Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.
Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.
In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Fully welded vehicle trailer hitch is strong and durable. Draw-Tite's Tested Tough guarantee ensures that this hitch exceeds industry standards. The combination of an e-coat base and a powder coat finish provides excellent rust protection.Hitch was very easy to install per included instructions. The hardest part was holding the hitch in place while I installed the bolts. I used blocks of wood to hold the hitch in place. Thanks again for a quality product with easy installation!
The first one I ordered had to be returned because it was damaged that was easy enough to do no issues so that was nice. When installing the bolts it would have been nice if the directions mentioned that you need to clean out the pre-drilled holes. Overtime dirt builds up and even with the appropriate torque still managed to completely strip and destroy the hole. So I got five out of six bolts holding it on unless it gets re-machined, that’s all I’ll ever get probably OK to carry bikes but will never support a trailer so that’s disappointing.
All the holes lined up on my 2003 Odyssey. The hard part was cleaning out the holes in the frame. The bolt size is M12 x 1.25 x 35. The important part is the M12x1.25 if you need to buy a test bolt to help clean out the holes. I ended up using a tap to very slowly and carefully clean out the holes while spraying in PB Blaster to help dissolve the dirt and rust. Cleaning out the holes took way longer than mounting the hitch. Patience is needed when cleaning out the holes so you don't create a larger problem. Spraying PB Blaster on a little piece of paper towel and screwing in the towel into the holes helps soak the threads without having it all drip out. 6 pieces of stacked 2x lumber per side was just the right height to hold the hitch in place while bolting it on. Make sure you center the hitch to the gas tank so you don't have one side touching the gas tank.
Bought a trailer hitch for our 2009 Honda Odyssey. The only hitch (get it) was that it was delayed in shipping by one day. The delay was by UPS, not etraler's fault. We live in a remote part of California, so that's not very unusual. The hardest part of the instillation was getting the rubber exhaust hanger free. A squirt of WD40 took care of that. It bolted up perfectly, as if it came from the Honda factory. I also bought the trailer wire kit. My biggest anxiety was getting the interior panels off without damaging the clips. They came off easily and the wire kit installed as easy as the hitch. Overall, it took about 2 hours from start to finish. That includes getting out the jack, stands, tools, being interrupted by my two year old a few times and cleanup. I chose etrailer because of the price for a Draw-Tite hitch. I had found cheaper hitches online, but didn't know the brands. I trust Draw-Tite. We are in the market for a vintage camping trailer and this is what we need to pull it. I told my wife that this was easiest part I've ever installed. It went as straight forward as the instructions showed. Thank you etrailer.
I cannot grade the towing capability yet, but this review is on installation. Less than one hour from start till I was putting tools away on the same day of arrival. One man job with the assistance of a rolling floor jack. Put rear up on ramps, hit holes with wd40, used one bolt to test run all threads, did not unhook tailpipe, simply insert the plate in, over, and let it rest on on exhaust (majority of weight still supported by jack). Start with left side, place 1 bolt loosely and then continue to switch sides with two at a time. Used torque wrench at 68 lbs to finish securing. Done. Looks great too! Up next: electrical and trans cooler. Thank you etrailer for the product and videos. Bought the hitch bc of such great reviews.
We owned the trailer hitch receiver for over a year and it is perfect for our 5-bikes carrier. It’s sturdy and it was easy to install on our van. I would definitely buy from e trailer again!
This can be a one man job if you have ramps and a short step stool. The thing that made the install take longer than 30 minutes was that the bolts on the passenger side would not line up if the drivers side bolts were on. I had to remove all the bolts on the driver side and set the hitch on a step stool 12 inches high so that the driver side was about 3 inches away from the mounting location. This was the only way i could get all three passenger side bolts to line up. Torqued to 69 pound-feet and i was done. Three stars for those three bolts.
Thanks for your comment and feedback. I see that our customer service team was in contact with you and were able to get this issues resolved.
--Great product so far, we have only used it with our bike rack but no complaints. etrailer is the best company to work with due to their amazing customer service!
This was my first time buying from eTrailer. eTrailer made selecting the proper hitch for my 2007 Honda Odyssey van easy. Also, this hitch readily attached to my van just as the installation video showed, and the quality of this hitch exceeded my expectations. Following the instructions, my teenage sons and me were able to quickly install the hitch in a reasonable amount of time. I trust that I can competently find the products with the features I want that properly fit my vehicle from eTraller. I look forward to future purchases to best use my new hitch. Thanks to your team at eTraler!
