Super easy installation! Step by step YouTube videos provided by etrailers were extremely helpful.

by:

Let me tell you guys about this hitch receiver, first of all easy to install with two people but I did it myself and it was still easy. I'm a big guy and could hold it up by myself while fastening the bolts. I've used this and also the connections for my lights for about two times a week for a year now and they do not disappoint at all. 10 out of 10 I do recommend.

by:

First, the fact that you did a 1 year follow up is great. It's easy to get a positive review when a product is first received but not used much. This hitch is very nice but installation is not what was noted. A mechanic needed to drop the gas tank and modify the bumper cover in order to install. The product itself, 5 stars, installation 1 star.

by:
2015 Jeep Patriot

I was extremely satisfied with how easy the trailer hitch and wiring harness were to install. I am not a mechanic, but following the two eTrailer YouTube videos, a friend and I were able to install both in less than 2 hours.
The tip to cut a little less from the rear skirt, versus the instructions, made a world of difference in the final look.

2015 Jeep Patriot

After owning for one year, it has been a valuable addition to our Jeep Patriot. We have pulled a small trailer well over 3,000 miles. We went from a Suburban to the Patriot and definitely need this to haul our belongings. I did spend the extra time to get the power cable up to the engine compartment by way of fishing it under the carpet or plastic trim. So it is completely hidden except in the door panel. There is no way to get it thru the firewall between the engine and the dashboard so this has worked well. Am going to install this same kit on my sons Patriot for Christmas.

2016 Jeep Compass

This website and the service is fantastic. The specific products were easy to find and the delivery was on point and fast, of all the hitches I have either ordered or bought in the past this was by far the best way to go. The product was easy to install and the etrailer videos on youtube were outstanding with easy to follow steps and knowledgable information. Will definitely return for future purchases and will recommend to other for there needs. Thanks for making my experience painless.

I received the product in a matter of days. I installed the receiver hitch on my jeep patriot while it was in my driveway. Installation was a snap and it went just as the video said it would.

Thanks for great service and products

It went on easy but it’s a 2 man job for sure. Me and a friend managed to install it in about 4 hours without using a lift.

2016 Jeep Patriot

Had a professional installation. They simply removed the entire bumper cover. Hitch bolted right on without lowering the muffler or removing the heat shield. Worked out really fast and easy. I will be headed to Lake Okeechobee with my boat in tow next month.

The hitch has worked out very well. I must say that the hitch is much stronger than the Jeep on which it is mounted. I recently purchased a Swagman bicycle carrier from etrailer. As soon as weather permits, I will be loading my bike to check it out and will be doing a review on that product. Thus far, I am all smiles

2014 Jeep Patriot

Hitch is well made. I didnt have to take down the exhaust or heat shield, i just took the holding pins off from the center lower fascia and was able to pull it forward enough to get the hitch in place. Its tight, but installed in 10min. One thing I did notice, hitch was about 1/2 short of the frame. I installed anyway and it seems secured although not completely snug against the frame on one side. Its tight and doesnt move. Pretty easy install.

It sounds like your hitch was slightly flexed in shipping. The good news is hitches are easy to flex back into place. I have attached a link for flexed hitches to help you.

2014 Jeep Patriot

Good fit and looks good but if you have never installed a hitch on your style of vehicle before figure more time than what it says in the instructions. I installed one on a 2014 Jeep Patriot. The guy I watched online said 2.5 hours to install. He was right not the one hour the instructions said (instructions said half hour for a pro). Maybe if everything goes your way and you have a lift with help at your disposal then maybe you could pull off the one hour install.

Still a great purchase and product, would definitely recommend

by:

I purchased this just over a year ago and received an email today asking me to review it. Let me start by saying that I love that they waited a year to ask for a review. Whats the point of reviewing a product the day you receive it?
The trailer Hitch arrived within a few days of ordering and I watched the videos for installing it on my Jeep Patriot. With there being enough room for me to crawl under the car I had the hitch installed in 30 mins! I also purchased the lighting kit and the entire project was done in an hour. The entire hitch except for the tongue is hidden behind the bumper cover and looks like a factory option. I use this hitch daily for work and its been rock solid and still looks like new. Fit and finish are perfect. Great Product!

by:

Product is very well built and has worked flawlessly for us. The only change I did was to get longer bolts (5 inch) for the passenger side. This allowed me to use my recovery hook with the tow hitch. If you do this mode you will need to Dremel the holes bigger on the recovery hook to install it. Actual install was straight forward and the install information online at etrailer helped a lot. Don't be afraid to do the trimming on the lower rear plastic. Just follow the instructions and it is easy. You will need a light kit for the trailer lights to work with the Jeep Compass. Well built tow hitch and has given us no issues when towing.

by:

What great service! Excellent product easy to install, wish I'd also bought the wiring harnesses.

ok I think the coating needs improvement there is rust that has formed on top of the hitch tube. after awhile I suspect this would become a safety issue.

