Hitch was a great addition to my car. Use for bike carrier, easy to install and instructions were spot on. etrailer's customer service was outstanding and would purchase other product when needed.

Hitch is working out great. Quality product.

I purchased this hitch for my '16 Subaru Crosstrek. It arrived quickly and install took about 30 minutes. As you can see in the photos, it looks well integrated (not like an add-on). Using it with a Yakima Holdup bike rack.
Very pleased with the customer service from etrailer.com. A friend recommended to me and I will do the same.

:-)

Comments
Still vary satisfied with the hitch. I use it mostly for attaching my bike rack. Even bought a Subaru cap to put on it when not in use.

Hitch fit just as indicated. A bit of a pain enlarging holes but fortunately it was accomplished using a drill and boring tool. Whoever came up with the jig to pull the bolts through the holes is a genius. To anyone installing this or a similar hitch just “READ” and follow the instructions. Was able, though a bit tough installing by myself. Good luck torquing the bolts.....was able to get the forefront bolts to but getting the torque wrench on the back bolts was impossible, using a good socket wrench was the best I could do. On to the lighting assembly.....

Comments
Great, used it for a new bicycle rack. Worked great. Thanks

Great product, easy installation, good value as well.

by:

Installation was pretty easy and took around 2-3 hours. I'd recommend using a digital torque wrench that is 24" or longer to tighten the bolts to the required torque OR an impact driver, then test the bolts with a torque wrench. (I borrowed both tools from my neighbor.) I've dragged it on the ground once while turning into a parking lot.

by:
2017 Subaru Crosstrek

The hitch install took me a couple of hours including gathering all the tools, and waiting a bit for the touch up paint to dry around the enlarged holes. It was very easy and I was able to do it by myself. The complaint I have is someone at etrailer put their sticker upside down on hitch.

by:
2012 Subaru Impreza

My wife and I installed this on my her Impreza 5-Door so that we could use the Thule TH990XT to carry our bikes. Installation requires us to enlarge two holes in the subframe. After that, the installation was extremely easy if you have two people working on it. The hitch receiver looks great and does not stick out beyond the bumper at all. We don't even notice it when the bike rack is not on there.

by:
2013 Subaru Impreza

This hitch fit our 2013 Subaru Impreza Sport perfectly. Watching the video of this hitch being installed was very helpful. I watched the video several times during the installation process to make sure I was doing it properly. I backed the rear wheels onto car ramps to create an adequate working space. My only suggestion would be to make the 1/2" bolts a little longer to make threading the nut on easier.

by:
2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek

The hitch arrived quickly from etrailer! I purchased a discounted model with a few cosmetic scratches on it? Guess what the scratches are hidden by the bumper of my 2014 Subaru XV Crostrek! Install took approximately 60 minutes. The paper instructions weren't easy to understand, but after watching the install video from your site, a couple of times it went smoothly!
I have also purchased the Swagman Chinook 2 bike platform carrier to be installed soon.

by:
2013 Subaru Impreza

Very satisfied with the product! The installation was as easy as it looked on your [online] videos (which are really helpful by the way)! Delivery Time was great as well.

Thanks for a job well done!

by:
Subaru XV Crosstrek

Easy installation. The fish wire worked great! I had my doubts at first.

This will make transporting my bicycles a piece of cake.

P.S. I installed the hitch on a Crosstrek Hybrid, fit perfectly.

by:

Good price, shipped right away. A mechanic friend installed for me, though I could have muddled through myself and bashed a knuckle or two. It has worked perfectly! No complaints, completely satisfied with the product. My picture isn't of the hitch, but what it allows :)

by:

A stupid mistake (admittedly) and some carelessness caused me to accidentally throw out the original hardware that came with this thing in the box. Turns out it costs over $60 to get a new hardware set, which is half of the original price of the entire hitch. Would have given 5 stars if not for that, because that is just straight up greedy and not okay.

by:

What a great hitch and heavy duty. I use it for a bike rack and it keep the bikes far from the rear door as the hitch is flush with the bumper.
It only took about 1 hour to install.

by:
2015 Subaru Impreza

The hitch was an easy install. My friend JP did not believe the fish method would work. He changed his mind. The install took about an hour. Works great with my bike rack. Will recommend to others.

by:
2016 Subaru Impreza

Great instructions, good quality, but a huge pain to install if you have any sort of aftermarket exhaust. If you have an aftermarket exhaust where the tip is extended beyond the normal tip length, I highly recommend taking the exhaust off before you try to install it. It fits with my Borpa 11843 axleback but it may not fit at all with a different one.

by:
2014 Subaru Impreza

easy install, just be sure you have the correct brackets with the correct sized bolts! (The ones that go inside the frame rail) There are two different sizes.

by:
Subaru

This hitch is great just slightly harder to install than videos show. It also needs adjusting every few months because the vibrations of regular driving move it out of place so it runs on the muffler…despite cranking the bolts has tight as they can go.

Aside from the noise it causes when it has vibrates out of place this hot h is absolutely amazing and easy and convenient and a wonderful cheaper solution that having Subaru install a hitch. And if you’re a better mechanic than me (who isnt!) I’m guessing you won’t have any issues installing it. Awesome product and awesome company.