Easy install. I followed your instructions and helpful videos and was able to install it by myself using a jack on one end and securing a bolt on each side. After that it was easy. I was a bit surprised that it sits so low, less ground clearance now but each vehicle is limited on where a hitch can be added. Very easy and good quality and good price.
Very pleased with this hitch. It is very strong and lives up to its ratings for WD setups. Particularly pleased that it's ground clearance is the same as a lighter weight hitch I previously had on this 2015 Honda Odyssey. Many thanks to etrailer staff and their advice on what I needed!
I'm not sure how a hitch install could be any easier. It doesn't require two people because you can hang the passenger side of the hitch on the tailpipe while you start one of the bolts on the drivers side. By a mile, the hardest part is chasing the existing threads on the van. My van had traveled many dirt roads and the grime was thick on the underside. Still, this wasn't a hard job at all. I've included pics of the installed hitch and the 6 bolts (yes, only 6) that are required to do this job. We're going to the lake this weekend and we'll be pulling the popup behind us. We also bought a transmission cooler from this site as well and it's going to keep the transmission cool while we're hauling kids, bicycles, pets, and everything else down to the campsite.
Build quality is 5 stars. Definitely beefy enough to do the job and the hardware that came with the hitch was good enough quality. My only complaint is that this is not a perfect fit for a 2017 Honda Odyssey. I managed to get the bolts and spacers in 5 of the 6 mount points. The only one that didn't align was the farthest bolt on the passenger side. Not a big deal if you are mounting a bike rack, cargo carrier, or even a smaller utility trailer, but not if you are going to tow a trailer within 1000lbs of limit. Thats where the 3 star rating comes in. If that last hole lined up, would have given it 5 stars.
Works great ... has me wondering why it took so long to install one on my van. I use it primarily for a utility trailer (carting items to the landfill), as well as, for a bike carrier that holds 4 bicycles. I read somewhere that the suggested time to install was 2-hours and it was spot-on. After a quick inspection of the undercarriage ... I made a trip to the local "store" to get a 1/2" tube brush and 12 mm x 1.25 Tap set ... even though you might be able to save a buck or two ... SAVE yourself the trouble and hassle and just ORDER them both when you but this hitch. My son and i spent about 1 1/2 of those 2 hours cleaning out a number of years worth of road grit from the pre-installed holes on the vans frame designed to receive the bolts that came with the hitch kit. Once the holes were cleaned out and the muffler exhaust pipe freed ... it was about 20 minutes to install. Very straight forward. The holes in the hitch lined up with the pre-installed holes on the Vans frame without much maneuvering needed. While you can probable install this solo, the hitch is "kind of heavy" when you lying on the ground ... so a helper is ... helpful. The video was an excellent resource for the install ... GREAT JOB!!!!.
Thank you for your review. Please cover any bare metal with anti-corrosive paint and grease often.
--can be a one person job when following the video guide and do a little bit research, this hitch is solid and sturdy, have been loading a 75 pounds ebike for a few weeks without any problem. i built my own ramp using solid wood as many reviewers did.
Installation was so easy, once the rear of the car was lifted, it took about (15) fifteen minutes total time to install. It looks great too. etrailer is my go to company and they've always taken excellent care me.
The item arrived on the scheduled day just as estimated. Installation was exactly as shown in the etrailer review and installation video. Very helpful to see the process start to end. Passenger side threaded holes were difficult to get started due to rust. Tailpipe didn't have to be lowered on our van to install which was nice. It took 1.5 hours from started to cleanup. Using ramps that I use for oil changes helped make enough space to get underneath. 4 stars because the shipping box was trashed! There should be a better way to ensure the product doesn't make swiss cheese out of the box.
Really great product. Fits my 2005 Odyssey like a glove. This was my very first installation and I can confirm that it can in fact be installed by a single person, without raising the car and without removing the exhaust pipe. It did take a while (probably 1.5 hrs total) to complete as I needed to clean the threads in the weld nuts. Following recommendation from someone on this web-site (i.e. one of the reviewers), I had purchased an M12 x 1.25 tap and it made the work super easy (initially tried just WD40 with steel brush with basically zero effect as there was some serious rust build up in the threads). I've positioned the hitch on two jack stands (which supported it at JUST the right elevation) and started "wiggling" it towards the car frame. The driver's side was a piece of cake. It took a bit of effort to squeeze the passenger side of the hitch in between the car frame and the exhaust pipe. Once that was completed, the rest was relatively easy. I forgot to mention that I did try to remove the exhaust pipe, but didn't manage to do so. It would have made the things easier, but in the end I ended up "deflecting" the pipe suspended on the rubber piece by hand in order to be able to work with the bolts on the passenger side. All in all, very nice fit, super strong and sturdy hitch and overall - a really great experience (and tons of satisfaction =). Thanks etailer.
