Perfect for light-duty towing, this custom, vehicle trailer hitch receiver features fully welded, gloss powder coated steel construction. Drawbar sold separately. The build quality is excellent and well built. The tolerances are very tight, I had to wallow out one of the mounting holes slightly. It fits a 2014 Hybrid nicely. The hardest part was dealing with the muffler being in the way. I am glad I had a single exhaust design. Also, my vehicle did not have access to the frame to feed the bolt though. I had to use a dremel to open a larger area for the rear mounts. Took a couple hours and had a helper hold the muffler aside while trying to drill required holes. It wasn't the easiest to install so I only gave 4 stars. But the product itself is well made and I feel it will work well.
Not a direct bolt in. I had one hole on hitch that was off 1/8 in. I had to use a die grinder to open up the hole in the hitch so I could install it. It is heavy duty and well built.
I really expected the hitch to come with the hitch pin.
Also the directions could use a bit more detail especially where you have to make cut outs in the plastic the photos are really small for older eyes.
I didn't cut off any underbody panel pieces. I just made a slit for the hitch to slide through. Also didn't cut off any heat shield. I drilled a hole for the 1/2" screw and torqued it to xx ftlb as instructed. Every thing worked fine. Hard to believe the video instructed to cut off that much. A bit crazy IMO. Also.. super snug fit. So snug I had trouble getting the M12 bolts to line up with the thread in the subframe. Pain the ass, but eventually got it in.
I invested four hours total putting the hitch on the car. One hour was prep and cleanup. Could do another in less than two hours easy. I decided to ramp up the rear of the car with boards rather than jack and jack stands since they are always in the way when you're working underneath. (See pic.) I had the wife help me twice when putting the hitch on, the rest was just me. With the right tools near anyone can do it. (I'm 74). Your video and instructions are excellent and so is your product.
Have to mention something that will put a smile on your face. The first thing to be done was to remove the two brackets on either side of the car. They are held in place with two 14mm bolts on either side but they are kind of tough to get at so I decided to remove the 17mm nuts instead since they were easier to get at. A 17mm wrench with a mallet wasn't enough to get the nuts off so I got a 1/2" breaker bar and with all the strength I could muster I finally got those stubborn SOB's to break loose. Only then did I think to take a closer look and sure enough they were welded on (as per your instructions). Luckily they were meant to stay off.

Good except that it was difficult to tell if the pin had to go further into the hitch for safety. Also it was very difficult to remove the bike rack from the hitch. I was told by Yakima Support that I should have put silicone spray inside the hitch before putting the bike rack in. God bless you!
All equipment was delivered on time. Hitch, wiring harness, receiver and ball. Watched video's on installation of harness and hitch. Went down to my garage and installed both with the help of my girlfriend. Very satisfied with the products and the installation. etrailer supplied the goods and the knowledge. I am very happy that I went this route.
I should have bought the other brand. But the Curt was rated a little higher tongue weight and had a round crossbar which I had thought would be stronger. The Draw-Tite was a square tube crossbar but it had the extra holes predrilled that allow you to reinstall the heat sheilds after you mount the hitch to the frame.(too bad I didnt notice this until after I started the install otherwise I could have tried exchanging the Curt for the Draw-Tite)
The underneath and trunk of my 2014 vehicle didnt look like the 2013 Avalon vehicle they showed in their video's so had to figure my way around the differences, which added time to the install. The instructions call for a 1/2" drill, but even a 1" hole cutter wasnt quite large enough for the head of the 1/2 inch bolt and steel flange to fit thru, so I had to enlarge across the diameter with a round file by hand.....that took quite a while also, especially as there isnt much room to work above the hanging muffler while lying on a cold concrete floor with the car up on ramps.
The Curt hitch's predrilled holes also didnt seem to line up very well and the bend angle of the left and right flange dont seem to be even. The angled portion leading to the drawbar seems too angled on one side and less angled on the other. As a result the driverside contacts/rubs the spare tire compartment, while there is still clearance on the passenger side.
Plus the fastener hardware for my real collision deflector brackets were badly rusted and it took me forever to get them off with lots of elbow grease and liquid wrench penetrant.
The hitch was of industrial strength sadly unlike the enclosed instructions, which were weak at best. I have installed similar hitches on similar cars and getting this on a 2013 Camry V6 took 5 hours. Others have been a maximum of 2 hours. This includes the trip to Home Depot to get THE tool that you need that is not specified - a one inch metal hole saw that you WILL need in order to install this hitch. In summary, looks good, solid, needs better instructions. Do your own due diligence before you start on this and do NOT rely on the included instructions.
I should also mention that the plastic cover that the instructions say "give back to the customer" I did manage to get back on to the underside of the car with a bit of brute force and a couple fewer of the self tapping screws (bolts?) yet still is secure on the car after installation.
I installed this on a 2013 Camry SE. It fit perfectly and it went on exactly like the instructions said. I'm above average when it comes to handyness and it took me an hour including clean up. I did it in my garage with the car up on jack stands. If you are looking for a hitch is recommended this one.
Fairly easy to install. Took 1hr and 45 minutes to install. Don't need the instructions just watch the video provided by etrailer. It easier to use a 1 and 1/8 hole saw then the step bit.
