Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.
Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.
In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

This fully welded, corrosion-resistant vehicle trailer hitch receiver is perfect for your light-duty towing needs. Draw-Tite's Tested Tough guarantee ensures that this hitch exceeds industry standards. Drawbar sold separately. Was relatively easy to install. About 30 min by myself. The wire/spring tool that wraps around two of the bolts to feed through the car frame were indispensable!
My goal was to install the hitch on my 2001 Honda Accord in the amount of time suggested for the product (50 minutes). It took me about 90 minutes. The only slow down was enlarging the access holes in the frame. I didn't have an air chisel like in the video, so I tried a file. No luck. Dremel. No luck. Finally used a cold chisel and hammer to slightly enlarge the access holes.
The wire that fishes the bolt into the frame hole worked GREAT! Couldn't have done it without that. All the holes lined up perfectly. I did need an extra set of hands to support the hitch while I got the washers and nuts started on the frame support. Everything torqued down like it's supposed to.
Cons:
Be careful to not knock the bolt up into the frame rail after you remove the "fishing wire". I did, and it took a while to fish the bolt back out.
Even with the frame bolts loose, the bolt for the tow hook bracket seemed to be about 1/2" too short. My bolt did not go all the way through the nut, even when torqued to the 75 ft/lbs that was recommended. I'll be watching this nut and bolt to see if they loosen up.
Unless I missed it, the directions don't tell you which way to turn the toothed washer. I turned them towards the frame of the car.
In conclusion, I'm very happy with the hitch. The customer service of etrailer is top notch. I placed my order on Friday afternoon and on Monday, it arrived.
I called to ask what to do when the bolt disappeared into the frame rail and the lady I spoke to was very helpful. I used her advise and got the bolt back out in a few minutes.
I would definitely order another hitch from this company.
Installation went great on a 2000 Honda Accord. My fiancee's car had really rusty muffler hangers so it took a bit longer due to extra care, but the trailer fit exactly. You can definitely do it yourself with adequate time, but had I had a helper for the final moments of installation it would've sped it up by several minutes if someone else had lifted the receiver as I screwed it into place. Be safe and good luck.
Fairly easy install if you have a lift, watch the you tube video for spacer and washer placement at the accord tow hook. I used a chisel and hammer with three wacks on each hole of the frame, cake to install.
A pretty quick install especially with the help of the provided bolt leaders. The bolt leaders saved a ton of stress and time. Fits great and works perfectly with my 1UP-USA bike rack.
I bought this a year ago and I never regretted it since. It has made many tripes over 1000 miles and has not failed. The only thing wrong was the guy up in my car because it’s the coupe. We got it to work and have not had a problem since.
Bought the frame for my Accord. Bolted right up. Had to widen two holes as the instructions said. No surprises. Hauled cross country with it. No problems.

This was a fun project and one that I did mostly on my own. Out of convenience, I had someone hold a flashlight for me twice, but could have managed without it if I had to. The install was relatively easy and only took about an hour because I read these reviews and the install guide first. The grinding of the access holes didn't take very long. You don't need to do a ton of grinding. As others have mentioned, a longer carriage bolt is definitely necessary on the tie down hook (closest to the bumper). I was able to get the nut on, but had to leave the washer off. I didn't have to purchase extra spacers. I just made sure to crank it tight. I'll probably go get a longer bolt and add the washer though.
The one thing that was a little strange to me is that the hitch seems just slightly crooked. Just enough to be annoying. We'll see what it looks like after I put my bike rack on it. If it's too crooked, I'll just have to add a thin spacer on one side.
The purchasing process was flawless and I would highly recommend using etrailer.com. Great customer service and the shipment actually arrived early. Thanks!
Excellent for bike rack
The installation of the hitch was not that difficult, it took me about one hour. The enlargement of the hole is done in one spot of the hole so that the rectangular spacer and the head of the bolt can fit through the hole, enlarge the hole a little bit at a time and try to see if both fit in, I used a chisel to enlarge the spot. Where the hitch hangs in the middle with a 1/2x2 bolt it is better to use a bolt that is 1/2 longer, the 2" bolt provided is not long enough to hold all the spacers.
