Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

The draw-tite Max Frame Trailer Hitch. Is pretty straight forward. I put it on the same day as the delivery. It took me about 3.5 hours to install. It's pretty easy to do. I used a jack stand and a car jack. I rate the installation of this as 5 out of 10.

Came pretty fast and was more sturdy and well built than I expected. Installed it myself in the driveway with no lift. Was a touch difficult mainly because of the limited space under the van but still doable and instructions were easy to follow. I also watched the [online] from etrailer on how to install which helped me understand the fish wire technique. Otherwise, I would have taken 3 times as long. One tip is to have the right size sockets, a torque wrench, and be gentle on the plastic nut/washer things that attach the felt to the underside. I stripped one plastic one and had the wrong size socket for the big nuts.

Install videos extremely helpful. Had to run out to get a torque wrench with higher foot/lbs. rating than the one I had. Was able to put it on in my driveway with car ramps. I cut the fabric material tighter than instructions say, but I don’t need lights.

I was very impressed with the quality and ease of installation. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking to buy a tow hitch. The etrailer videos were awesome and was a big reason for my choosing them.

Perfect fit. It took me a little longer to install than expected but the hitch fit perfectly. I really like the way it tucks up close and is vey hidden. The only part visible is the end of the hitch. The instructions were clearly written and easy to follow. I trimmed the under-car cover much closer than the instructions said to so it makes a much closer fit to the hitch.

- 76046
by:

Hitch fits great but was a little trickier to install than expected: 1) you have to fish the bolts in the EXACT order shown on the video. Rear most first, then the one right next to it, then finally the forward one. If you don’t, you’ll spend an hour fishing them back and starting all over. Wish the video and/or the written instructions had highlighted this. 2) the heat shield and belly pan cut outs seemed too big so we installed the hitch loose and then trimmed the pieces to fit. Smaller cut out dimensions in the instructions would have been appreciated.

We just installed the trailer hitch ourselves. We aren't that experienced, and were able to do it in a few hours. Just attached a bike rack to it and traveled 8+ hours for vacation - no issues! We'll be looking to hitch a camper in the future.

Product is very well made, and quite easy to install. However, it might be mentioned that on the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, there are under body panels that need to be removed. The rear panel also needs to be modified some to replace it after hitch installation. This part of the installation requires as much time as installing the hitch. I watched videos on installing the hitch, and none mentioned this obstacle. However, overall I am very pleased with this purchase.

The video available from eTrailer was very helpful in understanding how to install the hitch on my 2017 Pacifica. While the instruction document included information on removing & cutting the underbody panel, there was no mention of it in the video. Using a floor jack, and a little help from a second person, I installed the hitch on my vehicle in my garage in around 3 hours. After removing the underbody panel, and working with the hitch, I found that I didn't have to cut the heat shield as much as identified in the instruction (and referred to in the video), and I significantly reduced the amount of the underbody panel that I cut out (maybe just a third of what the instructions indicate) which meant I only cut out one of the fasteners in the underbody. In case this is helpful for anyone else, I've included pictures of the changes I made).

I'm 61 years old and was able to install this by myself on a 2017 Pacifica with the help of a couple of ramps. Took me around 4 hours. As others have mentioned, you don't have to cut as much off of the heat shield or the panel as specified in the instructions. If you're by yourself, it really helps to support one side of the hitch up with a jack, then lift the other side up and hand tighten on a nut a bit to support the weight. Then do a nut on the other side. After that you can install the remaining nuts on the bolts with the washers.

Let me begin by saying I'm cheap. I've installed hitches from etrailer before; they're reasonably priced, promptly shipped, and well supported, both by customer service and their generally excellent videos. So when Chrysler priced their hitch for this car at about $1k, and etrailer had a class III hitch for about $120, I eshewed FCA's hitch. To mixed results. First, delivery from etrailer was super quick, as usual. Fit and finish on the hitch were perfect. Guided by the two videos on the etrailer site - one for this hitch as well as the one for the similar draw-tite - the installation went more easily than expected. Because the Limited version of the Pacifica has a finishing panel from the rear axle to the rear bumper which had to be trimmed, the draw-tite video provided better guidance for this version. However, as several have already mentioned, I found that considerably less of that under panel had to be removed to make room for the Curt hitch. And along the same lines, considerably less of the heat shield was removed - I've included a pic of what I removed for this installation. I don't tow; I like to take a bike carrier as well as a cargo carrier on occasion, so I can't comment on how the car handles a towing load. Others have commented that it does well. The installed Curt hitch is almost invisible from most angles; all that can be seen is the receiver itself. There is some loss of rear clearance - I broke my receiver cover on the first driveway I encountered. The only significant (really?) problem is that my rear hatch used to have foot control - kick under the tailgate and it would open. Not imperative, obviously, but a nice feature. The hitch made that foot control inoperative. On the factory installed hitch, FCA changes the single foot sensor for two sensors mounted lower and to either side of the receiver. Some other posts indicate that the foot sensor still operates with the aftermarket hitch installed; this has not been my experience, and is my major qualm with this install. I LOVED saving over $800 by using this hitch; it installed easily, functions well, and was inexpensive. But if I had it to do over again, I'd order the OEM hitch.

