Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

2022 Mazda 3 hatchback FWD. PDF instructions are much easier to follow but over all it’s a pretty straightforward process. I did it in about an hour and a half in my driveway. Grinding out the hole was the most time consuming part-everything else went exactly as advertised.

Just a thought- after I was done with the installation I just used a dremel to modify the underbody appearance panel for fit and re installed it. I thought it helped make the bottom edge of the bumper feel more secure.. probably not totally necessary but it is possible to get it back on the car.

Overall very happy with it. It is very non obtrusive when the bike rack is off.

by:
2021 Mazda 3

The process started off OK - had the car up on a lift, lowered the exhaust, widened the access holes in the frame rails (btw - highly recommend using a stepper bit for this). Then we bolted the hitch receiver down, making sure to pull it towards the back of the car when doing so in order to make sure it was aligned with the car's frame rails.

Then we lowered it to the ground and the receiver was clearly pointing to the right side of the car. So we raised it back up and pushed the left side towards the front of the car as much as possible when ratcheting the bolts down.

Better (mostly)! Then we took it for a test drive and heard the dreaded rattle. We ended up cutting a bit of the tab away on the left side of the muffler to match the design on the right side and the noise is gone.

by:

Great hitch, wasn't the easiest to install but that wasn't really the hitch design mostly the cars frame designs fault, works great to pull small trailers like my seadoo. Overall works great!

by:
2022 Mazda 3

If the instructions were better I would give 5 stars. Perfect fit, great quality but on a 2022 Mazda 3 hatchback I needed to trim a piece of plastic that supports the bottom of the bumper cover. This wasn’t specified in the directions so I kind thought I may have done something wrong. After trimming the piece it is perfect.

by:
Mazda

It required a little bit of trimming of plastic bumper skirts on a 2021 Mazda 3, but otherwise fit well. Note*. The Mazda 3 isn’t really supposed to be able to use a trailer hitch, but the unibody is virtually unchanged from the previous year and it works fine.

by:
2019 Mazda 3

it was not 100% "no cut" installation, a few of the sub frame opening needed to be widen
definitely not a 30-45 min job, more like 2 hours with a lift
that said, the hitch fitted nicely on the car, mine is the AWD model and it fits with no issue

by:

As always, great assembly. Everything was there, the assembly is top notch, and easy to follow instructions. The customer was happy with the install and loaded up her bikes to travel back home.

by:

Installation per the instructions was super easy.

The only addition I would make to the instructions is to make a notch in the rear most muffler hanger on the drivers side. After I completed install and drove around a bit I heard a constant tapping of this muffler bracket on the hitch. I notched the muffler bracket using a metal cutting multitool to clear the hitch and this solved the problem, no more tapping.

by:

Easy install (especially with aftermarket exhaust. No lowering necessary)
Good instructions- FOLLOW them. Make sure you drill holes big enough to fit BOLTS. I make them big enough for spacers only to discover they were not big enough for bolts AFTER I had already threaded wire through! Required very tricky recovery.

by:

As noted in the Q&A, the hitch fits on vehicles fitted with the appearance package / rear skirt. Thanks, etrailer!

by:

2021 Mazda3 Hatchback 2WD. I opted not to buy ramps I would never need again and it was fine. As others have said, the hardest part was enlarging the hole to fit the carriage bolts through. I ended up using a Dewalt rotary rasp from Lowe’s. Definitely takes two people to actually bolt the hitch on though. I don’t have a torque wrench, so I gave it all the torques. Wear gloves—my hands are all kinds of mangled.

Fits my Kuat rack well.

2020 Mazda 3

Nice hitch receiver for my 2020 Mazda 3 hatchback and not too bad of a job. The included installation instructions in the box were pretty poor including only one picture which made determining which holes to install the hitch a bit confusing. However, the instructions on the product provided step by step pictures and made the process easier. I was able to install this almost completely by myself within a few hours using jack stands. As the product mentions there is drilling but a step bit did the trick enlarging the access holes (make sure to test that the bolt head can fit through before threading in everything). The hitch does sit a bit inwards so make sure your accessories will fit. My Kuat Sherpa bike rack fit perfectly.

by:

Ordered a hitch for my mazda3. I already had a hitch mount bike rack I was using on another vehicle but needed an adapter to use in the new rack. Ordered the rack and adapter. Within an hour I get an email and phone call from Michelle saying I ordered an adapter that would not work with the hitch I got. She said she would correct the order and get the correct parts out immediately. Within a few days I had the hitch and correct adapter delivered to my house. Customer service like this is second to none. Can’t believe how in tune they are at going beyond what you would expect from an online company. A++++ all around. Highly recommend

by:

This group of folks does a fantastic job of customer service. Great follow up. I fond out they were not listing a hitch for my car (after several calls) and when the mistake on their website became apparent, they corrected it ASAP.
I'll always use them for future hitch needs!!!

