Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

A pretty quick install especially with the help of the provided bolt leaders. The bolt leaders saved a ton of stress and time. Fits great and works perfectly with my 1UP-USA bike rack.

2001 Honda Accord

My goal was to install the hitch on my 2001 Honda Accord in the amount of time suggested for the product (50 minutes). It took me about 90 minutes. The only slow down was enlarging the access holes in the frame. I didn't have an air chisel like in the video, so I tried a file. No luck. Dremel. No luck. Finally used a cold chisel and hammer to slightly enlarge the access holes. The wire that fishes the bolt into the frame hole worked GREAT! Couldn't have done it without that. All the holes lined up perfectly. I did need an extra set of hands to support the hitch while I got the washers and nuts started on the frame support. Everything torqued down like it's supposed to. Cons: Be careful to not knock the bolt up into the frame rail after you remove the "fishing wire". I did, and it took a while to fish the bolt back out. Even with the frame bolts loose, the bolt for the tow hook bracket seemed to be about 1/2" too short. My bolt did not go all the way through the nut, even when torqued to the 75 ft/lbs that was recommended. I'll be watching this nut and bolt to see if they loosen up. Unless I missed it, the directions don't tell you which way to turn the toothed washer. I turned them towards the frame of the car. In conclusion, I'm very happy with the hitch. The customer service of etrailer is top notch. I placed my order on Friday afternoon and on Monday, it arrived. I called to ask what to do when the bolt disappeared into the frame rail and the lady I spoke to was very helpful. I used her advise and got the bolt back out in a few minutes. I would definitely order another hitch from this company.

Comments
Well after using the hitch for a year, I am still very happy with it. I use it to pull a lightweight kayak trailer. The mount is still tight and the finish on the metal is still like new! When I buy another car, I will order another Hidden Hitch from etrailer.com.

2001 Honda Accord

2001 Honda Accord Coupe 6cyl This was a fun project and one that I did mostly on my own. Out of convenience, I had someone hold a flashlight for me twice, but could have managed without it if I had to. The install was relatively easy and only took about an hour because I read these reviews and the install guide first. The grinding of the access holes didn't take very long. You don't need to do a ton of grinding. As others have mentioned, a longer carriage bolt is definitely necessary on the tie down hook (closest to the bumper). I was able to get the nut on, but had to leave the washer off. I didn't have to purchase extra spacers. I just made sure to crank it tight. I'll probably go get a longer bolt and add the washer though. The one thing that was a little strange to me is that the hitch seems just slightly crooked. Just enough to be annoying. We'll see what it looks like after I put my bike rack on it. If it's too crooked, I'll just have to add a thin spacer on one side. The purchasing process was flawless and I would highly recommend using etrailer.com. Great customer service and the shipment actually arrived early. Thanks!

2001 Honda Accord

The installation of the hitch was not that difficult, it took me about one hour. The enlargement of the hole is done in one spot of the hole so that the rectangular spacer and the head of the bolt can fit through the hole, enlarge the hole a little bit at a time and try to see if both fit in, I used a chisel to enlarge the spot. Where the hitch hangs in the middle with a 1/2x2 bolt it is better to use a bolt that is 1/2 longer, the 2" bolt provided is not long enough to hold all the spacers.

Excellent product and service. Fast shipping. Not meant for heavy-duty towing, but is good for very small trailers like for a small dirtbike/ATV or kayak/canoe trailer. Also good for bike holder attachments or similar.

Tailer has held up well unfortently for my make and model I would of had to do alot of metal cutting to get the washers above the bolt seates inwas able to get them one two of the frame contact points however one of the washers I was unable to install. It has been a very solid porduct with the of couse if youre leaving youre hitch on in saltwatee eviorments puting a coating of marine grease in were the ball hitch goes. Will go a long way. My only isuee is I ordered a ball kf improper size and the cost of shiping would of make the return not worth doing.. I ordered the correct size my only other recommendation is make sure youre trailer touge lock is tight and I would keep youre chains tight. Which this mount allows you to do. When my tounge lock needed to be tighened down and I lost my 6000 dollar kayak the place where you can put the chains was a life saver on what would of been a very costly mistake .. Overall a very solid product.