The hitch fits almost perfectly. A little tweaking was necessary but is typical in this type of application. I had an almost identical hitch on my Honda Civic and had years of serviceability. It looks good and works great! Thank you etrailer.com for great pricing and exceptional service!
I bought this for my 2002 Accord to haul my bikes. Works great. Took 15 minutes to install. Great instructions and parts.
Had a local mechanic installed it for my 2001 Acura TL about a year ago. This is a solid hitch receiver. It was easy to order from etrailer, received the product on time. I bought a Tyger 4-bike rack that has both the 1-1/4" and 2" hitch connection options. So far so good.
The drawtite receiver hitch I ordered for my 1999 Honda Accord arrived in 2-3 days and was well packed and in excellent condition. I backed the car so that the rear area extended over the edge of a 4' retaining wall at the edge of my parking area, so access for installation was good with the use of some knee pads. Installation was easy after watching the videos online...and the hitch fit well. I did put a small dent in the bottom edge of the gas tank to help with positioning, but after all was in place and the bolts snugged up, it appeared that that may have been more for my convenience than by necessity. I am very pleased with the hitch and the service provided by E-trailer. I am using it primarily with a heavy duty bike rack from Kuat, and also as a backup tow vehicle for my Demco dolly if I need to move it somewhere. (I tow the Honda on the dolly behind my bus when we go on trips.)
It’s everything they said it was
Had to install the rear bolts before the front one due to incredibly tight fit in a 2003 Acura. The "snake coils" worked like charms. I also only lowered the mufflers and did not have to disconnect either one. Nice package, including a custom made trailer light connection that fit right into the Acura wiring harness.
I use this hitch with Thule Apex 4 bike rack. I thought that there might be some play with the 1-1/4" receiver, but the rack is just as solid with the 1-1/4" receiver as it is with the 2" receiver on my other car. It works well for a bike rack.
As for the short carriage bolt for the center rear mount, the supplied bolt is log enough (barely), but use a large set of vise-grips to hold everything together tightly, this will let enough of the bolt threads to be exposed to start the nut. Once that bolt is started, you can release the vise-grips and then torque the bolt to spec. Once torqued down, the bolt holds just fine.
Fit like a glove. Fast easy installation. Great price and super fast delivery. Great customer support. Thanls
The product fit well and the etrailer video was spot on. However, as I torqued the bolts holding the hitch to the accords with a Snap-On click style torque wrench, that has been calibrated, one of them stripped out. Fortunately a hardware store was down the street and I could get a bolt to replace the failed fastener. If you did this at home and didn't have any fasteners laying around I'm sure you would be very unhappy as I was. With bolt replace everything worked well including the wiring harness from etrailer. I would buy again I just would be prepared for the unexpected.
Tailer has held up well unfortently for my make and model I would of had to do alot of metal cutting to get the washers above the bolt seates inwas able to get them one two of the frame contact points however one of the washers I was unable to install. It has been a very solid porduct with the of couse if youre leaving youre hitch on in saltwatee eviorments puting a coating of marine grease in were the ball hitch goes. Will go a long way. My only isuee is I ordered a ball kf improper size and the cost of shiping would of make the return not worth doing.. I ordered the correct size my only other recommendation is make sure youre trailer touge lock is tight and I would keep youre chains tight. Which this mount allows you to do. When my tounge lock needed to be tighened down and I lost my 6000 dollar kayak the place where you can put the chains was a life saver on what would of been a very costly mistake
.. Overall a very solid product.
etrailer - shipping was fast. I think it took 3 days. Arrived in an oversized box that it broke through slightly, but arrived undamaged. The hardware was bagged and taped to the hitch to assure it wouldn't get lost.
Draw-tite - the hitch is made ok. The welds were basic and not of the highest quality, but they'll work. The holes lined up with my frame. The installation process was sound and worked well. I think installation was about 2 hours. I used the crescent wrench technique to open up the frame holes a bit. That worked well. I tried to use a file for about 3 seconds realizing the absurdity of that. The bolt puller wire worked well.
