Look is awful, most of these I have installed replace the factory hitch and install tight to the bumper, this one hangs below the factory hitch and looks out of place on the pickup. I considered sending it back but shipping would have been half what I paid for the hitch,
You mentioned that the hitch looks terrible and I wondered if you were referring to how it appears under the factory hitch or if the powder coat has become scratched. For a 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 or 3500 with a factory hitch, there is a Draw Tire hitch part # DT45509

$368.26 which requires the factory hitch to be removed. There is drilling required to install, does not fit cab and chassis 34 inch frames, only fits models with an 18 inch spare tire or smaller under the vehicle. Bigger tires will not be able to be stored under the truck. If the hitches powder coat is marred as will happen over time, I recommend touching it up with a rust resistant paint like Rustoleum.
BEAST MODE ON! This thing is HUGE! I used to have a receiver integrated into a Ranch Hand bumper but found that massive bumper was only attached via the stock bumper brackets and we almost lost a 11k lbs trailer load recently. We upgraded to this massive CLASS V hitch and we are impressed. Super easy to install with a 2nd person.
My only complaint is it sits a little far back when used in combination with a Ranch Hand bumper such that the hitch was about 4" short of making it to the hole for the pin or for the pintle latch to open. So when you have a plasma cutter you simple just make it fit ;)
Exactly as advertised, easy installation. I purchased this hitch to avoid spending well over a thousand dollars on a torklift system. The torklift system is awesome if your towing a community behind your truck, i am only towing my motorcycle. There doesn't seem to be much in between the extremes for hitches that accommodate hitch extensions. As fore warned by the etrailer staff this hitch did not allow the use of my standard Torklift camper tie-downs. So i had to modify the tie-downs and have some welding done to compensate for the modifications. I am very happy with the installation and believe the hitch and extension will allow me to tow my cycle trailer with zero issues. Thanks etrailer!
Installation is easily done in 30 minutes in the driveway. Some maneuvering is needed to get the Curt receiver past the factory receiver mounting brackets. There is a clearance issue between the Curt receiver and a factory crossmember on both sides which can be remedied by adding a 3/4" grade 8 washer between the receiver and the frame on each side. It is easiest to torque down the four vertical bolts before installing the two horizontal ones as they interfere with getting a socket on the two rear vertical bolts. Curt did a good job eliminating all failure points (bolts) on the receiver hitch itself and the welds are solid. Overall the Curt receiver is overkill in a good way and it would be hard for even a good fabricator to design one that is stronger. Included are pictures of how it looks on a relatively tall factory height 2009 Dodge 3500 DRW with a 6" Fastway drop and 1220 pounds of tongue weight.
The only issue with the receiver hitch is that it dropped approximately 3" lower than the original hitch. Obviously a ground clearance and trailer hitch adjustment situation.
The hitch took a few days to ship once it got to the final shipping location the package was damaged and shipped back to etrailer (ups shipment fault not etrailer) without me ever seeing the box. I called etrailer and they shipped a new one out within minutes. Talk about awesome. It arrived in a few days unharmed. As far as installation on my Dodge Ram 3500 dually, it was pretty straight forward. There was one issue. The most forward bolt had to have a rectangle steel piece, that must be fished through the frame rail. This step was a nightmare and I ruined one of my telescoping magnets. Overall great product, heavy and the finish looks great.
Packing was poor at best. As seen in the attached pictures, no box or padding of any kind, every surface of the new hitch has scratches and dings, making more work for me to protect the surfaces from rust….would have been fine buying a used and abused item. I see the use of fiber tape, I am sure that will take even More work to remove the adhesive. Not a happy camper- have not even removed what is left of the packaging to see more damage. Another review coming for fit, installation and finish! Can’t wait for another disappointment!
Received my hitch receiver and installed it in about 2 or 3 hours working by myself. I could do it much faster now. They include these really cool wires for fishing the bolts and washers through the frame. The instructions were straight forward. The only complaint I have is that I lost some ground clearance but since this is installed directly below the factory hitch you have no choice. It is certainly heavy duty.
Shipped out quickly. Directions where easy to follow. The fishing wire to fish bolts into place was great. Easy install with basic hand tools.
Well built reciever. Not a perfect fit tho, but as close as its gets i guess. Very heavy-duty. I would like to see a replacement for the factory location.
We received the hitch receiver in a timely manner. Box was beyond destroyed by UPS but the two items we ordered were still in the box and all the hardware. Items were not damaged but just a few scuffs and scratches. Once we got the receiver under the truck we (myself and my husband) lined up the mounting holes by using a jack …My husband tried not using the fishwire to put the spacers and bolts in and kept loosing them inside the frame rail. Guys! If you loose these inside the frame it will take small fingers to get them out so have your wife ready to help you or just use the fishwire per the directions. Once he got on track with the directions, install went pretty quick and easy…following the directions carefully (because I read them!!) Bolted right up underneath the factory tow hitch receiver. We’re still waiting on our WDH to be able to tow our trailer so I don’t have a review on performance but I can say this thing is heavy duty for sure. Will update once we are able to get out on the road.

Receiver takes a little dexterity to install but it is doable. Work well with the Curt weight distribution hitch.. made very well, heavy duty quality welds. I am very pleased with the product I would recommend this receiver to anyone looking for a well made heavy duty trailer hitch
No issues with the hitch itself at all, its a nice sturdy assembly. I would recommend having two strong people for an easy install. I did it by myself with a floor jack, but another set of strong hands would have been much better. The etrailer install video does a good job of showing how to use the fish wire for the bolts. But, on my 2003 Ram 3500 long bed the bumper bracket bolts keep you from lifting the hitch vertically. I had to slide it in from the rear to clear the welded on nuts, so you don't want the bolts in place till the hitch is up there at least on my long bed 3500. I held the hitch in place with a floor jack while I fished in the plates and bolts. This is a great option if you don't want to lift the bed to remove a factory hitch. Having the two stacked receivers is a first for me, but I didn't want to remove the OEM set up with all my heavy tool boxes in the bed.
Install was smooth and easy. Definitely a 2 person job with getting the hitch into place. Will be towing my small Ford Ranger from Louisiana to Oklahoma in a few weeks so will report back how well things go. So far couldn’t be more satisfied.
Very strong hitch. Simple, straightforward installation. One person install with ratchet strap and floor jack.
Great hitch, fit right up underneath factory one on my 04 3500 dodge. Little bit hard to get bolts in, recommend having small retractable magnet to help pick them up or retrieve if you drop inside frame.

The quality of the hitch is outstanding. The installation instructions are a little lacking in my opinion. But the hitch is top notch.

Bought this hitch to supplement the factory hitch. I commercially tow and this receiver will replace the factory one with 350,000 miles. Very good product in my opinion, second time I have done this. Easy to install.
Nice hitch. Good quality and easy to install. It does hang a little lower than I would like. Luckily my '04 Dodge 2500 4x4 sits high enough not to drag the hitch when hauling livestock from the pastures. Might not be the case for 2wd models.