by:

Perfection! Never have done much with doing things on my car, leave that to the experts. However, heard it was simple enough so I attempted to install the hitch myself. Hardest part is the time it takes to die-drill a hole in the frame. No matter, it worked and was a piece of cake after that. Super durable and appreciate that it's plain black so it blends better. No regrets!

by:
Mazda

Worked perfectly for my my 4th gen mazda 3 hatchback. Use it all the time for bike racks.

by:

Good product. Fit as advertised.

by:

Worked great on my 2019 Mazda 3 awd

by:

Hitch receiver is doing its job well. Found a better way to install - able to avoid drilling and grinding by temporarily removing the rear bumper.

by:
2020 Mazda 3

Welds and overall quality seem fine. Professional installer ($165) had no trouble with the install. Used twice now for carrying bicycles, no problems. Only complaint is the welded loops are directly over the hole for the fixing bolt, making the turns to tighten the bolt very short. Using a ratchet is much better than open wrench.

by:
2019 Mazda 3

Excellent fit. Took me about 2 hours. Most of the time was spent enlarging the two hardware access holes. Other than that it was a smooth process.

by:
2020 Mazda 3

Super nice. Works great. Looks fantas tic

  • What is The Highest Capacity Trailer Hitch Available For 2020 Mazda 3 Hatchback
I recommend the Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame Receiver Hitch part # 24984 for the 2020 Mazda 3 Hatchback which has 200 lb tongue weight rating. That is the highest capacity available for the 2020 Mazda 3 Hatchback because Mazda does not recommend towing a trailer according to the owner's manual. It is not designed to tow extra weight. The Mazda 3 is designed as a passenger vehicle only so the Class I hitch is normally used for accessories like Class I compatible bike racks or cargo carriers....

  • Which Trailer Hitch Will Fit 2020 Mazda 3 Hatchback
For your 2020 Mazda 3 Hatchback the Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame Receiver Hitch # 24984 is a confirmed fit and will work perfectly. This custom hitch will line right up to existing holes in the vehicle's frame rails for a bolt-on (no-drill) installation and features a 200 pound tongue weight capacity and a 2,000 pound towing limit. All the necessary hardware will be included. I have attached the full installation manual below that you can also look through.

  • Recommendation for Highest Capacity Trailer Hitch for 2020 Mazda 3 Hatchback
For your 2020 Mazda 3 Hatchback we have the Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame Receiver Hitch # 24984, which represents the highest rated option available with a 2,000 pound towing weight capacity and a 200 pound tongue weight limit. Based on my research both of these numbers exceed the capacities of the vehicle itself, so you aren't going to be limited by the trailer hitch. This Class I hitch will line right up to existing holes in the Mazda's frame rails for a bolt-on (no-drill) installation...

  • Fit of Draw-Tite 24984 Class I Hitch on 2021 Mazda 3 Turbo Hatchback
The problem you're experiencing is a fairly common one. Because an exhaust system uses rubber hangers, the exact positioning of the exhaust can vary among different cars of the same year, make and model while the exact position of the hitch will NOT vary from vehicle to vehicle. It will always sit in the same exact spot on every 2021 Mazda 3. The good news is that there are a couple of solutions. The easiest would be to slightly bend the muffler hanger away from the hitch which will...

  • Best Trailer Hitch for a 2021 Mazda To Carry A Bike Rack
For your 2021 Mazda 3 there is actually only the one option, the Draw-Tite # 24984 which is a Class I trailer hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver; the tongue weight rating is for 200 lbs. Although this has a towing weight rating of 2,000 lbs, it should be noted that Mazda recommends you not tow with the Mazda 3. But if your intent is for bike rack use only, no worries. I did however, want to provide that information in case it was of value.

  • Noise After Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Install On 2022 Mazda 3 Hatchback
There is no trimming required for the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24984 on a 2022 Mazda 3. The only thing we typically see creating noise after install is heat shields and mufflers. The bumper and hitch are both fixed so this is not likely the issue. That said, I have attached a help article below which goes over some things you can do to help cut down noise from the exhaust if this ends up being the issue.

I recommend the Draw-Tite Class I SportFrame hitch part # 24984 which will fit the 2020 Mazda 3 without drilling and will give you a 1-1/4" receiver opening for a cargo carrier or other accessories like a bike rack. The hitch is rated for 200 lbs of tongue weight in the cargo carrier so you do not want to exceed the tongue weight of the hitch. For a cargo carrier I recommend Reese Cargo Carrier part # 63155 which will provide you with 47" long x 20" wide of usable space in the carrier.

  • 2 Inch Hitch Availability for 2020 Mazda 3
Unfortunately, there isn't a 2 inch hitch available for the 2020 Mazda 3, primarily because the underbody structure of the vehicle wouldn't be capable of withstanding the on-the-road forces applied to a hitch with a higher tongue weight capacity.
