I might need a lift but had no problem working under my car on my garage floor. I drove the back wheels up onto some pieces of 2 x 8 scrap wood, which gave me enough clearance. You will definitely need a helper to hold it up while you get the bolts lined up.

I had to get the hitch because I have a rescue dog named Toby, who takes up most of the back end of my 2006 Honda CRV. I have a utility trailer now to make runs to the home center or carry stuff on trips.

2006 Honda CR-V

Wow is all I can say! Talk about an easy project. My boyfriend is a mechanic and he told me we would be done in 20 minutes installing and that was right on. So easy ! Honestly I couldn’t believe it. I bought the wiring harness from this company as well and I installed that portion myself. Watched the video that is posted online from etrailer which took no more than 3 minutes and did it all in less than 20 minutes. Super excited to get my jet ski home ! Thank you for an easy to install product with perfect directions online!

2003 Honda CR-V

2003 CR-V install went well. First, watch the installation video! Be sure and lubricate the rubber hangars. Then you can remove and install by hand. Follow the Curt instructions for order of install. I forgot the u-bolt and it won't fit after the 4 frame bolts and nuts are installed. A second set of hands really helps. We used a needle nose pliers to hold the bolts while screwing on the nuts. There was interference between back passenger bolt and the muffler upon re-install, so I used a 13/16" box wrench to bend the back right muffler hangar up about 1/4". Problem solved! To reduce long term rust, I painted the exposed nuts and bolt ends with a rust resistant paint.

great product for our 2005 Honda CRV

Okay. Pain to install. Watch the videos online and you'll probably mangle the "fish" wire and have to reform it for subsequent bolts.

This hitch is very well designed, strong, and easy to install with common hand tools. (with exception to the Torque Wrench) The hardware kit includes a very handy "fish wire" to install the mounting bolts. Bit of advice is to use a jack to install, you DO NOT want to knock those bolts back up into the frame. This was installed onto my Daughter's CRV, and she did most of the installation.

The hitch has been in service with over 1500 miles of towing. Durable finish, no problems whatsoever!

2003 Honda CR-V

Needed a good quality trailer hitch for my CRV to launch my small boat (got tired of always borrowing someone's truck). etrailer made it very easy to find the perfect match for my year, make, and model, along with all the appropriate hardware and installation videos. Shipping was fast and customer service was helpful and patient with my questions. It's a great feeling to be able to drag my boat behind me and get going on an adventure somewhere! I would happily use etrailer again or recommend them to others

Great hitch! Easy to install and has held up great over the last year. I use it quite often to tow my 4 wheeler and tractor. Great price for a well made hitch. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great hitch.

perfect fit like a glove! installation was a breeze!

2003 Honda CR-V

Super easy to install, took 30 min to the video was super helpful. It looks good on my car as well, the only problem I have is it's a little to big for my bike rack even though it said it was a 2 in I feel it's a little bigger but it works great!

Currently use it every day with a bike carrier. Works great and the finish is holding up very well too.

Installation took about 45 minutes. Completed it by myself, unhooking the 3 rubber exhaust hangers lowers muffler just enough to get to rail for installation,

All around 5 stars- arrived promptly, packaged well, complete and was easy (with a helper) to install. It took about 35 minutes total, again, a helper made a huge difference; doing this solo would have been a greater challenge, but not impossible. Video instructions are very helpful and before I started I watched them twice just to make sure I had the process down; followed them exactly and install was very smooth. If I ever need another hitch, I know where to go and would highly recommend to anyone.

That review is still true. Its the best thing ever.
Kevin - 06/15/2021

Easy install after watching video instructions. Just needed my 11/16 and 9/16 wrenches and took about 15-20 min total. This model sticks out farther than the "hidden" ones but will afford better tie down points for boats/ etc. Great service, fast shipping, and trusted products.

2004 Honda CR-V

Good hitch. If you are doing the installation alone, it is much easier if you use a jack/jacks to gently lift the rack into place. Also put a needle nose vise grip or hemostat on the bolts to keep them from pushing back into the vehicle frame when you lift and fit the rack. Also put the u-bolt on before you tighten anything.

1 year later and still holding on strong. fit on my 05 Honda CRV no problems.

  • How To Fix Muffler Rattling Against the Trailer Hitch on a 2004 Honda CRV
When we have this issue on vehicles here at our shop. Sometimes we bend out the last exhaust hanger just enough to force it away from the hitch . Also the rubber hangers could be on the loose side causing too much play, you could try replacing with new rubber hangers. Check through your directions to see if it mentions flipping or removing an exhaust hanger.

The Class III Hitch that is available for your vehicle is the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch, item # 13535, I have posted a link to the installation instructions for you to review.

1-1/4 inch hitches cannot be converted into 2 inch hitches. If your 1-1/4 inch does not have the weight capacity to pull the trailer, then you will need to get a 2 inch hitch on your CR-V. We have one Class III hitch, 2 inch receiver that will fit your 2006 Honda CR-V. It is Curt part # 13535. It has a gross trailer weight capacity of 3,500 pounds and a maximum tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds. Keep in mind, when towing, you cannot exceed the capacities of the lowest rated component...

The hitch has a Gross Towing Weight of 3,500 lbs., but you will be limited to what the Gross Towing Weight of your vehicle is, which is listed in your owners manual. The reason they make a Class III receiver is because it has a more common 2 inch receiver opening than the 1-1/4 inch Class I receiver and gives you a bigger selection of accessories to use on the CRV and still be within the 350 lb.
