Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario. Technical Support

Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" - 36416

Average Customer Rating:  4.8 out of 5 stars   (196 Customer Reviews)

This fully welded, corrosion-resistant vehicle trailer hitch receiver is perfect for your light-duty towing needs. Draw-Tite's Tested Tough guarantee ensures that this hitch exceeds industry standards. Drawbar sold separately.

Hitch is a great fit for our vehicle, however, the unit was not packed or shipped with much care. The hitch was delivered with large scratches and pretty banged up because it was placed very loose in the box. I have bought maybe 4 hitches through etrailer and this is the first time an item was sent with such lack of detail (at least that I can remember.) Hope this is not the standard for the future.

I will have our customer service team reach out to you. I recommend touching up the affected places on the hitch with a rust resistant paint. This will help to prevent rust and also you will have it on hand for regular hitch maintenance.

2011 Toyota Camry

The hitch was exactly as ordered and fit perfectly. It is sturdy and a great value. It arrived quickly to CA. I really liked the videos and reviews on the site which gave me ideas and a sense of knowing I was installing everything correctly. I, like most of us, do not have access to a lift, but I used the ramps I have for oil changes on our cars. I just backed up on them and and chocked the front wheels. I also do not have lifting help and I am 71 so I set the hitch on a floor jack and my wife raised it up as I guided it in behind the bumper cover. I read a review that said he was able to install without dropping the muffler, and I did the same. Thanks for that tip, it was easy. Our Camry had weld nuts on both sides, maybe because it is one of the early 2011 models, which made it very easy. Let me say that I can see the muffler drop if you are using power tools. But if you are using good old had tools it really is not necessary. Another comment about the reviews. One review expressed concern over ware on the spare from the added bolts and the fact of permanently removing a factory bracket. This must have been a brother of mine as I had the same thoughts when I viewed the installation video before ordering. If you have a "donut" spare, like most, with it in the well look through the center hub with a flash light, the added bolts and plates are inside the rim area and never contact the actual tire. The second concern of the bracket removal, after looking at what it was bolted to, and where the added hitch, which is much stronger, is secured, I have no concerns the the bracket is now needed. After clearing the trunk, getting the tools together, and backing on the ramps. From start to final torque down of the bolts it was right at an hour. Note: My wife was very pleased with the hidden appearance of this hitch on "her" car. Always a success when the wife is happy. I recommend this model hitch and ETrailer and will refer friends.

2011 Toyota Camry

Excellent product. Came with good instructions for install, does require a jack, wheel chocks, possibly jack stands, wrenches and ratchet and sockets, and a drill for bracketing thru trunk basin. Does take some time and patience especially dropping the muffler to get up and under it. The hitch itself is great. I use it for my bicycle rack. Once installed it is hidden other than the receiver. Very satisfied and glad I was able to install myself with the good instructions.

2007 Toyota Camry

The hitch was an easy install for one person with a floor jack, if you want more elbow room. You don't need to drop the exhaust on a Toyota Camry LE to complete the install.

Works great

2010 Toyota Camry

So about a year ago I bought a reciever hitch, receiver cover, euro style ball and wiring for my 2010 Camry to tow a 4x8 foldable trailer for powersports......Installation was straight forward and dedicated an afternoon for install.....Directions for the products was easy to follow for both products.... so far the wiring is just as I installed it and the hitch is holding up great, you can barely notice that I have a hitch back there. I think it blends in nicely....I anticipate many years of worry free towing....
Customer service is top notch also ????

2011 Toyota Camry

Installed on 2011 Camrey LE

upgraded shipping to 3-5 day express at no charge. Hitch installed in an hour and fifteen minutes per their instructions. Completely satisfied with etrailer, purchase, and product.

I am interested in purchasing the Drawtite hitch for my 2007 Camry. I have a 2 bike rack mount so I will be using a 1 14 to 2 adapter but I also wanted to raise the rack. Will the MaxxTow Hitch Accessories - MT70355 work with this hitch on a Toyota Camry clear the bumper? Thanks, Dave
-- comment by: Dave M - 10/25/2013

The hitches available for your Camry are Class II, so they will be compatible with the Maxxtow MT70355. Wether or not it will clear your bumper is another matter. With raised or stepped adapters like the MT70355, they can end up making contact with the bumper cover before the pin holes line up in the hitch. A straight expander, like HTAD or MT70032 should not interfere with the bumper cover, particularly with vehicles like the Camry where the hitch tucks up tight to the underbody. Remember too, that these adapters will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch, by 50 percent, so make sur to check your weights.

I only recommend etrailer to people who want to buy a hitch receiver. Amazing videos and amazing service, plus the part installed and has worked great!

The entire hitch looks very solid and well made. It was difficult to install, though. Took me a couple hours to figure out how to get it in place.

Sorry about the difficulty. We have an installation video of your year, make, and model here:

Still works GREAT!

2009 Toyota Camry

We recieved the package in less than a weeks time. Along with the great tutorials I was able to install the trailer hitch in 30 minutes. I have yet to tow anything, but the product seems of high quality. I will be coming back to for all my towing needs.

2011 Toyota Camry

The hitch was here in a couple of days. I installed it today myself. I watched the instructional video and the installation went exactly as described. It's rock solid and looks great. This is the 2nd hitch I've installed from etrailer. 5 stars

No problems at all, well worth the price

The instructions were not good, otherwise the product is great. Had it for a year, it works great.