A little harder to install than advertised. Had to pound in one side of the spare well slightly but metal was very flexible. Don't scrape off the rubbrr undercoating. Did not remove the wire leads. Used them to hold the bolt while I screwed the nut on. Otherwise bolt easily pushes back into the beam. Put both nuts on first without washer. Tightened them. Then remove nuts one at a time, put washer on with teeth facing up, then put nut back on and then did the same with the second washer and nut. Bolts are kind of short and it was too hard to get the nut on with the washer the first time. Afterwards I cut off the dangling wires from the leads. But now the hitch is on really tight. I will check it after towing for a few miles and retighten. I think this hitch is better than the one where you have to drill holes in the wheel well. Seems very strong and tight now. Hammered the edge of the plates in the side of the holes to widen them. Easier than using a file. Needed to detach three rubber muffler hangers and pull muffler down slightly to get the steel plates in the hole. Whole job took about two hours. I drove my rear wheels up on four inch blocks and slid the cardboard box underneath to make a good work area. Otherwise hondas are too close to the ground. Have fun.

The product fit well and the etrailer video was spot on. However, as I torqued the bolts holding the hitch to the accords with a Snap-On click style torque wrench, that has been calibrated, one of them stripped out. Fortunately a hardware store was down the street and I could get a bolt to replace the failed fastener. If you did this at home and didn't have any fasteners laying around I'm sure you would be very unhappy as I was. With bolt replace everything worked well including the wiring harness from etrailer. I would buy again I just would be prepared for the unexpected.

2001 Honda Accord

My comments are regarding a hitch that I purchased for a 2001 Honda Accord. I want to use the hitch to mount a bicycle carrier. The quality of the hitch and hardware is excellent and I would gladly provide five stars for this category. I am rating my overall experience at three stars due to the difficulty in mounting the hitch to my car. The difficulty was compounded due to the fact that the reinforcing plates and bolts are too large for the access holes on the frame. I don't know why the plates and bolts were oversize, since my order was specifically for a 2001 Honda Accord and the access holes in the frame are uniform. As it is, I was able to enlarge one of the holes with my Dremel tool. The other hole was above the muffler and even though I lowered the exhaust, as per instructions, there was only about 5 inches between the frame and lowered muffler. It wasn't possible to use the Dremel tool or a file. My only choice was to use a bench grinder to take about 1/16 of an inch off the reinforcement plate and grind down the bolt head so it could fit through the access hole. The wires used to fish the bolt and plate into the proper frame hole are not easy to use. To thread the bolt and plate through the hole above the exhaust was extremely difficult, so I made an eyelet on one end of the wire and attached a 5 inch length of strong white twine. When you fish the assembly through the access hole, the twine is easy to see and will drop down through the proper frame hole. The third and final bolt to secure the hitch to the car, required us to put a bottle jack under the tube end of the hitch and jack it up, so it would align with the bolt holes. Without the jack, it would have been impossible to finish the job. I consider myself an above average "do it yourself person" with lots of tools on hand and it took me about 4 hours from start to finish. Let me finish by saying that the price of my hitch was excellent, quality is great and shipping was prompt. All in all a great deal, but not an easy task in mounting the hitch to the car. If you're not an experienced handyman then understand that you'll have to pay someone to do the work.

1999 Ford Edge

The drawtite receiver hitch I ordered for my 1999 Honda Accord arrived in 2-3 days and was well packed and in excellent condition. I backed the car so that the rear area extended over the edge of a 4' retaining wall at the edge of my parking area, so access for installation was good with the use of some knee pads. Installation was easy after watching the videos online...and the hitch fit well. I did put a small dent in the bottom edge of the gas tank to help with positioning, but after all was in place and the bolts snugged up, it appeared that that may have been more for my convenience than by necessity. I am very pleased with the hitch and the service provided by E-trailer. I am using it primarily with a heavy duty bike rack from Kuat, and also as a backup tow vehicle for my Demco dolly if I need to move it somewhere. (I tow the Honda on the dolly behind my bus when we go on trips.)