Tip: I was concerned with accidentally pushing the bolts back up into the frame when trying to mount the hitch. Wrap just a bit of masking tape around the bolt right at the frame to keep it from pushing through the hole.
Installation time excludes the time it took to run to get a new carriage bolt as the one supplied only engaged a few threads of the nut at the bumper. The bolts for the frame sides were fine. So, expect to have to get a new carriage bolt as the 2" one supplied wasn't nearly long enough.
My only complaint is that once installed, the frame side nut is in the area previously used to allow the muffler to move on the muffler hangers. Now, the nut is directly over the front most edge of the muffler, has about 1/4" clearance and the muffler hits it on every bump that the car hits. I can't see this would be any different for any other hitch that uses this mounting hole in the frame though so i can't fault Draw tite. I anticipate having to buy/install muffler hangers that are slightly longer to provide enough clearance.
This is the second hitch i bought from Etrailer.co Both have been great purchases. and have installed exactly how they show them on their video's in under the time listed. we use them for our bike rack which we also purchased of etrailer.com.
My wife and i comment just about every time we use them how great of an investment they have been.
Will use Etrailer.com for future hitch purchases when we change vehicles and likely another bike rack if our needs change in the future.
Shipping is always very fast and affordable.
Products are quality.
As for customer service i cannot comment as all of my orders have always been correct and carried out in a timely fashion.
Just installed this on my 2000 Honda Accord 2 door v4 coupe. Some tips:
- There is one mounting hole that is blocked by muffler, you don't need to remove the muffler to access it, just simply unhook the 3 muffler rubber hangers, and the muffler can be pushed to the side and you will be able to access the hole, but with limited space, enough to get the job done, but your arm will definitely be sore afterwards.
- The access holes are too small to fit the plate through, simply file the hole as all other people have mentioned, it took me about 10minute to get the first one done, but then the one above muffer is too hard to file due to limited space, so instead file the access hole above the muffler, I filed the plate for 15min and it works too.
- The other guy has mentioned that the bolt that connects the rack to the rear tie down hook (hook on the middle of the trunk) required a couple spacer washers, it happened to me too, it just doesn't fit properly and need additional washers to fill the spaces. and I also need a 3" bolt since the original 2" bolt is not long enough to accommodate the extra space. Make sure to get grade5 or grade8 matching carriage bolt if you need one.
Overall, it was an ok job, took about 2hrs. the things I had to purchase for this:
- jack stand: $25
- spacers: $2
- file: $5
- extra 3" bolt: $5
- torque wrench/sockets: borrowed from a friend.
I am deducting one point since I had to use extra spacers, otherwise it's a good product.
I would like to thank Bridget A. for placing my order, making suggestions for additional products and providing the complete cost including shipping. My order was tracked and the daily information was emailed to me up to the time of delivery at my front door. The instructions to install the hitch and the electrical hookup were informative and I also watched the video for my vehicle on your site. I have been using the hitch and it works great I would recommend etrailer.com for anyone in the market for a hitch.
A little harder to install than advertised. Had to pound in one side of the spare well slightly but metal was very flexible. Don't scrape off the rubbrr undercoating. Did not remove the wire leads. Used them to hold the bolt while I screwed the nut on. Otherwise bolt easily pushes back into the beam. Put both nuts on first without washer. Tightened them. Then remove nuts one at a time, put washer on with teeth facing up, then put nut back on and then did the same with the second washer and nut. Bolts are kind of short and it was too hard to get the nut on with the washer the first time. Afterwards I cut off the dangling wires from the leads.
But now the hitch is on really tight. I will check it after towing for a few miles and retighten. I think this hitch is better than the one where you have to drill holes in the wheel well. Seems very strong and tight now. Hammered the edge of the plates in the side of the holes to widen them. Easier than using a file. Needed to detach three rubber muffler hangers and pull muffler down slightly to get the steel plates in the hole. Whole job took about two hours. I drove my rear wheels up on four inch blocks and slid the cardboard box underneath to make a good work area. Otherwise hondas are too close to the ground. Have fun.