Easy install and no problems.

2008 Lexus ES 350

This is an excellent product, despite giving only 4 stars. Let me explain. I installed it on my 2007 Lexus es350, but with much more difficulty than implied by the 2008 es350 install video. I'll admit I'm not a seasoned mechanic, but there are a couple of big gotchas that should be noted for installers of the 2007 es350 model. Problem#1) It's not THAT big of a deal, but the hitch directly interferes with the metal tabs that previously held the bumper fascia. The ONLY way to install the hitch on a 2007 model is to either bend the tabs flat or cut them off. It's OK they are not needed but the instructions need to state that, at least for some Lexus models. Problem#2) The hitch could not be positioned into place such that the bolts were aligned at both ends at the same time. It was off by 3/8 in or so. OK, not a lot, but human strength was to no avail. The missing instruction is that you need to align the hitch to get one bolt started at one end. Then, use a hydraulic jack and some 2x4 blocks to lift the other end to make it align at the other end. That did the trick. But, playing around with these two issues took some time and frustration, so I have no brags about a quick installation, like other reviewers. I thought it quaint that the instruction video spent one sentence about bolting the hitch in place.

Complaints about the instructions aside, I'm impressed that the hitch is quite solid and well-hidden behind the bumper. It looks great! I recommend this product.

Solid and easy to install instructions

2011 Toyota Camry

I chose the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch because the crossbar is relatively unseen on my car, a 2011 Toyota Camry. This hitch model does require drilling into the trunk void but that wasn't difficult (other than having to empty the trunk and remove spare tire). There are other models that don't require drilling but the crossbars are clearly visible from the rear of the vehicle. The installation video provided on the etrailer website was very useful. I was able to install by removing only the 2 rear exhaust mounts to gain enough clearance to work a socket easily.
I will be using this with a Kuat Sherpa bike rack to transport my bicycles

The hitch was for a 2007 Toyota Camry. The installation was easy after watching the videos on how to install it. It requires drilling a couple of holes in the tire compartment but following the instructions carefully and sealed everything well and everything is just fine. I recommend this product for anyone because the installation is really easy.

The hitch still hanging in there. I had no issues with it and I am very satisfied with this product. I am considering buying one more for my second car.
Rene A - 12/17/2020

2008 Toyota Camry

this hitch fit the 2008 toyota Camry perfect, and on a good note, for most who read directions,if you have the 4 cylinder engine with the tail pipe on the passenger side, you don't have to loosen the exhaust mounts. simply snake the hitch over the tail pipe first and then install the outside bolt to hold in place. undo the 2 plastic skirt retainers and lift the hitch in place on the drivers side and install the rest of the bolts and torque to specs. clean the crap from your trunk, remove spare tire and drill your two 1/2" holes from under the car for the main support brackets.add shims and torque. total time,20 minutes and 1 beer !!! awsome product, ya, the beer too !!!

Ford Edge

My hitch arrived quickly, but the box was a bit damaged. All the parts and instructions were securely taped to the hitch itself, and none of them were damaged. I chose this hitch and this company because of the very helpful video that accompanied the description of the hitch. The price was also right along with the free shipping. I also figured that I could put the hitch on myself. I have never used a torque wrench nor drilled through metal before, but that proved to be no problem at all. I was able to install the hitch by myself. I did it with the back wheels of the Camry on the edge of my garage. The approach to my garage slopes down, so there was enough room for me to get under the car to install the hitch. In order to hold the hitch in place to bolt it to the car, I used 2 jack stands. They held the hitch very well. I am so happy to have done this myself and was able to save lots of time and money.

Timely order delivery and the ease of i nstallation!

Easy installation I followed the video great instructions every thing went fine

Toyota Camry

I actually think it took me longer to find the jack point and save place to put a jack stand under my Camry than it took to install this. The instructions that come with the hitch are not the best. The video was very helpful. My only big concern is the factory installed angle bracket I had to remove from the Camry not being put back. I'm not sure what the purpose of the bracket was but I don't see Toyota just installing random brackets for no reason. A smaller concern is the bolt head in the spare tire section. I'm worried it will rub through the spare tire eventually. I would recommend manufacturer use a carriage bolt instead of a hex bolt but that is just my 2 cents. I will probably just glue a piece of carpet or something over it.

2007 Toyota Camry

Installation was fairly simple after watching the install videos. I have not used it yet, but have plans to use it soon.

2011 Toyota Camry

Trailer hitch was a perfect fit for the car. Instructions were easy to follow. All necessary parts were in the kit. Took a couple of hours to do the complete install. I was very happy with the website, the quick shipping, the hitch and the installation!!

I have had the hitch on the car for a year and it is working out great!

The hitch is exactly what I needed and expected. It was easy to install. I'll be using the hitch with a Thule bike carrier on my Camry. Fast shipping, great price, clear website.

  • Removal of Black Plastic Covering on Underside of 2011 Toyota Camry to Install Hitch
I believe you are speaking of the plastic cover shown in the video I have linked to. Before the hitch installation, the cover is removed and is not re installed after the hitch is in place. Once the hitch is installed, the plastic cover will no longer fit on the Camry. Because the hitch needs to be in direct metal to metal contact with the underside of the vehicle once it is installed, the hitch cannot be installed over the cover. The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36416 that you referenced wasn't exactly designed as a recovery point, BUT it has a trailer capacity of 3,500 lbs.