Great product, easy install. I used a 5lb mallet and a cold chisel to reshape the holes for the bolts on the arms. Cost about 10 bucks at your hardware store. Had it on in 50 minutes including the trip the hardware store.

I use this hitch on my Honda Accord basically every day. I havent taken the bike rack off the hitch in like 6 months. High quality and no issues at all. My experience with Etrailer.com has honestly been one of the best consumer experiences that I've ever had, especially from an online retailer. Cant recommend them enough.

Honda Accord

The receiver and draw-bar came via UPS very quickly. I installed them the same day but found that the receiver was interfering with the tank where the spare tire is placed. After attaching the two outlying Arms of the receiver the arms interfered with the spare tire tank as they came into contact with the sides of the tank. This interference between the parts disallowed the bar to raise at the rear where it could be attached to the ring with the single bolt and steel plates. In order to make it come together I had to use a hydraulic jack to force the rear of the receiver upward into close proximity with the ring. Doing this caused some crushing of the spare tire tank at its sides. No significant damage was done by doing this but I was a bit annoyed that the part wasn’t Fabricated to fit around the tire tank with some clearance. Do I like this hitch? Definitely yes. The parts are made with real quality. The price was the best. I do wish that it fit a little better in the case of my Honda Accord but apart from that everything went really well. I especially appreciate the great video that was on the etrailer web site that showed the installation process. This was an excellent help. I would definitely recommend this to my friends.

Super easy install if you follow the video. I thought it would be hard to get those bolts through the frame holes but using the supplied bolt guides made it a breeze. I have the v6 dual exhaust Acura so I just pulled both mufflers off and had all the space I needed to install the hitch. I love it when something goes easy for a change. Hitch looks great too!

The good review is for the site customer assistance. I called in and got probably the most informative and useful comments I have ever got in Internet shopping, in helping me pick the right hitch. It also came fairly promptly, even though cross-border. I had my mechanic install so I can't comment on ease of installation, but it certainly didn't take him long. Haven't picked up the bike carrier yet (the purpose of getting it) so can't comment on ease of use yet. Thanks to Kim P again.

Acura

Had to install the rear bolts before the front one due to incredibly tight fit in a 2003 Acura. The "snake coils" worked like charms. I also only lowered the mufflers and did not have to disconnect either one. Nice package, including a custom made trailer light connection that fit right into the Acura wiring harness.

The receiver on the trailer hitches for your 2001 Honda Accord, including # 24791, are recessed a little under the rear of the vehicle. The Swagman Semi, # S64686, would not work when folded up because it is only 3 inches back from the center of the hitch pin hole when folded. The Kuat Sherpa, # SH12G, measures 7-1/2 inches from the center of the pin hole back to the nearest part of the carrier. The Sherpa does accept wheel sizes from 20 inches to 29 inches. The Kuat NV, # NV12G,...

  • Best Heavy Electric Bike Rack for Limited Spare Tire Clearance
You're looking for a bike rack with heavy e-bike capacity and sits out far enough for your door. First, a good hitch for your Toyota Rav4 is the Curt Class III Hitch # C13524. This hitch has the most tongue weight capacity at 400 lbs. There's also 10" from the hitchpin hole to the outside of the spare tire on a 2001 Toyota Rav4 so that's the minimum clearance you need in a bike rack which is a lot. As for your 2000 Honda Accord, the best hitch is a Draw-Tite Class I # 24791 with...