Overall good product, instructions and video were helpful. Hitch lined up perfectly. Some suggestions for improvements to the instructions and video: 1. When blind-fishing the bolts/blocks I got seriously stuck once because there is a divider wall in the frame that you need to go towards the outside of the vehicle instead of towards the inside. The fish wire will go on either side but the bolt got stuck because the inside is narrower. Lost an hour painstakingly fishing the bolt backwards so it wouldn't get lost forever in the frame. 2. The heat shield doesn't need to be trimmed as far as instructed. It can be trimmed on a matching angle to the hitch frame and tucked behind it for more coverage. 3. The underbody shield doesn't need to be trimmed as far as instructed. I was able to get it completely re-installed with all original screws with only making 2 small cutouts for the parts of the hitch that stick out below the bar.

Very happy with the fit and quality of this hitch. I do have a few comments on installation that may be helpful to others. I'm a 71 year old weakling so this can be done by less than Mr. Universe even though this thing weighs a ton. I did this on the ground using nothing but ramps to raise the van. I did however jack the van onto the ramps in two stages because I was afraid of overshooting the ramps of I tried to drive on. I jacked one side up 3.5" using the authorized jack points and put a block under the tire, then the other side 7" and slid the ramp under, then back to the first side for the final 3.5" to get that ramp under. This hitch is far too heavy for a guy like me to raise in place by hand and fiddle with the nuts at the same time. My suggestion is that you use a floor jack to lift it into place. There is a trick to this. I put a scrap of lumber into the receiver with a C-clamp to fine tuning the balance. Otherwise the brackets just flop down and it falls off the jack (see the photo). Also note that you have to tuck the right side bracket over the muffler before you can use this jack trick. From there is was easy with my wife operating the jack as I lined the bolts up. In one video they tell you this but in the directions they don't: There is a 10mm stud you should remove from the left side frame. You can install the hitch with it there but you can't get it center as well as it should be left to right. One more thing I noticed is that I could have trimmed the heat shield up to 4" less than the 11" the instruction say and gotten better protection for the seat well. This will work only if you reinstall the shield after the hitch is installed as the instructions say (not as the videos show). In general this sees very strong--plenty sturdy for the 1500lb the LX is rated to tow.

Pretty easy to install. I was able to put it on my 2021 Pacifica without a lift or jackstands. You can definitely do this job without a lift on any vehicle with 5" of ground clearance or more. The video installation guide is incredibly helpful. etrailer support is the absolute best out there. The receiver itself is pretty heavy and I have no worries towing with it.

Have had this hitch installed for a year and it has been a great addition to our 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. I like this hitch because it is pretty unnoticeable when nothing is inserted into the hitch. Instructions were great although I didn't trim away as much of the underside boards as the instructions said. I thought that might help deaden more of the road noise and make a cleaner looking installation. There was nothing wrong with the installation instructions though - they were thorough and clearly understandable. The hitch receiver is the proper distance below the bumper, I think. I have only drug it on curbs once or twice in the past year I believe.

Very solid construction especially on the weld points. The hitch barely noticeable from the back end of the vehicle which makes it seem like its not there (nice). Good anchor points for chains and I love the wire harness mount in case I decide to wire through there. Installation was sort of a pain because the video doesn't go over removal of the undercarriage protector and cutting that. However, the instructions did a good job of giving you cutting dimensions. I spent 1.5 hours doing this alone due to the cutting involved. If you are installing alone, use some jack stands to hold up hitch while you get it onto your bolts. A battery powered impact driver or ratchet go a long way. finger tighten first then hit it with the power tool.

Hitch looks good on car not a lot hanging down, just sq. tube. As for instructions I would add removal of Left rear wheel to get at 3 bolts holding on shield makes it easier.

Hitch fits and works great. However it is not necessary to remove as much from the heat shield and fabric belly pan as the instructions state. It took a little over 3 hours to complete the install and I was using an impact driver. Two people could probably do the job in an hour.

Went in well.. Im not sure why they want to trim the heat shield so short.. i managed to trim it in a way that i can take out shield with hitch one.. Which i dont see when i will ever need to take it off anyways..lol..you do need 2 people..I had a transmission jack that helped me . Overall looks great.thanks.heres. picture with hitch and shueld installed.. You do have to trim right in the bottom where it curbs onto the hitch arm.. but not much

Mostly the hitch is positive. The spacing between the end mounting brackets is to narrow. There is extra round tube on left side to allow for a different position before welding. A quart inch may be enough to get a better fit. I made cuts to accommodate the projections. The large cut out suggested seemed to course. All factory hardware was retained. The heat shield needed a small area of the rear corner to be trimmed.

- 76046
by:

I found the installation instructions complete and simple to understand and follow. The kit had all the parts to do the job. I am quite happy with the product and the end result. I would suggest getting a hold of a pair of car ramps to make the job easier. All-in-all it was a doable job for a week-end warrior mechanic.

Easy job and only needs 2 people when mounting receiver to frame. Took hour and a half for me. First install ever!

Hitch is just right. Fits the vehicle well and does not stick way out from under the vehicle. Installation was a little harder than the video shows. Well satisfied with the hitch.
