Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario. Technical Support

Fully welded vehicle trailer hitch is strong and durable. Draw-Tite's Tested Tough guarantee ensures that this hitch exceeds industry standards. The combination of an E-coat base and a powder coat finish provides excellent rust protection.

The hitch didn't exactly fit and took me a solid hour or more to get installed. It was difficult getting to the frame bolts because of the exhaust. Luckily i was at my dads garage and had access to some specific ratchet sizes and extensions. The driver side of the 2009 Outback Limited has a some sort of "steel reinforcement" piece ( see picture ) in place where the hitch will mount. This piece does not allow the hitch to install so I just removed it. Not a big deal but I didn't see in the instructions where it was mentioned that this might be an additional step.

Got this hitch for my 05 Outback XT. I got it mainly for my bike rack carrier, but also so I can tow a small utility trailer in the future. Hitch was very easy to install (did it by myself). Had to tap out 2 holes due to rust, but other than that, install was smooth. I really like how it looks on my car. Had a few paint chips (I’m assuming from shipping or storage) that I had to touchup after I put the hitch on but that was no big deal. Customer service was awesome, I give a shout-out to Rose G for being awesome and helping me out. I would Definitely recommend etrailer to anyone for there trailer and hitch needs.

2006 Subaru Outback Wagon

# 75560 Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch 2" Receiver, for 2006 Subaru Outback. Video for 2008 model has good tips. However, 2005 and 2006 are different. The same 4 capped factory nuts are there, but only the two rear-most are used. Further back, a bolt must be removed from the angle iron bracket holding the rear bumper on. One on each side. Toss the bolt and use longer bolt, supplied. Before removing the bumper bolt, use a crow bar to do some bending. Very close fit between rear-most hitch anchor points and bumper bracket. Mine didn't fit. Car was too wide and hitch too narrow. Barely. Vertical part of bumper bracket angle iron needs to be bent in. Leave bracket bolts in to insure the right part is stressed and bent. Two inches of the forward most end of the angle iron has a gap between horizontal and vertical. -They don't meet at the corner. Helps in bending the vertical. 2005 install video by etrailer was very helpful. Theirs fit right out of the box.

Installation was very straight-forward, and the fit was perfect. Removing one more exhaust hanger than they recommend will make the job go a lot easier

Best price found, arrived on time, packed well. Super easy install for hitch and wiring, fit perfect. Thank you for the flawless transition. If you need a hitch these are the people to call.

I use the hitch all the time, have a small and a large utility trailer haul tons of pellets every year. Very happy with my purchase,
Michael C - 03/30/2021

Went on easily with normal home tools. Did it by myself in about 20 minutes. Holding up nicely. I only use it for attaching bike racks so far- maybe 200 lbs total with rack and 4 bikes. No heavy trailer use.

2005 Subaru Outback Wagon

Over the past 3 months I have been fixing and replacing parts on my, new to me, 05 Subaru Outback. Sway bar links, lower control arm bushings, driveline, tires, struts... and a taller hitch. Of all the products I've ordered and replaced none have been as easy to install as this hitch. Etrailer provided a YouTube video all the hardware bolts, nuts, spacers needed to do the job. They contacted me via email after my order was placed after it was shipped and after it arrived. Very customer oriented and well designed product. From a retired engineer, this hitch is simple strong and well crafted. I couldn't be happier.

Great trailer hitch, getting ready to order one for my new Jetta sport wagon.
Tom A - 05/29/2018

The hitch arrived so fast! I unboxed it in the driveway. I had it installed within three hours of arrival. The fit was perfect. The installation simple and straight-forward. The quality was superb. All necessary items were included. I had reviewed the installation video so I didn't even reference the included instructions. Overall I am very impressed.

Its been solid and trustworthy.
Edwin L - 02/06/2021

It's been a year of usage and I have no issue. The wiring harness is also working just fine.
Great products and great customer services!
I would highly recommend anyone who is planning to install a hitch receiver.

2008 Subaru Outback Wagon

Installation was easy and intuitive. This fit my 2008 Subaru Outback wagon with zero problems. The hardest thing was removing the muffler hangers, but a little penetrating oil and channel locks made that much easier.

Very solid hitch. Easy to install (with some help from someone far handier than I am). Installation was simple, just 5 bolts. Hardest part was lowering the exhaust assembly. I would recommend this company to friends, George emailed me personally when the hitch was delivered.

1 yr. update - Tow hitch worked great. Just sold the car, now I need another tow hitch. Be contacting you guys soon.
John W - 07/31/2019

The hitch was aligned perfectly so once I dropped the mufflers it bolted right up with no problems. Looks solid!

I have had no problems except it is a little lower then the factory install would be so my bike rack has rubbed once or twice. But it is the only way to get a 2 receiver hitch on the car to use with the better racks etc...

Subaru Outback Wagon

2007 Subaru Outback WagonI included some shots of the hitch from the rear showing the fit and clearance, which is good. It is recessed about 2 inches back from the bumper
face. I would rather have it raised another inch closer to the bumper, but I am satisfied with it as is. It looks great and works great. Good experience all around. Good price, fast shipping, careful packaging, got the right items and the fit was good. I wrote for support and got a quick response that answered my questions exactly. These guys treated me right.

2006 Subaru Outback Wagon

Easy to install on my '06 Outback H6 3.0., happy to have a 2" hitch available. Just had to pop a few rubber exhaust hangers to get it in. Considerably cheaper than trailer rental place shipped. Bought it mostly to mount a bike rack, but it has been used to tow a 'lil trailer several times. End of the hitch is about 3.5" recessed behind the rear bumper line, so pretty low visibility when not in use if that matters to you. I would've designed it to mount on top of the rear tow loop as opposed to under it to get that extra 1-1.5" of ground clearance available to reduce my bike rack bottoming out on the steepest of driveways.