Prompt delivery from etrailer. Quality well built trailer hitch. Provided instructions were pretty inadequate but watching the installation video on the website a couple times was all I needed to install this item. For my Camry it did involve some drilling as the video showed but was nothing super complicated. I am pretty mechanically inclined, and doing this installation all by myself took approx 4 or 4.5 hours from open box to cleanup. Very satisfied with this hitch and etrailer!
Although the product it self is pretty well made, i am slightly disappointed in over all fitment of the trailer hitch. i am sure engineers have their reasons for the hitch hanging so low from the bumper.
install is fairly straight forward other then the need to widen the holes a little bit.
over its a good hitch i knew what i was buying i knew it would hang low.
good product nevertheless.
etrailer always makes it easy to buy.
Fast delivery and everything fit perfect. Easy installation after watching etrailers videos. Lowest price I found on the internet for this hitch. Thanks for the great service.
The hitch has worked great. We struggled a little doing a home install because the holes for the weld nuts were really tight. We ended up using a grinder to elongate 1 hole slightly. Other than that the installation went exactly as planned and there were only a few choice words uttered by my crew.
This is a Curt trailer hitch for a 2014 Toyota Camry XLE.
I previously had two Draw-Tite trailer hitches on two other Toyota autos I owned. They both were closer to the ground so that the hitch would occasionally bottom out and scrape when going through a deep driveway entry, like I have at my home. We had to drive in/back out diagonally to avoid the problem. This hitch is several inches higher and doesn't have that drawback.
The installation was pretty much as described in the video available on the etrailer web site. The only time consuming part was grinding out the two extra holes that had to be drilled into the frame members for the two forward bolts. I used a Dremel tool with a grinding wheel to enlarge the 9/16 holes I drilled, out to about 1 inch. I was also able to trim the black polyurethane splash cover to fit around the hitch tightly. The heat shield was not a problem and did not have to be trimmed at all. It is located above the muffler and out of the way.
Overall, an excellent product, even better than the Draw-Tite. I expect to get many years of service from this car and this hitch. Good Fishing to everyone!!!
great product and quick service
The trailer hitch works perfectly. I use it weekly to haul debris and bring construction materials back to my project houses. The paint shows no signs of failure, even with the salt that’s used on our roads. Likewise the steel shoes no sign of age by way of rust.
This is the second Curt trailer I’ve used on my cars and they have both performed without flaw.
One caveat, I have to be careful on steep driveways entrances and street crossings because the trailer can scrape on the pavement. This is not a design failure, the hitch simply lowers the vehicle clearance by a couple inches. Still, I’d rather get the mileage of a car for 90% of the time I use it and use a trailer for the heavy lifting.
Hitch itself is good, the instructions for the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid do not tell you everything you need to remove temporarily. You need to remove more exhaust mounts to gain enough movement of the muffler to get tools in to install the front bolts and drill for the front bolt holes into the frame rails. With doing that, it took 2 of us about 3 hours to actually install (far longer than the 45 minutes shown) using standard jack stands on a flat driveway.
Compared to the hitch for the 2010 Hyundai Accent we both installed previously on his car from etrailer, this one was a lot more effort and time to install.
Does what you said it would, good hitch
Fit my 2017 Camry Hybrid with ease. Chose not to Enlarge 1/2" hole at the bottom of the uni-frame rectangular frame support, however drilled the 1/2" hole all the way through frame into the trunk, then enlarged the hole easily from the trunk side using a hole cutting bit and cutting oil. The fish coil method IMHO, was more trouble than it was worth. Kept bottom hole at 1/2" and fed bracket & bolt via the trunk side. Unit was an easy install.
Hitch arrived in a good box but had numerous dings and scrapes which required touch up with black Rustoleum paint. I received another hitch on the same day which required no touch up whatsoever. Since there was no damage to the shipping box I assume the hitch was damaged prior to shipping. Disappointing that QC allowed it to be shipped. Installation went as described in the enclosed instructions and was completed in about 90 minutes. Looks good except for two touch up spots which are visible.
Shopping was easy on this site and the product was delivered in a timely manner and very well packaged. The installation video was a great resource to convince me not to install it myself. I had a Toyota Dealer install the hitch which I had purchased on etrailer.com at a substantial savings from the Dealer price. I also got a good deal on the installation as the Dealer's rate book cited only 1 hour to install, but like many comments on the installation video, they said it took quite a bit longer than that. I bought this receiver primarily for a Yakima Ridgeback bike rack which requires the pin hole to be at least 1 1/2 inches back from the end of the receiver, which it is.
UPS lost my order. I talked with someone from E Trailer, they got to the bottom of the situation, got another shipped, got it this morning. Great Job!!
The receiver will be excellent for my needs. The instructions, though clearly written were a little confusing. My vehicle has only one muffler so these comments apply to single muffler cars. A drawing in the instructions clearly show how the receiver mounts. My first suggestion is to plan to completely remove the muffler. It can be separated from the tail pipe 12" or so ahead of the muffler. Temporarily mount the receiver using the bolt holes for the rear exhaust hanger. If the heat shield has not been removed mark where to cut the heat shield and with a center punch mark where to drill the frame for the forward bolts. Plan to enlarge the forward, 1", holes slightly.