2015 Subaru Impreza

Product ordering was easy. The part arrived when advertised, the trailer hitch fit perfectly on my 2015 Subaru Impreza 5-door and the trailer light converter worked as designed. I was very happy with this purchase.

by:
2015 Subaru Impreza

Super easy to install. Minimal amount of filing/drilling necessarily. Self install took about 25 min start to finish.

by:

A friend of mine helped me install the hitch on my car, and it installed just as the directions and video indicated. Though it was tricky at times, the video was very helpful and I am very happy with the product.

by:

I used a dremel tool to expand just two corners of the holes on the car frame instead of making the entire holes larger. The point is to get the plates and the bolts through it, so it's not necessary to make the entire hold larger. Kind of like o->{} instead of o->O.

After getting the bolts in place, I used a bunch of strong magnets to hold them there, just so I don't accidentally push them back in while putting the hitch in place. Remember there are two different sizes of bolts/nuts/fish-wires.

Everything went smoothly until the last torque'ing part. There's barely enough room on the left side (without the exhaust pipe) to make this happen. On the right side, it's practically impossible without lowering the muffler. I got the left side exactly at 110/70 ft-lb, but I had to wing it for the right side. That's the only reason I knocked one star off.

All in all, I managed to do it all by myself and it looks nice. I like how it points up ever so slightly, too.

Comments
Hitch has been great. The rear-end of the car sagged with any load on it, so I swapped the rear springs with stiffer, but still standard height, ones made by King Springs. The car is perfect now.

This was easy to install - I had to very slightly file the outside edges of one of the existing holes in the supports under my truck, but that was easily accomplished and the instructions were clear. The included wire system for retrieving bolts was simple (and pretty cool). We've used this frequently with a bike rack and have had absolutely no issues at all. Will probably purchase a small platform this year so that we can throw some additional luggage or a cooler back there as well.

by:
2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Prompt shipping, great product and thanks for including items to help make installation easier.

by:

Loved the directions and video for installation. The pull wire was great but I used a piece of looped electrical wire to help grab it through holes to save time. I used a cooler to sit the hitch on which made it very easy for me to start the nuts on the back bolts. A great custom fit which made the job easy enough for one person at 40 - 50 minutes.

  • Availability of Hitch for 2015 Subaru Impreza WRX Sedan
I spoke with my contact at Curt Manufacturing and he said they would be coming out with a hitch for the 2015 Subaru Impreza WRX. He could not give me an exact date when the hitch would be available, but said most likely within two or three months, depending on when the 2015 is released and available for fitting. Curt is the only manufacturer that is making hitches for the WRX models.

  • Hitch Availability for a 2013 Subaru Impreza
The only hitches we offer for your 2013 Subaru Impreza are Class I 1-1/4 inch hitches like the part # C11286 which will fit if you have a hatchback with single exhaust. Class III 2 inch hitches are only used on vehicles with higher capacities like trucks and SUVs. I attached a page that has all of the hitches we offer for your 2013 Subaru Impreza.

  • Parts Included, Installation, and Ground Clearance of Hitch C11286 on a 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek
The bolt leader is included with Curt trailer hitch # C11286 for your 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek. As for your second question I think you mean can the hitch be installed without a lift. Yes, it can, a lift makes it easier for sure, especially when filming installations (video linked for you). You might find it is easier to install if you jacked up the rear of the vehicle and put it on jack stands. For ground clearance it will measure approximately 13-1/2 inches from the ground to the bottom...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation For 2015 Subaru Impreza Hatchback
We do have a trailer hitch for your 2015 Impreza Hatchback if it has a single exhaust. The hitch I recommend is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # C11286. This is a Class 1 hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. Per a note from Curt, All non-trailer loads - bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth - should be supported with stabilizing straps like part # 18050. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt.

  • What Stabilizing Strap is Needed for Curt Class I Hitch C11286 for 2016 Subaru Crosstrek
The strap they're referring to is # 18050. One end of the strap would loop around the upright of the bike rack, the other would clip into the seam between the hatch and the vehicle roof. I've linked you to a video showing how that works. Because of the small wing above the rear window that the strap would need to pass over, I'm not sure I'd be comfortable using the strap, my fear being that the strap could abrade the paint over time or damage the wing. So this leaves you with three options....

  • Class III Trailer Hitch with 2 Inch Receiver for a 2015 Subaru Impreza Sport 5-Door Hatchback
I think the confusion is in the use of the term wagon. It appears that for 2015 there were no wagon models, just 4-door sedans and 5-door hatchbacks. So if you look at the video I have linked for Curt trailer hitch # C11286 you will see it is an Impreza Sport 5-door hatchback which hitch manufacturers are calling the wagon. If yours looks like the one in the video then Draw-Tite hitch # 76084, shown for wagons, would fit provided your model has a single exhaust pipe.

So if your sport model is the 5-door wagon/hatchback and has single exhaust then this hitch will fit. We have had numerous customers install this hitch on the Sport wagon/hatchback models.