  • Trunk-Mount Recumbent Bike Carrier for 2002 Honda Accord 2-Door Coupe
Thank you for the photo of your bike, which appears to be a recumbent type. Often these bikes are fairly heavy and long, and that is a consideration for a trunk-mount type bike rack since the entire weight of the rack and bike will be on the trunk/hatch. The Thule Passage 2 Bike Carrier # TH910XT is a confirmed fit on your 2002 Honda Accord 2-door coupe and it provides a 35-lbs-per-bike weight capacity. If your bike is within this weight rating then this rack is a fine cost-effective...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 1998 Honda Accord
The trailer hitch receiver I recommend for your 1998 Honda Accord is the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24791. This is the best option for a hitch because it does not require drilling to install, unlike the other hitch that fits your Accord, the Curt # C11290. I have added a link to a video install for you to check out as well of the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24791.

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for 60 lb Schwinn Cruiser Tour on 1999 Honda Accord
It sounds like you're looking for a trunk mount bike rack, but these types of racks aren't designed to carry the weight of an e-bike, so that isn't an option for your application. Instead, I recommend the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 1 Bike # KU64FR which is confirmed to fit with your 1999 Honda Accord as long as you have a trailer hitch installed. This rack can carry a single bike with a maximum weight of 60 lbs and the rack itself only weighs 26 lbs, so it's super easy to take...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2002 Acura TLS
The only trailer hitch that fits your 2002 Acura TLS and that does not require the use of a stabilization strap is Draw-Tite hitch # 24791 and it will only fit if the vehicle has the 3.2 liter motor. The hitch is mostly hidden because of how far back it mounts. You would have to be right behind the vehicle and low to the ground to see the cross tube. If your Acura has the 2.5 liter motor then the only option is Curt trailer hitch # C11290 which does require stabilization strap # 18050...

  • 1-1/4 Inch to 2 Inch Hitch Adapter For 2002 Honda Accord
We do not have a trailer hitch with a 2 inch receiver opening that is a confirmed fit for the 2002 Honda Accord. However if you install # 24791 and use Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch # HTAD that will give a 2 inch receiver opening. You will need 5/8" pin for 2" receiver # PC3 and 1/2" pin for 1-1/4" receiver # PC2 Please note that tongue weight capacity of hitch will be reduced by 50% with use of adapter.

  • Will a Trunk Mount Bike Rack Like The Thule # Th910XT Fit on a 2000 Honda Accord with Rear Spoiler
The best option for your vehicle would be a hitch bike rack and a receiver hitch installed on your vehicle. The Draw-Tite Class I Trailer Hitch, item # 24791, would make a great choice for carrying bikes on your vehicle along with the Thule Helium Aero 2 Bike Carrier for 1-1/4 inch and 2 inch Hitches - Tilting - Hitch Mount, item # TH9042PRO. I cannot recommend a trunk mounted bike rack for the 2000 Honda Accord 2 or 4 door with a spoiler attached to the rear of the vehicle. The spoiler...

  • Two Bike Rack Recommendation for 2001 Honda Accord 2-Door With A Rear Spoiler
To carry two bikes on your 2001 Honda Accord 2-Door with a spoiler your best bet is to use a hitch like the Draw-Tite Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # 24791 and a hitch mounted bike rack like the Thule Helium Aero 2 Bike Carrier, part # TH9042PRO. I am including links to the instructions on the hitch and the Thule bike rack. If you want to stick with a trunk mount rack, the Hollywood Racks Expedition, # HRF6-2, is my recommendation. This bike rack has arced arms to go up and over factory...

  • Cargo Carrier for 1999 Honda Accord and 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid
The cargo carrier you mentioned, the Curt 20 by 48 Cargo Carrier, part # C18145 would work just fine with either vehicle if it is equipped with a receiver hitch. The cargo carrier also includes an adapter that will allow the carrier to be used in vehicles with a Class III receiver. A receiver hitch is what would bolt to the vehicle behind the back bumper. The Curt Cargo Carrier you referenced, part # C18145 would slide into the receiver hitch. Receiver hitches are typically vehicle-specific,...