Purchased this hitch rather than others because I like that it picks up all six factory weld nuts making the bolt pattern long and strong, has massive bent up shear webs, uses welded lug design to retain tube, exceeds my vehicle rating, and is compatible with j-pins. I have a steep driveway so ground clearance was a concern. While several other hitch models/brands have slightly better clearance (better by 5”-.75” at receiver) they require more install time and vehicle mods, or don’t look as structurally redundant. My hitch arrived in a banged up box, which is understandable given the products’ size and weight. One spot of powder coat was chipped off. I spray painted the spot before install. I used ramps for more working space. My Ody has factory mud guards, so I had to remove the driver side guard before the fascia. Fascia protected driver side weld nuts from rust, but pax side rust was moderate. Did not drop the exhaust. Used 2x6 on a floor jack to lift and roll hitch into position. Rolled right over exhaust without problem. Kids served as outriggers on 2x6 to prevent tip over, which never was an issue. Exhaust is directly below aft two weld nuts but a socket wrench with long extension can be used to push the exhaust pipe genially out of the way, even when still connected to the rubber grommets. It took some a little shifting and trial and error to get all six bolts to line up and go in. I found it best to put aft bolts on each side in first, then the forward, then middle. Like a tire, I incrementally torqued in a star-like pattern. Total install time was 3hrs, but I wasn’t in a hurry. After installation I checked clearance at bottom of driveway and found it to be 1.5”. I’m looking into skid wheel options for when I’m loaded. All-in-all, I’m happy with my experience thus far.
Good hitch and pretty easy install. Took about 2hrs including wiring. I listened to other reviews and just bought a 12mx1.25 tap at Ace hardware. I used a ratchet and 9mm socket on the back of the tap. Used chain lube in the wholes and blew out with a air line when done. Propped one end on a jack stand and pushed the other end up to start bolt. The exhaust pipe is fairly simple to get out of the hangers if you use a pry bar like the install video show. Wiring was easy to install, only change I made was I drilled a small hole and fished the wires up under the bumper and thru. Eliminating the the need to let the wire hang out under the hatch. I cut the wires and respliced them together. Then siliconed around them to protect against water and rubbing against metal. They now tuck up behind the bumper cover with easy access. I'd say just about anyone can do this install with a couple tools and a little mechanical aptitude.
Wow.. what a quality built and easy to install. Did 95% installation myself with my wife putting in the last bolt. I had to push and maneuver the hitch a little for the bolt to in into place. Looks pretty awesome on my Odyssey.
Don't buy. Not suitable for a 2012 Honda Odyssey EX-L using a beautiful Kuat NV 4 bike rack. [The rack] will scratch in most driveways, don't even try rough or dirt roads. It's incredible how a crappy item can damage an expensive one. No one in etrailer thought about testing and disclosing what racks would be compatible or fit well with this model. I sent my order number and feedback to CS and also let Kuat know. I would appreciate that they mention when making their helpful videos.
Great hitch, great price, quick delivery. Would buy again without pause.
I was caught in a pinch. 5 days before our trip to the beach, found out my 2 nieces wanted to join us for the trip. More the merrier but the space would be tight. We were taking 5 golf club bags with us, which meant 7 people in the van along with 5 golf club bags which would take up the entire trunk space. Needed a cargo carrier ASAP for a much needed space. I had used the hitch from Etrailer before and knew the product was first class, but the time restraint made me hesitate ordering. I called Renee at etrailer and asked about the delivery time frame and she assured me that it usually took 3 days from MO to MD. So I placed my faith in her and placed the order. She made sure the delivery left the premises the same day, about an hour or so to be exact, and sent me a follow up email, with when it was shipped. Sure enough it came to md by Friday morning and I was able to install it that same morning. The attachment was a breeze as it took only 6 bolts to the existing frame to securely attach it. Great job etrailer. The vacation was saved.
The original receiver I ordered was not in stock. Customer service was very quick in contacting me and offering a substitute. It was an easy install. The videos posted by etrailer are very helpful! I would definitely buy from etrailer again.