2009 Subaru Outback Wagon

Product fits great, the installation video online was incredibly helpful and I was able to install with an extra set of hands.

2005 Subaru Outback Wagon

I found the information on the etrailer site to be very informative and helpful. Found the install video to be "right on" except that I needed to drop both of my mufflers to get the hitch into position (2005 Subaru Outback LL Bean Edition 3.0). Other than that, the install went as described in the video, and very close to the estimated time. I've included a few pics. Very happy with the customer service from etrailer. Shipping was fast, communications regarding my order were excellent, and the product is a quality hitch exactly as described. Thank you!

Installation was as quick as described.

However, there was some amount of work to remove the mud guards in order to drop the muffler system. Removal took some work since 3 different fasteners were used.

I was working at home alone using a set of ramps to access the rear of the car, and it took some work to:
1. lift the hitch assembly into place. Hint, lift one side and loosely fit a bolt, then do the other side. and
2. lifting the muffler system into place required a set of straps attached to the roof rack and progressively raising each side.

Maybe a younger person would find it easier, but it is either a two person job, or it requires some thought and experiment.

2006 Subaru Outback Wagon

Received products in a couple days from ordering. Everything was packed well and intact. Installation was super easy after watching the video a couple times. It probably took me more time to figure out where the lift points were on my Subaru than to actually attach the hitch. The installation kit included all the bits I needed and contained clear information (especially in combination with the video). Will absolutely recommend the DrawTite hitch and eTrailer!

2006 Subaru Outback Wagon

Saved a ton of money this way over the local shop. I was initially nervous about installing this one since I had to lower the exhaust to do it (bought my vehicle used a few weeks ago and it has an aftermarket exhaust). Turns out those concerns were way overblown. Install tips (use a safety strap on the exhaust) were great - worked like a charm. Just took a little over an hour to install mostly by myself (wasn't going for speed records).

Very excited - seems like a well made solid hitch. Shipping was quick. I would definitely buy again - but I've now put a hitch from etrailer on all my vehicles in the last two weeks. So hopefully that won't be for a few years....

2015 Subaru Outback Wagon

The hitch and the custom fit wiring were easy to install on my 2006 Subaru Outback. It took me about an hour to install the hitch (by myself without lifting the vehicle). Lifting the vehicle or another person would have cut that time at least in half. And it only took about 15 minutes to connect the wiring. I would highly recommend anyone who purchases these items to watch the installation videos first as they were extremely helpful. Thank you

2006 Subaru Outback Wagon

Arrived fast! Installation took, maybe, 90 minutes by myself. Fit perfect. I highly recommend the installation videos on the website. They are very clear and easy to follow. Can't wait to use the receiver for our cargo rack for our upcoming trip.
Only issue I ran into was the plate for the rear bolt had to be shaved down a bit for a better fit. Very, very minor issue. I'll be ordering through again! Thanks guys!

2005 Subaru Outback Wagon

One year in and hitch is working perfectly.
Instructions were clear and concise.
Biggest headache was getting the old factory installed 1 1/4" hitch off my 2005 Subaru Outback - lots of penetration spray, and a fair amount of cussing.
After that, installation was a snap!

2006 Subaru Outback Wagon

This was a perfect fit for my 2006 Subaru Outback. The installation video was very helpful, and it wasn't difficult at all. The only thing I had an issue with was that in order to drop my exhaust far enough to get the hitch receiver in place, I had to remove my factory mud flaps. The exhaust hanger was catching on them, both sides.

2009 Subaru Outback Wagon

I only had one issue the most rear plastic cap worked & I had to remove & replace an existing bolt in the frame mount to align the hitch brackets. It worked well. My wife is very happy she can now use her bike rack on the new hitch.

2005 Subaru Outback Wagon

Well, I didn’t install the product, my children’s father did. He does professional towing. He recommended to me to get some lights and I have yet to order them. I had some other issues I needed to resolve with my really old and high mileage 2005 Subaru Outback, so I haven’t tested the product yet as of this writing. I also need to order the actual hitch. I hope the issues I had are resolved as I’m taking it for re-inspection then I’ll be ordering the hitch and lights so I can actually test it. Looks good as of right now. I don’t know what else to say. He didn’t have issues with installation.

  • Hitch Recommendation for a 2009 Subaru Legacy Sedan to Carry a Scooter Carrier
The Draw-Tite Hitch part # 75560 that you referenced is the correct hitch for your 2009 Subaru Legacy Sedan. This hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 400 lbs, so that means that if the weight of your 290 lb scooter and carrier together weighs less than 400 lbs this hitch should work well for you. Basically if your carrier weighs less than 110 lbs (which it should) you would be fine. However, you need to also check the owners manual of your vehicle and determine what Subaru lists as the...

When we installed the Draw-Tite Hitch part # 75560 on a 2008 Subaru Outback like yours we found that the top of the hitch measured 13-1/2 inches from the ground. In most circumstances this wouldn't be an issue. We have a ton of reviews for this hitch from our customers and none of them reported any dragging. Actually one customer said that this hitch won't be the lowest point on the car, so technically it wouldn't reduce ground clearance. Check out the install video for more install info.

  • Are Torque Specs for Hitch Installs Important to Follow
I can only safely recommend you torque the install bolts of the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75560 to the figures that are listed in the install instructions, but it would be safer to have the bolts tighter than spec as opposed to not as tight. If there is anyway you can verify that you have the correct torque on the hardware by maybe finding a better torque wrench that would be your safest and best option. The Draw-Tite Hitch Class III Trailer Hitch part # 75560, is custom fit to some model years of the Subaru Legacy and Outback, and will attach to four pre-drilled holes with existing weld nuts on the vehicle frame.