I recommend to lightly sand the rust with a fine grit sandpaper and cover the area with a rustoleum paint to prevent further corrosion.

2014 Jeep Patriot

The product arrived very quickly and was packaged well. In addition to the instruction that came in the box, I also utilized the installation video for the trailer hitch and the wiring harness. Although I did not have anyone to help me with the hitch, the whole process only took about 2.5 hours. It would have been less, but I had to put the jeep up on jack stands so that I could drop the exhaust down enough to get the hitch in and I kept starting and stopping the instruction video for the wiring harness to ensure I was doing it right. My friends told me it looked as it if had been professionally installed. Made me feel really good. The light test came out successful the first time and I am already shopping for my next purchase.
Excellent service and product. My next order is coming soon.

by:

Hitch quality actually exceeded my expectations. Metal was "heavier", all welds were ground smooth and finish was good.
I have average mechanical ability. Doing a drive way installation took me less than two hours. Driving back tires onto four inch blocks gave me ample space to work. Used jig saw to cut receiver opening, used rope as safety strap under exhaust.
Installing wiring harness took less than an hour.

by:
2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Although more involved than the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe hitch, it went on the Jeep Patriot OK...a little more than an hour since you must drop the muffler and cut the lower bumper apron.

The electrical add-on was easier, although the B+ (12 VDC) line should be spliced to the black cable to the battery before dropping below the driver's side taillight...a little to tight to work in behind the bumper/panel...also, no metal panel was available for adhesive mounting of the light module.

Overall, not too bad...and done! (Maybe over done...4000# hitch on a 1000# tow vehicle...oh well.

The product arrived on time and was in good shape. The reason for the four stars instead of five is that the included directions say installation time is 30 minutes. This is very misleading because it took me about 1 1/2 hours. When you don't have access to a car hoist and have to lie on your back the entire time it doesn't go as quickly as planned. The product fit-up was good and the rest of the directions were spot on. Now the video I watched didn't match the written directions but between the two all of my questions were answered. I also purchased the wiring package for this vehicle and watching the video was VERY helpful and installation went smoothly. I say that the heat shrink wire connectors should be included instead of having to be purchased separately and need to include some longer zip ties since the directions say to attached the wires to the trailer hitch and the included ties are too short. In light of all of the above I would STILL recommend these two products.

  • Why Are There Two Curt Trailer Hitches Made for a 2017 Jeep Compass
There were two generations of the Jeep Compass in 2017. An older body style and a newer one. The part # C13363 is for the newer style and the part # C13081 is for the older style. Old Body Style models will have the letter D as the 11th character in the VIN. New Body Style models will have the letter T as the 11th character in the VIN.

  • Why is the Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap Part # 18050 Needed
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13081 which is a fit for your 2014 Jeep Compass as you mentioned recommends the use of the Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap part # 18050 for all non-towing accessories. The reason for the strap is to prevent movement of the accessory inside the trailer hitch as it can wear down the hitch over time and lead to a potential for failure. In my opinion, this is more of a warranty precaution than strength concern. If you do not wish to use the stabilizing...

i called my contact at Curt and they told me that there are times when the side mounts on the trailer hitches will be banged around and sometime flex in causing the gap you said your hitch has. They said you need to torque the bolts holding the hitch to the frame rail to 110-ft-lbs to make sure it is secure. Using a hand ratchet or trying to judge how much torque the bolts have is just not enough. A torque wrench like part # PTW3001C will work fine when installing the hitch.

To pick out the correct rise/drop ball mount you need to take two measurements. Based on the dimension you listed I'd be inclined to thing you'd need a drop of around 10 inches or so like # AMSC10 since a lot of trailers sit around 16 inches from ground.
