I bought my new Subaru Forester in March 2021 and needed a hitch for my boat. I went to the shop that has installed hitches on my other cars, and they didn't have any for my Forester in stock. They recommended that, to save time and money, I could purchase one through etrailer. I found the etrailer website very user-friendly and was able to order a hitch with no difficulty. The hitch fits perfectly and retains the clean lines of my new car. I'd recommend this site to anyone needing a trailer hitch.

Easy install, I was able to put it in myself without a lift or even jacking up the forester. Great quality, gave it 4 stars because the 2” hitch is open on both sides. Allowing debris from the road to kick up into the hitch and gum up the mechanism that locks in my bike rack. It’s an easy fix, I ordered a hitch cap today. But something to note before buying.

Rust free and locked in after a salty New England winter! Still looks new.

Great product, perfectly design for the 2020 Subaru Forester, I just put mine on and it was so simple it was ridiculous. I used a rotary tool and a cylindrical diamond bit to cut a notch into the largest factory drilled hole in the frame, and the fish wire provided with the kit worked perfectly for getting the flanges and bolts into the appropriate holes present from the factory for bolting the trailer hitch to the frame. The wiring harness that can be added to this purchase also comes with all the parts necessary for an easy install. The only thing I would recommend adding to this kit would be a small tube of thread lock as an added measure for the bolts.

Ordering the trailer hitch and accessories was a cinch. They arrived at my home very quickly. because I am a disabled veteran I had [moving company] install the hitch for me and it only took an hour to Install it.

This is a good product, easy to install and works like it should. A few tips: 1. Put some WD40 on the rubber exhaust hangers to get them off easier. 2. I had some difficulty removing the underside panel on the driver side. There's more clips than the instructions indicate. Plus, you need to get behind the mudguard (rotate it to the side) to access one of them. Finally, there's a tab that's not removable (picture included). In the end I gave up trying to remove the panel and just pushed it to one side of the frame, which worked fine. 3. When removing the tabs, there are several different sizes, indicated by the notches in the face. Keep track of which size goes in which hole or it will be a pain to get them all back in the right holes.

2020 Subaru Forester

Perfect fit. The installation video was great, much better than the manufacturer’s instructions. I installed the hitch on my 2020 Subaru Forester in my garage by myself. Took 2 1/2 hours. I used two 8” plastic boxes to support the hitch when I was ready to attach it to the frame. That made the last lift up to the bolts much easier because it was only a 3-4” lift. Only discrepancy I found in the 2019 video was that my 2020 Forester has an extra clip in the driver’s side wheel well holding up the plastic panel. It delayed me just a bit until I figured out why the panel was balky. I also installed the https://www.etrailer.com/Custom_Fit_Vehicle_Wiring/Curt/C56040.html wiring harness. It snapped right in and was a 10 minute job. Easy!

Installed easily per video, the only addition I did was to spray muffler isolators with silicone lubricant so as to allow reassembly by hand. This bicycle was the first thing to be carried with the hitch and it handled it perfectly

- C13409

Rock solid receiver, very good fit. The shipping box looked pretty beat up when it arrived, but the hitch is made so solidly that it was totally undamaged. I keep a OneUP USA bike hitch in this most of the time, and go up some very rough roads, and there is zero "play" in this combination.

2021 Subaru Forester

Received my order quickly. Watched the install videos helping me decide how I would proceed. The video showed them using a step bit to widen the hole to allow insertion of the bolts and flanges. I did not do that. I used the edge of a flat file to file a notch into the hole just large enough for the flange and bolt head to slide through removing the least amount from the frame rail I possibly could. The video also should them removing the plastic box behind the driver’s side rear tire. That is not necessary. I only had to remove the two bolts in the frame and push the box to the side with the bolt brackets sliding up the frame to get it out of the way. The two heat shield holes require a large drill bit. The material is thin, and I was able to use a 5/8 paddle drill bit for that. I had backed my forester onto ramps which raised it up a little higher than was comfortable for lifting the hitch into place. I raised the passenger side into place first and had to use my knee to lift the driver’s side high enough to allow the hitch to slide onto the passenger side bolts. Once one bolt was started on the passenger side the other bolts were easy to start. Overall, it went rather well. It would be easier with two people when lifting the hitch into to place, but this can be done with one person. I use the hitch for towing a small 5x8 utility trailer. This works well. One thing to remember, the towing capacity of a Subaru Forester is 1,500 Lbs. even though the hitch is rated for much more.

2019 Subaru Forester

There was one step missing in the installation instructions regarding the underbody panel on the drivers side. The hitch covers one of the installation tabs of the panel. I had to cut back the tab in order for the hitch to be installed. Once I did this I just installed the hitch over rear tab on the panel and did not screw it it as there was no hole in the hitch to install the screw. I also reinstalled the heat shield even though it looked like it was optional. I didn't see any reason on why I shouldn't have reinstalled it. I installed it on a 2019 Subaru Forester Sport.

I received the hitch 2 weeks back and was finally got around installing it over the long weekend. As everyone mentions it, the videos are great. I went back many times to check exact steps and it helped me. Took me about 2 hours myself doing it. I need help with the step where I raise the hitch onto bolt and secure it. I used ramp (raised about 1 ft) so that step was hard. Otherwise it was breeze. Too early to tell if the quality of the product but so far so good.

A beefy hitch, delivered for free in just 2 days with an awesome installation video that completely flatten the learning curve — very refreshing!

- C13409
by:

The installation video (2020 Forester) was great. One thing i would add is to pay attention to the heat shield on the Forester. The hitch frame bends the outermost lip of the shield against the spare tire well. This creates a trap for debris and moisture, so i made sure to bend the shield lip back down after hitch installation to create a space between the shield and the well.

- C13409

Great hitch overall. After one relatively unsuccessful try to self-install, we did a more careful review of the videos of installation and were very successful in getting it on ourselves. Probably took just over an hour, and actually having done one, we ordered another one for our daughter's car which we will also install. The hitch itself is very secure and serves our needs on our 2020 Forester. Price quoted for a dealer installed hitch was $[XX] and we spent less than $[XX] to do this ourselves!

curt hitch arrived fast and it looks like a verry sturdy well designed hitch. i really like your informative installation videos, verry easy to follow with step by step directions. I ordered a curt hitch a while back for my 2013 crosstrek and followed video and installation was a breeze, with a little help from my wife lifting it up to get bolts started. Have had a few years of use out of it wint no problems. wiring harness installation was also verry easy and works great. thats why i decided to order another hitch and wiring harness for my wifes new 2020 forrester. Thanks etrailer for good equipment and great videos

Good solid hitch, well attached. I trimed one corner of the heat shield and put it back on ... better than one less bolt holding the hitch. Making the center hole, unless you have above average level of tools takes a while. I used a dremel but even that took quite some time. No problem though ... hitch went right on.

The best trailer hitch we have for your 2019 Subaru Forester is the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76271. The reason that this is the best trailer hitch for you is because it is a custom fit which means no cutting or drilling is required. It has a class III, 2" receiver tube opening and is rated for a trailer up to 3,500 lbs. It also has a durable black powder coated finish and comes with a lifetime warranty.
